Douglas Mill’s house is one of 15 houses at Hobsonville Airbase classified as a heritage building. These built heritage landmarks are being retained during the transformation of the former RNZAF base into a new housing estate. One of the reasons the house is being preserved is due the significance of Douglas Mill; one of New Zealand’s pioneer aviators.

Mill was one of the first fliers to see the potential for commercial aviation in New Zealand. In 1927 he established the Air Survey and Transport Company at Hobsonville. One of its specialities was aerial surveying and photography, but the company was also the New Zealand agent for Britain’s De Havilland Aircraft Company. As De Havilland’s agent the company imported and assembled De Havilland Moths and Tiger Moths, which Mill then sold to aero clubs throughout New Zealand.

Pago Pago (NSTU) in American Samoa. A place where waves sometimes crash over the runway.

Open house.

JENKINS
11th Sep 2019, 08:52
That's the place. Coward set off by sea to spend time writing there, though I believe that he was distracted during the journey and failed to reach Pago Pago. Boyce, in 1991, while expressing the horror of his nation at defeat by Western Samoa, posited that Wales was lucky that only Western rather than the whole of Samoa was involved. Pago Pago is in the American part of Samoa, formerly ruled by the US Navy, and has only recently taken up rugby.

dook has found it as it is the Aerodromo de Obidos - the picture from the town wall of Obidos should have given it away.

Was driving back to our accommodation when I saw this.

I hate to argue but the roadsign and the sign on the hangar clearly says 'Lagoa' which is the Portuguiese for 'Lagos', plus the sign on the hangar says 'Escola de pilots ULM' which means microlights.

The aerodrome is shown as " Aerodromo de Obidos" on the web,

The sign & hangar state "Aeroclube Lagoa de Obidos",

If you go north of the airfield there is a the Lagoa de Obidos or Obidos Lagoon (where we spend some time paddle boarding), so the Lagoa in this case translates as Lagoon or Lake, and the sign is saying "Aeroclub of Obidos Lagoon".

There's also a Lagos in Portugal in the Algarve, which is where I thought you meant when you stated "Lagos Microlight Airfield" - especially as there is a microlight airfield just outside Lagos in Portugal (37°07'17.94" N 8°40'38.86" W) although it looks nothing like my images.

For the record. :)

Lagos Lagoon is a lagoon sharing its name with the city of Lagos, Nigeria, the largest city in Africa, which lies on its south-western side. The name is Portuguese, and means 'lakes' in the Portuguese language so 'Lagos Lagoon' is an example of a tautological place name.

I can see where I made my mistake. Gerry Breen's airfield has been extensively developed since I last looked at it and as you say is nothing like the airfield pictured.

Both wrong. Good weekend for Dutch teams from the sport this weekend in different countries. This airfield seems to be the international airport for a country not its own, and lies in a region keen to cut ties to the country which is its own.

The hint that the airport serves 'a country that is not its own' and its location in a country that some in the region want to break away from, would seem to point to an airfield in Catalonia that serves as the airport for Andorra? To be accurate it's the 'new' Tingwall airport which replaced the old grass strip in, I think, the '80s.
I flew into the old strip in Sep 1972 courtesy of Loganair; a patch of stinging nettles marked the northern end of the strip and there was a substantial stone barn just off centreline at the southern end but I don't know exactly where it was! There was a dry stone wall next to the barn which extended across the centreline; a visiting Aztec tried to demolish this while landing during my 'tour of duty' at Sumburgh.

For Sycamore, Lossie - Brawdy at high level tight and unlikely, not much Rebecca Eureka coverage left in 1981. Low level much more fun. Distant memory of Rebecca Eureka at Twenthe earlier that year on another jolly, but not convinced. On one trip I went Leuchars - Coningsby, doing a favour for the future Scottish Air Marshal.

Bear,

It is indeed a TAN aeroplane but it's not Miami.

Let’s not go for the most obvious:
Belize City Philip S.W Goldson International airport

Dook has control
The pilot helicopter station at the Pistoolhaven Europoort Rotterdam.
Don’t want to be pedantic but Maasvlakte starts on the other side of that Harbour.
That is about a 15 minutes drive.
This area is called Europoort

It seems GE has the wrong place marked.

Not this one though.

You're right, but it is in Europe.
