Evening Ken. :)

No guesses?Plenty of guesses mate, but none will be close. My problem I think is my brain hasn't moved on much from the mid-80s regards light aircraft. I see your image and still think in terms of Beech or Piper. In fact my first thought was the Aerotec 122, which it isn't.

Sorry mate, need a lot more clues. :(

Well, in the meantime, just for a laugh...my youngest son recently went to see Battleship...
Battleship (2012) - IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1440129/)

Since then, much to my disgust (:(:)), he now builds warship models. The latest Revell kit he built has this illustration in the instructions..

SincoTC
9th Jul 2012, 17:15
Evening LM :),

Been an awful quiet day today, no sign of Martin or Ken, I've seen Mel and Bri's lights on when I looked in at breaks and of course Graeme posted at lunchtime, but I've had too much on today to put anything up before that.

Looks like a hit TC- at least that's what I would have said

Thanks for the vote of confidence! Obviously, we're not going to get any judgement from Graeme for several hours yet, but I'm sure he'd be happy for the thread to move on even if it turns out to be wrong! After all, he didn't throw his toys out of the pram over the cocpit cock-up the other day!!

I'm not going to post anything right now, as I'm off home shortly and when I tried to look in when I got up this morning, my home Internet was down again after more overnight rain!! Apparently, there's an underground culvert near the local exchange that keeps flooding and shorting everything out. It's only the fourth time they've "fixed" it and the last time it was off for several days, so I don't know if it'll be back up yet, but I'll check in again later if it is! So if you want to take the OH, please feel free, I expect Canada/USA and Oz will be back on later and Ken too I hope

9th Jul 2012, 17:19

Well, apart from putting one up under "Usual Rules", with a caveat that it expires to OH if it's not gone by noon Zulu tomorrow, I guess you'll have to sit it out for a while and hope someone else turns up, or my connection is working when I get home, which won't be for about ninety mins as I've got to go somewhere on the way!

Catchya later I hope :ok:

Somebody identified the silhouette as an SAI KZ IIT. Bang on. This is actually the naval version flying out of Avedøre in the South Sea Islands of Denmark.

As you will know, a posting to Avedøre was dreaded not only because of the ferocity of the native women, but also because it could often be months, sometimes years, twixt delivery of supplies. The Avedøre aircraft were therefore fitted with trolling gear so the crews could "live off the land" by catching fish by "trolling" small goats and other such animal bait at the end of a stout flaxen line. That is what the sticky-down "fing" aft of the stubs is for. It is very simply just a short, stout trolling rod. The line, by the way, was obtained locally, the production of such cordage on the Danish equivalent of the Ghandian charkha being a mainstay of the local economy.

However, it was found by the more intrepid of the early crews, because the Avedøre "drome" was desperately short, that this gear could also serve effectively as a tail hook, a peasant's fence at the leeward end of the field serving as the arrester wire. Close inspection of the oleo-legs on the KZII, built to take the "smack-down" when the trolling gear was deployed as tail hook, will reveal that that's where Short's got the inspiration for the u/c on the Seamew.

For the most part, however, the sticky-down gizmo was used for handling the "aerial" which lived on a reel - a trolling reel, actually - in the forrard cockpit, and was let out thro' the hollow "fing" when it was desired to listen to the rather splendid afternoon concerts of classical music transmitted live each day from the posh Restaurant "Vivex" hard by Raadhuspladsen - Copenhagen's central City Hall Square.

I swear it's all true.

I've actually got a "repliplane" KZIIT a-building here on the shores of the Pacific. 1 1/2" to the foot. Now, fonly I can find an eight inch tall lady to go flying with me, I'll be a happy man :p

Thanx for the welcome. Just doing a low pass really. I was responding to Skytrain's posting in #9837 of the silhuette of the KZII, and to Lightning Mate's request in #9841 for illumination.

I made reference to the Short Seamew as being graced with some of the features of the KZII. Similarly, if you google the KZII, you will find a great number of pics that show conclusively that the DH Chipmunk also stands accused of plagiarism.

All ancient history now, but the ubiquitous Cessna 150 just cannot turn a lad's crank in the way these aircraft could. No wonder most lads today would rather spend their time in front of a 'puter!

Noyades posting just above looks a smidge like a Stringbag sans armament?

Ridge,
Just to let you know I am intimately familiar with the plane in your picture. I just finished working on a project were I designed a new plane based on the hull of the one in your picture. In fact we used that plane and pulled a mold directly from the hull. I designed a new fuselage, boom and tail to fit another wing the company already had. The plane in your picture is in fact a Petrel. It is stationed at a small airfield in Rayong Thailand. I think your picture is a few years old. Or it could be very recent after we finished with it. I have alot of pics for it but cannot figure out how to put one in this message. sorry.

Still, not as bad as a documentary DVD I recently watched, titled "The Fight for the Sky - The Battle of Britain", featuring "rare archive footage", which included the usual Spitfire/Hurricane/Messerschmitt/Heinkel characters, but then P-47s, Fw-190s, B-17s and even Zeros and Corsairs were fighting over the English Channel.

Evening Graeme - wings/tail/booms from a Cessna 337. Looks like a jet conversion? Presume those are wing tanks at the point where the booms meet the wing?

Appears to have the extended nose very much like the Spectrum and the CIRPAS Pelican, so I'm wondering if there was a jet version of one of those - or at least a proposed one.

G'day Ken.

The Pelican you mentioned above is closer in configuration - but no jet engines involved. This is a mock-up, the "intake" differs on the completed aircraft illustrated on the net.

Tried to GIMP a front view, badly, but you can have it all the same. :)

Off tomorrow for a five day break - see you all on Sunday.

Employment ends next Tuesday midnight, so will have lots of time to play and sleeve. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/smile.gifhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/smile.gif

I feel a 2012 Christmas special coming on - a hybrid aeroplane comprising parts of several - the winner is the first to get all the separate parts. Does this appeal to you?

Anyone need the services of a graphics illustrator/technical author?

Sleek looking American homebuilt....? Sleek, definitely, but not American. European design.
Crazy thought, French turboprop from the sixties? Something about an Antelope? Like your style, but this is not French, not a turboprop and is from the 2000's:)

Incidentally built as both fixed or retractable u/c.

Impressive opening ceremony! :ok: But can you explain that "House" scene to me? Was it from a popular TV show over there?

Got your e-mail Ken and will reply. Cheers.

That part of the bookshelf is empty So you've got rid of your World Leisure Aviation Directories then? :)
I think the House scene was a mix between popular music, trends and TV - there again....! In truth not really sure myself!

Not many twelve-ship formations on goggle either :ugh:

Piston engines? US Navy? Trainers? WWII?
