Most of my time in VC10s was spent sitting facing aft including a flapless landing into Akrotiri just after the invasion, which was a bit sporty and very noisy. I did get a ride in the RAE VC10 which was spent stooging around the North Sea in very nose high attitudes with the bit that kept it from falling off the thrust switched off or turned down or some such.

Well we needed something that would fit on the Carrriers and be capable of inflight refuelling the F35, as we had some surplus Herc's lying about a plan was hatched, true it needs some final tweaking, but the MOD are pleased as it is cheap.

These are the export model designed to equip the Afghan airforce when we leave, serious consideration went into it as we didn’t want them dropping out of the skies like flies, nor Terry Taliban getting their hands on something that would actually fly.
Another thing we have done on them is treat them very well with corrosion preventative, that way we should be able to recover them from the Afghanistani scrapyard in about 20 years time.
