Lightning Mate
4th May 2012, 13:35
It does indeed mate.

However, with no seconder we'll have to wait I fear.

I have just solved sabredogs' challenge on "Challenge" I think, and asked him to get over here but he hasn't.

It is definitely the PA-40. I know this as Ive just spent the last hour looking for it without pressing F5 to refresh my screen!! Well done LM

skytrain10
4th May 2012, 13:57
Just to confirm it is the unsuccessful PA-40 Arapaho, which was to be the replacement for the Twin Comanche. Interesting that some Twin Com's have been modded with the Arapaho style extended fuselage spine.

Pretty cool call if you ask me.

Lightning Mate
8th May 2012, 11:09
I don't know where sabredog is, but below is the original photograph of the KS1.

Perhaps it's time to play the alternative rules therefore.

I feel that evansb has nailed it, so if we can find a seconder then he should resume control and post another challenge to avaid a stalled thread.

Anyone out there...?

Your thread. :ok:

A flying wing or booms? RR

Martin - did you not look at the shadow?

skytrain10
9th May 2012, 12:18
Good call on the Saiman Graeme - the tail was so like to Baldo I assumed there had to be a connection, hence my suggestion.

Is yours the PZL-104 Wilga prototype?

Noyade
9th May 2012, 12:20
This is becoming a little hard to follow, and I don't want to spoil your day, so my challenge was the original PZL 104 Wilga Mark 1, which proved to be a bit of a disaster so they had a major rethink and came up with the now much more familiar Wilga Mark 2 with the radial engine.

OPEN HOUSE.

Cheers. :)

EDIT Is yours the PZL-104 Wilga prototype?

No?

Noyade
9th May 2012, 12:46
Maybe not.

Italian?

skytrain10
9th May 2012, 12:55
Can't recall the Saiman before. Mine is not on Mel's list so hopefully we've not had it. Not Italian.

Lightning Mate
9th May 2012, 12:59
American home-built?

Noyade
9th May 2012, 13:00
OK. American then?

skytrain10
9th May 2012, 13:03
Great minds, or was it the flag?:) Yes, American...a one-off design from the 60's.

Lightning Mate
9th May 2012, 13:12
Home-built?

Ridge Runner
9th May 2012, 13:16
the first Wilga???

skytrain10
9th May 2012, 13:17
Home-built? Not specifically described as such but I guess it would fall in to that category.

Hi Martin...yes, still appears to be timing problems. Don't really understand why they have these issues. It does make life confusing!

Ridge Runner
9th May 2012, 13:17
I give up until the timing is back to normal!!!!

Lightning Mate
9th May 2012, 13:22
Try re-posting your challenge Ken, and see if it comes up in sequence.

Noyade
9th May 2012, 13:25
No relationship I'm sure, but I thought of the Anderson Greenwood and looking at the code for that on Aerofies, would this get us closer?...

1pCmwM - and perhaps with "pusher" added?

skytrain10
9th May 2012, 13:29
1pCmwM - and perhaps with "pusher" added? Close, but it won't find it....it's an open cockpit:)

At David's suggestion I am reposting the challenge:

Lightning Mate
9th May 2012, 14:00

Evening....is it the Friedrichshafen D.I?

SincoTC
9th May 2012, 22:26
Evening again Ken,

You've got it :D; it is the Friedrichshafen D.I

This clean little single-seat fighter was built during 1916, but as it offered no improvement over the Albatros lighters, which had obviously influenced its design, it did not go into production. Engine, 160 h.p. Mercedes D III. Armament, twin Spandau machine-guns

SincoTC

I'm going to hit the hay shortly as I've got an early start and a busy day ahead :(

skytrain10
9th May 2012, 23:06

Yes going to be doing much the same so I'll say good night. Sleep well.

For anyone still out there, usual rules apply:ok:

Lightning Mate
10th May 2012, 10:09

10th May 2012, 12:59
Not Russian mate.

Shall we go globetrotting?

skytrain10
10th May 2012, 13:12
Well it looks like an English setting, so a European design? Twin engined or justr a single?

Lightning Mate
10th May 2012, 13:13
Single engine and not European.

That narrows it down a bit. ;)

Ridge Runner
10th May 2012, 13:21
Is it a homebuilt "straight from the box" or is a contortion of another type? i ralise its not European but it does have a very "Jodelish" tail! RR

Lightning Mate
10th May 2012, 13:23
Is it a homebuilt "straight from the box"

Basically yes - built from marketed plans :ok:

No connection with Jodel.

It's the only one I know where the rear window is triangular.

The silhouette, for my liking, makes the nose look too rounded, even for the earliest models.

However, I feel that Noyade has scored and should take the thread since evansb won't be around now for several hours.

May I have a seconder gentlemen.

Civilian passenger job.

Lightning Mate
11th May 2012, 16:17
Mmmm.....

High aspect ratio with sweepback.

Some aspects of it remind me of the Jungmann/Casa 1.131E.

Is it based on something like those?

skytrain10
11th May 2012, 16:48
Yes it is similar to the Jungmann and it could have served as inspiration or the basis for this design. Unfortunately there is not much documentation about the aircraft and its history, so I am really only speculating.

Lightning Mate
11th May 2012, 17:00
Oh dear.

Well, it certainly looks like a modern homebuilt, apart from maybe the tailwheel support.

I would imagine it's built for aerobatics, but I'm not sure.

I'm also trying to identify the aerial array in the background.........

...and wossa dangly jobber under the lower wing..........

skytrain10
11th May 2012, 17:15
A late 60's design. Not listed as a homebuild but you can assume it is.

Again probably aerobatic, but nothing documented that I can see.

I think that's a dangly antenna beneath the fuselage:)

Lightning Mate
11th May 2012, 17:15
If that aerial system is what I think it is, it's later form of Adcock working on LFR. The last was decommissioned in the 80s.

Therefore is the challenge at least thirty years old?

skytrain10
11th May 2012, 17:25
Think our post's cross...1960's design.

Found a magazine article about it! Yes, designed for aerobatics, and has undergone numerous transformations in terms of its engine over the years. Still registered today and was flying as of 2010.

Will be offline shortly for a couple of hours. Usual rules apply in my absence:ok:

Lightning Mate
11th May 2012, 17:33
I'll be going as well mate, but I'll pop back later.

I wonder if it's based on a Great Lakes design.

The morning should be interesting.................

skytrain10

Pre 1945?

Lightning Mate
12th May 2012, 10:32
Something from Lambert?

SincoTC
12th May 2012, 10:36
Initially developed in the early thirties, by the famous designer, with its own engine, the company failed and was bought by another well known individual who bought the rights from the designer and formed a new company with him to produce it.

SincoTC
12th May 2012, 10:39
Something from Lambert?

The designer was working for them when he conceived this and later bought the right off them when they failed!

Built with several engine types, this variant had a not so well known 90 hp radial engine

Noyade
12th May 2012, 10:45
I'm lost. :) He was famous, but his company failed?

The Dart GW?

Lightning Mate
12th May 2012, 10:47
Sumfin' wiv Monocoupe then?

SincoTC
12th May 2012, 10:52
Mooney was the designer when he worked for the Lambert Aircraft company, he bought the rights from them when Lambert failed and formed the Dart Aircraft company with K.K Culver and it was renamed the Culver Aircraft Company in 1939. Later Mooney formed his own company that outlasted them all as we know!

The Dart GW?

That's near enough mate :D My variant was the Culver Dart GK with a Ken-Royce engine
