Apologies.
For what I could gather from various sources, they were made by manufacturers with different names, at least apparently.
Guess that's what happens when there's little information owing to political/military reasons.
Re the repeat, I checked the list, but it takes a lot to load, so chances are that I checked it but it was only halfway through and didn't have enough time to load up to "O"...

There are refill kits available for way less cost.

Tech demonstrator.
Evalued as obsolete.
Cancelled. ;)

RegDep
6th Aug 2011, 14:13
DASA company launched the project TDEFS (Technology Demonstrator for Enhancement and Future Systems). Once again it was faceted stealthy demonstrator, but a much universal then Lampyridae, optimized for the european battlefield. The second important change was the using of the two engines. The basic concept was tested on a serie of the small models in high speed wind tunnel called FTTU (Fliegender Technologie - Trager Unbemannet). But in this time the faceted technology was evaluated against curves as obsolete and the program was cancelled.

Lightning Mate
6th Aug 2011, 16:57
With a single vertical fin, surely that can't be a jet in front of it.

Therefore is it a piston job?

skytrain10
6th Aug 2011, 17:19
With a single vertical fin, surely that can't be a jet in front of it.But it is...a jet that is!

So what car did you get?

Edit to say going offline for a while. Will check in later this evening.

RegDep
6th Aug 2011, 18:12
What I could make of the picture is that we might be seeing one of the two dorsal air inlets and the engine (one) would be down in the fuselage.

If there would be two in some kind of pods, we could explain away the single vertical fin, but could we then explain the low horisontal stabiliser?

See you guys in the morning. Nite!

skytrain10
6th Aug 2011, 21:29
Evening all.

we might be seeing one of the two dorsal air inlets
There is just the one inlet mounted above the fuselage. Single jet engine.

First clue...this is a Project from a well known designer.

Noyade

Evening Ken! :) Are you home now?

well known designer.

American? Grumman or maybe Gulfstream.

Noyade
6th Aug 2011, 22:12
And last questions, for now :)
Tandem seating?
Jet exhaust at the extreme end of the tail?

skytrain10
6th Aug 2011, 22:32
Morning Graeme. Yep, home for a few days at least :)
American? Grumman or maybe Gulfstream Not American...a European design.
Tandem seating? No....side-by-side seating
Jet exhaust at the extreme end of the tail? No, the engine itself is immediately behind the intake....the exhaust appears to be directed either side of the vertical tail surface (I've reached that conclusion from the picture and 3-view).

Closing down in a few mins mate, but hopefully you've now got something to think about on your Sunday morning! :)

RegDep

Lightning Mate

Lightning Mate
7th Aug 2011, 12:22
Is the engine an upright Cirrus, or something bigger?

RegDep
7th Aug 2011, 12:27
Yes, the engine was an upright Cirrus in the original aircraft which would be a correct ID. There was one modification with something racier (300 hp), but there is no certainty (as far as I am aware) which one version was pictured.

Lightning Mate
7th Aug 2011, 12:57
I presume it was an American Cirrus then, and not the low powered British one.

OK American, in Aerofiles. The tail fin looked a bit that way.

Engine: 9-cylinder radial, with sort of cowling. From 1923 - 1935…

Problem with Aerofiles is that the data is in pages containing quite many links to pictures, and once you have a hit, all pictures form that page come out as images in Giggle Image. Is there a work-around?

skytrain10
8th Aug 2011, 14:08
7 cyclinder radial...one aircraft built of this particular model (modified from an earlier model), appears in photo's both with and without the cowling.

Problem with Aerofiles is that the data is in pages containing quite many links to pictures, and once you have a hit, all pictures form that page come out as images in Giggle Image. RegDep

In JB, OFSO explains how GPS works and I think it deserves to be repeated here:

How does GPS calculate position ?

The Gnomic Phase Shift uses very small flatulant gnomes located inside the device. Two are required (and actually only one need be flatulant, although usually both are). The second gnome holds a stopwatch. When the first gnome breaks wind, the second gnome starts the watch and listens acutely. When the echo of the wee flatule is received, the second gnome stops the watch. They then argue for a few miliseconds over who will hold the stopwatch the next time, causing the loser's usual grin to turn into a frown, and this "face shift" as it's known, divided by the transit time is shown as your location on your device.

I think that's right ?

How does GPS calculate position ?

Binary Phase Shift Keying modulation for both navigation data, ephemeris information, and almanac data.

Best accuracy is obtained via LI and L2 precision codes, which enables accurate propagation (ionospheric and atmospheric) error prediction, because the refractive indices of both frequencies may be very accurately predicted and modelled.

SincoTC
8th Aug 2011, 21:31
Evening Guys,

My take on this is that it's an early machine, and judging by the shape of the nose it probably started life with a Radial engine that has fairly recently been replaced with a high revving modern (automobile or marine V-4??) with a reduction gear to suit the original or similar sized two-blade prop.

The cockpit looks very close to the front and I wonder if the new powerplant is a lot lighter than the original donk, so the pilot was moved forward to aid in keeping the CG where it needs to be!

Edit: RR has re-appeared while I was typing and filled in some of the gaps, thanks mate, sleep well :)

Walter engine on this variant. Originally a radial

The engine on your silhouette doesn't look like any Walter I've seen (but then there's no doubt I haven't seen them all :)), or do you mean that the original 1920's machine had a Walter radial, maybe the 60Hp five-cyl which appeared in the mid 20's before they had names, the Castor 7-cyl seems a little late!

Not had much luck searching so far :ugh: and off to work soon, good luck guys :ok:

Sorry for any confusion!

The variant on which this replica is based was powered by a 85hp Walter. I can't find any refernce on line that says what the engine actually is on the challenge machine! It is current, flying as recently as 2009. European. Originally produced in the 1920s. Eight were produced. Two-seater with both sat in one open cockpit.

RR
