I'll certainly second it and invite Ken to take the thread.

I'll certainly second it and invite Ken to take the thread. Regardless of whether it is the Ar-2 (I still think it is), the other 2 candidates (the SB-2 and ANT-40) have both been put forward and I am very sure it is one of these, so I am happy to move forward. No doubt Karl will confirm which of us was corrrect when he is up and about.

So, I'll accept the nomination (sound's like I'm at an awards ceremony:)) from Trevor and David.....Stand-by gents

The little "nick" in the canopy is where it was slid slightly back in the photo I used.

Lightning Mate
17th Nov 2011, 11:24
Methinks it has been parked with the nosewheel fairly well turned to the right.

Therefore the rudder would also be and so the fin/rudder silhouette profile may not reflect the true shape.

skytrain10
17th Nov 2011, 11:47
Therefore the rudder would also be and so the fin/rudder silhouette profile may not reflect the true shape. Yes, there is a deflection but not a large one. I don't think it distracts too much from the tail profile.

One more question - is it available with fixed gear as well?

Ridge Runner
17th Nov 2011, 12:31
French, Ken?

skytrain10
17th Nov 2011, 12:35
One more question - is it available with fixed gear as well? No, retractable only, although it's not strictly available at all as I believe only the 1 built.

French, Ken? Not French Martin. Wrong side of the pond:)

North American prototype LSA?

skytrain10
17th Nov 2011, 16:08
North American prototype LSA? North American (USA to be specific) and prototype yes, but I am not sure that it would qualify as a LSA. The FAA classifies this aircraft as "experimental". 1990's design.

Afternoon Martin...American (US)?

Ridge Runner
18th Nov 2011, 12:16
Hi mate! No, not US.

Edit: probably I should qualify that. It is, as far as I can see, the only one built. However, although not built in the US it was designed there. It was homebuilt in the other country.

Is this available today in kit form or was it literally a one-off?

Ridge Runner
18th Nov 2011, 12:48

Just grabbing a coffee but can't stop right now, a question for when Martin gets back, it might be a help, but more likely a bum-steer :)!

You were in India not so long ago and visited the Indian Air Force Museum at Palam, is there any point in digging there, or maybe just India??

Ridge Runner

Good afternoon RR, now that it has been narrowed down considerably, New Zealand perhaps? The Lincoln Sports ZK-BMV?

Edit; If it turns out to be correct, open house please. Thanks!

skytrain10
18th Nov 2011, 15:16
Well I've looked long and hard at New Zealand, found a couple of possibles, but neither match the challenge. The tail is however very similar to one of them...shame the rest of the aircraft isn't!

Edit....Well I'm sure Karl has it....and the Lincoln Sports was one of the 2 aircraft I had found an hour ago. It seems they produced 2 completely different planes bearing the same name!!! I looked at ZK-ADV: North Tui Sports Replica, ZK-ADV, Museum of Transport and Technology (http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1228017). Clearly not a very good replica!!! The original ZK-ADV crashed, so looks like there were 2 built.

2 clues up on "Cryptic". :)

Ridge Runner

skytrain10
18th Nov 2011, 17:34
With some confusion in my mind regarding the last challenge I decided to do some digging. In fact the aircraft is a Radford Lincoln Sport, which actually looked like this in its original form:
http://i551.photobucket.com/albums/ii457/kendyer/8287290a.jpg
The Lincoln Sport itself is a US aircraft, which was built in the US and some still survive today. I am guessing the above machine was an adaption from the original, albeit a fairly major one.

Evening Ken,

Dog sitting again, so first look-in of the day :)

That tail has a Brochet look about it! I see that Maurice B constructed a similar looking aircraft under the confusing name of Avia 50, but the photo in AviaFrance looks to have a more rounded forward fuselage than indicated on the drawing and slightly different U/C struts, but I'm always a little wary of deviations from the drawings occuring during the actual construction :ooh:!!

Any connection, if not I'll ask is it Belgian?

skytrain10
1st Dec 2011, 16:40
Hi Trevor

SincoTC
1st Dec 2011, 16:59
Thanks Ken,

I was just coming back to say that closer inspection of the photo and the drawing make me think that the drawing shows a single seater, but the photo looks like "rounded side cheeks" have been added for side-by side seats and the track of the U/C widened accordingly.

I'm just off walkies at the moment and I'm not sure if I will have connection at the house-sit location as they've changed all their computers to Mac and I'm not sure about the wireless router 'til I get there; so I'll call an Open House at the moment as there are others on line at the moment and play it by ear later, so please don't wait in case I can't get back online 'til tomorrow.
