Not wishing to inadvertently stall this thread,and as it now transpires that there is some doubt over the exact name/location of the Airpark, I shall withdraw this challenge and declare;
"Open House".

sabredog
9th Aug 2011, 20:24
Thank you for your interest,Spook.
Originally, it was captioned as an Airpark near San Luis Obispo,California. On further investigation to provide clues ,I could not find it under that designation, only the Regional airport. Rather than cause a further delay and possible controversy, I thought the best course of action would be to declare it void and start again. Still reseaching it though!

RegDep
17th Aug 2011, 20:19
Are these guys doing break-dancing to the audience :ooh:?

It's the Whitfield Aerodrome, Dover.

And the first event you are talking about is the first flight from England to Germany, which took off from Whitfield on 18th April 1913. Flown by Gustav Hamel with a passanger in an 80hp Bleriot monoplane, he did the 245 mile journey non stop, in 258 minutes, through rain and hail storms, landing in Cologne.

Or, maybe: Harriet Quimby, the first woman to fly the Channel (1912), using Gustav Hamel's biplane, see above.

Duckbutt

Hatfield is correct Jindabyne - 'Cats-eyes' Cunningham was a test pilot here.
Also, my grandad did the electrics on Mossie engines here during WWII, my mum was a Tech Records clerk on the Comet, my dad landed a Tiger Moth here and I flew an F3 out of here in 1993 just before it closed. How's that for a family connection?

Feel free to take over, or wait till somebody guesses the other one. Sorry all for the confusion!

http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g472/RegDep/Bildschirmfoto2011-08-26um174021.png

Don't forget to replace the previous file in Photobucket (otherwise you may get funny results). If you use something else, I am sure they have the same feature.

AND, please keep one challenge in force at the time. :ok: One challenge -> Correct answer -> challenge poster validates -> winner posts a new or declares Open House, which is the free-for-all to post.

AND don't worry, everybody is confused once in a while. Just the new ones are forgiven a bit easier :}.

I understand the frustration, Pop, but why is it not possible for the site owner to restrict photo size? Or is it an option not available?

Can such a site as PPRuNe not persuade Jelsoft to introduce such a site-owner option?

evansb and sabredog,

I'm fascinated by this 'aérodrome' in my own backyard and would like to track it down.

Do either of you have any more details? Tong/Tonkin/Tonking was the northernmost province in French Indochina which included the Red River delta and present day Hanoi (which used to be called Ton Kin or more correctly Đông Kinh). However, there are no hills anywhere near Hanoi which is on the Red River plain, so this photo must be somewhere else.

It does now but it was 1024 x ?.

Wouldn't that be good! But no, the size is controlled by 'you.' It would be great in fact. There is a size controller that someone told me about but I didn't get a chance to try it out.

It has always been a problem and you would not believe some of the sizes that are posted. One I recall was TWO pages wide and impossible to see and read without a full scroll right.

From sabredog's responses, can one assume it's in the States (of the United American type)?

It does look rather flat & waterlogged (mind you, that can apply to the Iowa flatlands occasionally!)

I'm tempted to say it's not in North America at all.
