Morning Ken,

I believe the EEL ULF-2 fits the bill ??

Edit to say I dismissed it last night 'coz it said the prototype first flew in 1993 but this morning I found it by a different route, looked again at wiki and saw that I'd missed where it said "The first ULF 2 completed by a customer was flown in 1999" :O

SincoTC

Quite possibly :ok:

It did start out as a tandem trainer, but this one has another purpose :)

I feel for you re "Boost" (I have got to explain relative and absolute coordinate measurement systems to our guests). It'll be nice when you stop banging your head against a wall

SincoTC

Hi Graeme...yes its the Me.262 HG.III variant, which according to some sources was actually under construction before the end of WW.II. Others suggest it was the mock-up that was being built.

Blimey....the Grey-Faced Buzzard UAV?

I say blimey as it is very similar to this one, which was the homebuilt UAV I found earlier which was exhibited in Taiwan!

Lightning Mate

All yours again. :ok:

The similarity is astonishing!

Going home now - hope to see a new one up.

skytrain10
21st Feb 2012, 15:41
Thanks David...as you say they are extremely similar, just the angle of the foreplanes are different, and of course the twin bogey on the homebuilt job. I do however suspect that either the Buzzard was the production version of the homebuild job, or that the homebuild job was a copy of the Buzzard....they are just too alike.

Next one...nice and easy.

It's probably the fence in the background, but is it American?

Clue may well be needed as not getting anywhere on the usual sites:ugh:

Lightning Mate

It was indeed American....and you know exactly where to go, and it ain't Aerofiles.

Wanna year to cut down search time?

Ta muchly - just been in class for a while.

Ridge Runner
22nd Feb 2012, 14:12
It looks like a Fw190 replica with a second wing?

Edit: An Aerocad machine???

Lightning Mate
22nd Feb 2012, 14:16
Looking at the gear struts I would think it's smaller than it may first appear.

In comparison, the radial looks big though.

skytrain10
22nd Feb 2012, 14:36
Looking at the gear struts I would think it's smaller than it may first appear. Not really...over 2,500 kgs in weight. Wingspan over 30 ft.

the radial looks big though. Its a fair size and not what you would normally expect in a homebuild job.

It looks like a Fw190 replica with a second wing? Interesting:) But no connection whatsoever with the Fw.190 and not by Aerocad.

Lightning Mate
22nd Feb 2012, 14:57

skytrain10
22nd Feb 2012, 15:55
Clue....all is perhaps not what it seems ;)

Lightning Mate
22nd Feb 2012, 16:22

Does that mean it's more modern than it looks?

Good thinkinghttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/thumbs.gif...but no photo in Aerofiles.

The inference is therefore that is described ony.

A Rotec engine?

skytrain10
22nd Feb 2012, 16:34
Does that mean it's more modern than it looks? Actually that wasn't my meaning, but it so happens it is a modern design:ok:

The inference is therefore that is described ony. Correct:ok:

A Rotec engine? Nope...try Pratt & Whitney:)

Is it yellow? There are yellow ones:)
Once again that's taken me to "C" in Aerofiles........ Not the place to be David.
P&W Wasp.........only one registered? Wasp yes, but there are a few of these aircraft around.

From Karl's rather "off the cuff" comment I have a feeling he knows the answer!

Griffon Aerospace Lionheart ? Spot on Bri :ok: Yes, the rather unsuccessful Lionheart kit plane, designed to bring back the spirit of the Beech 17. Had to hunt for that one photo that did not give it away:) I thought Martin's earlier comment about an Fw.190 with an extra wing might have got people thinking!

David, now you know why I made the comment that all is perhaps not what it seems:)

skytrain10

Disappear for a bite to eat and it starts moving!

Nord 1405 Gerfaut II?

Edit if correct will have to be OH...or better still I think it should go to David as he was very close.

evansb
22nd Feb 2012, 18:06
Yes, the Nord 1405.:ok: As skytrain10 requests, Lightning Mate has control.

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 08:55
Morning mate. :)

This Fokker is not a Fokker.

Ridge Runner
23rd Feb 2012, 09:07
Avro 618??? If not - a SABCA, Avia, IMAM, AAC or a Polish copy?

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 09:11
Avro 618???

Remove the question marks please.

You have control. :ok:

Ridge Runner
23rd Feb 2012, 09:33
Thanks, David. I regret I must declare an OH as I have had no time to prepare anything. RR :(

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 09:37

Looks distinctly Jap.

Ridge Runner
23rd Feb 2012, 10:05
A metal and wood construction? European, therefore? A fighter? (although I can't see evidence of armaments)

RR

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 10:09
(although I can't see evidence of armaments)

Unless it's a torpedo bomber.

skytrain10
23rd Feb 2012, 10:10
Looks distinctly Jap. It does a little....but not from Japan

European, therefore? A fighter? Yes, European but more of an attack aircraft...has machine guns but could carry bombs too.

A metal and wood construction Yep

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 10:14
Caproni AP-1 ?

No - the Bergamaschi?

skytrain10
23rd Feb 2012, 10:17
Caproni AP-1 Bingo, well done, yes it's the Caproni AP.1:ok:

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 10:22
Just realised both my answers are the same aeroplane. :\

Now what would you like - sumfin' very old, newish, or in between?

skytrain10
23rd Feb 2012, 10:27
newish would be good:ok:

Lightning Mate

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 10:43
Nice try mate, but no.

Ain't that one got fixed Fowler flaps?

Ridge Runner
23rd Feb 2012, 10:54
I'm guessing its a homebuilt, Ken?

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 10:56
David says yes.

skytrain10
23rd Feb 2012, 10:57
Ain't that one got fixed Fowler flaps? Now I've looked I see it has - it was just an educated guess as the shape looked about right:)

Presume as Martin speculates, it's a homebuild job?

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 11:00
Yes - as I said above.

skytrain10
23rd Feb 2012, 11:02
Something bigger maybe....the Just Aircraft Escapade?

Edit, assuming correct will have to be Open House as will not have much chance to look in for the rest of the day.

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 11:07
It is indeed.

Your turn. :ok:

....and be gentle with us.....

Lightning Mate

Ridge Runner

He declared OH!! Unf i don't have anything, David. Do you?

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 12:38

Ridge Runner
23rd Feb 2012, 13:28
British, Torpedo Bomber?

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 13:33
Not British - either bombs or a torpedo.

Ridge Runner
23rd Feb 2012, 13:34
Ah... a jap, then??

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 13:45

Karlark
23rd Feb 2012, 14:00
I believe it's that Nakajima B3N.

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 14:03
It had a couple of names and that's one of them.

All yours again. :ok:

Karlark
23rd Feb 2012, 14:09
Wasn't too sure if it was the B3N or B4N1... open house as I can only peak in now & then today.

Lightning Mate
23rd Feb 2012, 14:13
Oh no - not again!!!

btw, it was also known as the Experimental 7-Shi.

Lightning Mate

Lightning Mate

Beagle?..

edit: bugger..er no.

evansb

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 07:40
Morning David....I thought this one might make a return appearance:)

So, a Russian homebuilt job? The one visible engine appears to be overwing mounted? So 2 engines?

Lightning Mate
24th Feb 2012, 08:17
Yes mate - I know you saw it and my clue, so this is your chance.

Single engine with choices available, but I can find no details of which ones.

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 08:21
Thanks David. Presumably a recent, ie 2000's design?

Lightning Mate
24th Feb 2012, 08:31
Can't find any dates mate, but I reckon you're on the right lines.

Off into class for about 45 mins.

Lightning Mate
24th Feb 2012, 09:07
Wanna juicy clue?

Lightning Mate
24th Feb 2012, 10:49
...yer tiz...

http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu82/Lightning_29/Argos-store-locator.jpg

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 11:14
Thanks for the clue...I think!

Mmm, not in my bumper book of Russian homebuilt aircraft:)

So, low wing, single engine, single seat homebuild, probably recent design, with a large tail!

Lightning Mate
24th Feb 2012, 11:28
Look at the store name again......

Wanna modded shop pic?

If not, how about another photo of the aeroplane.

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 11:36
All it makes me think of is the Argo-02 which IS in my bumper book of homebuilds! So something else by Argo?

Lightning Mate
24th Feb 2012, 11:37
It is the Argo 02.

You have control. :ok:

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 11:40

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 11:49
I was thrown by the very different Fin/Rudder! :(

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 11:53
Well a bit stumped really. The tail is totally different from what pictures I've seen and the line drawing.. Guess its an adaption of the basic design? Peril's of homebuilds - builders can change things:)

Lightning Mate
24th Feb 2012, 11:54
Sorry to cause so much trouble.

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 11:55
No probs ... Come on Ken, do your worst!! :)

Lightning Mate
24th Feb 2012, 11:56
No......don't do that Ken.

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 11:56
Sorry to cause so much trouble. no probs, just one of those things:)

Will have one ready shortly.

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 11:58
As long as it isn't a homebuilt/LSA!!!!! :) :)

Lightning Mate
24th Feb 2012, 12:02

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 12:24
Blimey!!! It really was built and flew? Or was it a model, Ken?

Edit:

Twin-jet?
High wing?
T-tail?
V/STOL?

Lightning Mate
24th Feb 2012, 12:27
Blown wing?

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 13:10
Blimey!!! It really was built and flew? Or was it a model, Ken? Believe it or not, this was built and it did fly! However the picture I have used is an artists impression largely because I could not find a decent useable picture of the real thing. So there could be some differences.

Twin jet, high wing, T-tail, STOL. Not a blown wing (that I can see) David.

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 13:23
I'm guessing there are few countries that have tried this kind of thing out so can we start thinning out the odds? Is it American?

Edit: planned as a military transport? Rear-loading door/ramp, perhaps?

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 13:38
Is it an Antonov, by chance?

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 13:47
Not American or Russian Martin.

There were both civil and military applications, but development was stopped. It did have rear doors but no mention of a ramp. However I am sure that was a possibility.

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 14:12
I'm guessing at Japanses mate but I really can't find anything other than a reference to a "japanese STOL research project"...... :(

edit: scrub that, I've been misled!!

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 15:35
"japanese STOL research project". To put your mind at rest, there is no connection with Japan that I can see. However it was built in an Asian country.

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 15:37
Such as China?? :)

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 15:42
Such as China?? Logical thought, but no.

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 15:48
That leaves few others I guess..... not Aussie 'cos it looks too sophisticated (;) Graeme), not Indian 'cos I thought I knew all their machines (maybe not) and so... Korea????????

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 15:58
None of those mate, although I guess you would get there by a process of elimination :). I should explain that the design is European. The company built and flew the one and only example in Asia, presumably to keep costs down.

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 16:00
OK... I have 30 minutes to go and then ... eject!!!!! So.......

German design?

Lightning Mate
24th Feb 2012, 16:09
Good evening Ken and Martin.

Reading with interest since I left.

Presumably the Asian country in question would have sophisticated aircraft production facilities, and in my mind that points to Taiwan.

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 16:14
So maybe the AIDC XC-2?

Edit: er... no!!! Stupid me!!!!!

SincoTC
24th Feb 2012, 16:27
Evening all :),

Apologies for absence, been a helluva week!!

It's British (or was :() the AVCEN Jetpod, I guess the project died with it's inventor. AVCEN Jetpod - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCEN_Jetpod)

skytrain10
24th Feb 2012, 16:28
Welcome back David...not Taiwan. This country is not really known for major aircraft projects, although interestingly this would not have been the first such venture whereby it has hosted production of a non-home grown machine.

The manufacturer is not German.

Ridge Runner
24th Feb 2012, 16:31
Blimey! So it is!!! And ..... I'm off ..... bye eeeeeeeeee :)

Edit: A very nice challenge, Ken!!!!!!!!!!!

And while I'm answering questions, Trevor jumps in and strikes! Yes its the British designed (but Malaysian built) AVCEN Jertpod. Well done Trevor:ok:

This was the artists impression - one of many on the web:

http://i551.photobucket.com/albums/ii457/kendyer/4513fc01.jpg
And here's the reason there are no decent pictures of it!

http://malfly.********.com/2011/07/avcen-jetpod.html
One wonders what might have been had this not happened.

Edit, seems above link does not work, but do a search for it and you'll find an article in the Malaysian Flying Herald.

Pilatus P-2?

SincoTC
24th Feb 2012, 19:40
G'day Graeme,

Sorry mate, not a Pilatus!

McDonalds. A lot of snouts there..

In the trough or in the burgers?? :)

I visited a house of the "Golden Arches" in Kuala Lumpur a few years ago; 'twas really weird, exactly like here in the UK and all the world over, except all the staff were pensioners instead of in their teens :hmm:!!

Hope your boy enjoys it :ok:

Speaking of snouts, is yours (the challenge that is) Boche - Argus/Hirth?

pensioners instead of in their teens

There's hope for me yet!

What's the story behind that?

SincoTC
24th Feb 2012, 20:37
is yours (the challenge that is) Boche - Argus/Hirth?

Yes, no and yes!

The sprightly old bugger who was zooming around with a broom, said he was eighty-five and that the youngsters were too busy studying, which was good 'coz he hadn't got a pension and was pleased to get the work, plus he liked meeting people and practicing his english!!
