too busy studyingNow that's interesting mate. Only the other day there was a report showing that Aussie kids are falling behind the rest of the world, "acacdemically." Hard to believe, I know. :)

Our Universities are full of overseas students.

I only have one decent "Bible of Boche Flying Machines"...?....

Good evening Ken.

Is this a project? Never flew? First thought was the Potez 840, but there are differences.

skytrain10

Morning Graeme, yes a project, but not from France.

Offline for a while but will check in later.

A Canadian Dash-7 proposal?

skytrain10
25th Feb 2012, 21:34
It was intended for the same market as the DHC-7 but no connection and its not Canadian. You are in the right part of the world though.

26th Feb 2012, 06:30
Unless i am mistaken,i am sure we had this before,as far as i can remember it was called something like General Aircraft Corp, GAC 2000,does that ring a bell with anybody?

Lightning Mate
26th Feb 2012, 08:22
Morning.:)

With only three prop blades per engine I assume fairly low power, so a piston and not a turboprop.

skytrain10
26th Feb 2012, 08:51
Morning....well, Irishair almost has it, but I cannot see that we have had it before. It is from General Aircraft, but it's not the GAC-2000.

Despite the 3 prop blades it was to be a turboprop. PT6A engines.

Noyade
26th Feb 2012, 08:57
Howdy Ken.

GAC-100?

skytrain10
26th Feb 2012, 09:04
Howdy yourself Graeme.

Yes it is the GAC-100. Looks like it got to the mock-up stage , but no further. Several references in Flight, including:
1969 | 3111 | Flight Archive (http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1969/1969%20-%203111.html)

Looks like GAC were also expecting some military interest judging by this model:

http://i551.photobucket.com/albums/ii457/kendyer/8ab2cb0a.jpg

I see it was mentioned in another forum, so maybe that's where you had the thought from Irishair? It had been incorrectly referred to as Australian!

Talking of Australia....Noyade has control:ok:

Just followed on from what Irishair said, and you saying it was the correct manufacturer but a different designation. Took a punt at around 1980 but the book mentioned the GAC-100, last entry was 1973.

Irishair did most of the work. What's the forum?

Regarding the "rotating radial", in aviation parlance, it is called a "rotary" engine, not to be confused with the NSU/MAZDA rotary auto engine.

The rotary aero-engine was not uncommon in WW.I aeroplanes.

Evening Ken,

Not too sure what to call this; my Spanish is rudimentary and the web translators give a rather difficult to interpret text.

it's one of Alfredo Turbay's last designs, a tandem-seat trainer, possibly called the Turbay T-11, built with the collaboration of Erwin May of AVEX Alaire, it may have been called the Alaire AL-1 Cacique, or even the Alaire Chief, it was registered and flown as an experimental (LV-X44). Take your pick :)

skytrain10
29th Feb 2012, 20:54
Evening Trevor. I would have accepted either the Turbay T.11 or the Alaire AL.1 Cacique, so either way its yours:ok: Just the one built, flown in 1970 and scrapped in the 1990's.

skytrain10
1st Mar 2012, 11:49
No connection with the Widgeon mate.

Pilot trainer, including remote areas and mountains, so perhaps it would fall in to the Bush Plane category? Not actually described as STOL but it does have a relatively short take-off/landing distance.

Your biplane another French?

SincoTC
4th Mar 2012, 03:58
Seen the twisters on TV, very nasty!! The predicted rain has now arrived; down here in the SW, we get most of our weather off the Atlantic, usually nicely moderated by the Gulf-steam!

Not French, but the right continent :)

so far. Only 22" of snow this season compared to about 85" last season

We get a few inches and London Heathrow is closed for a couple of days :O !! Trouble is, we only get your "normal" snowfall once a decade or less, so they can't justify the cost of all the blowers. The last time we had a couple of foot down here in the SW was '77.

Getting late were you are, so I'll say sleep well for now :ok:
