In that case - Lien Khuong, Vietnam?

India Four Two
15th Nov 2011, 15:14
Jindabyne,
I'm impressed, how did you figure it out so quickly?

Lien Khuong International Airport, VVDL, DLI. The airport that serves Da Lat, 40km up the road in the mountains.

I was there two weekends ago for the first time in 14 years and was shocked. Previously it was a day-VFR-only airport with a 1950s terminal and turboprop service and now it has this amazing terminal and tower, and jet service.

You have control.

jindabyne
15th Nov 2011, 16:48
India,

Your Location (VTTS) told me that you're in Vietnam; the lady in the first piccie looked as though she might be from that neck of the world; and you told us it was a new tower and terminal. So a Google search of new airports in Vietnam, with a yellow terminal roof - and Bob's etc etc.

It really cuts you up when you fall off a bike wearing shorts though... :ouch::ouch: The airport has an average of one plane every two weeks....we have "sailboat" races with sheets and office chairs on wheels down the runway occasionally to break the boredom in between training sessions....here is that lovely airport:

Well according to the source of the photograph it is reported to be Bedford Army Air Base 1946. However looking at a photograph taken in 1984 of Hanscom AFB which it became there seems little resemblance in the layout of runways. It looks as though my source has given it the wrong identification. Moral of the story "Double check one's source"

nvubu
28th Dec 2011, 08:10

Plough Lane isn't an aerodrome, but a road, so if this is Plough Lane, the aerodromes would be...

My next clue would be:

TheiC

so if this is Plough Lane, the aerodromes would be...

Waddon and Beddington, which became Croydon..?

nvubu
28th Dec 2011, 09:31
Correct - in the 2nd picture, Waddon is this side of the road and Beddington is on the far side with New Barn Farm in the middle.

TheiC has control.

Beddington opened in 1915, Waddon in January 1918, with Croydon coming into existance in 29 March 1920. Plough Lane, New Barn Farm and the hangers and offices in the centre were only demolished in 1928
