A familiar planform but can't immediately think what it is...are we looking at a high wing, tricycle undercarriage, swept tail?

skytrain10
26th Sep 2011, 21:39
Having just proposed its high wing, I'm thinking it could be the Evektor EuroStar (or SportStar). Can't find a 3-view but the wings/tail look right and some models don't have wheel spats. Not very confident so will keep looking for a while!

RegDep
26th Sep 2011, 21:54
Funny. This is the way it went the previous times, too.

Tricycle, swept tail, but low wing and not Evektor, as far as I understand, and as far as the type certificate calls it.

Reg, calling it a day now. From your comment I guess there is a connection with the EuroStar (or SportStar to those in the US), but not sure what! Only other machine that I have found that seems to look about right is the Aero AT-3 or AT-4.

Eurostar was it. Just fix the rest.

skytrain10
26th Sep 2011, 22:54
Eurostar....well there's the Evektor EV-97 Eurostar. That was previously known as the Aerotechnik EV-97 Eurostar, and I believe in the UK it was marketed for a while as the Cosmik EV-97 etc etc. I can't any other Eurostars!! Then there is the TeamEurostar range....which is just a homebuild Eurostar.

Going to shut down now, so if any of those are correct make it Open House:ok:

RegDep

But got sidetracked with jet rear-ends. Whatever takes your fancy mate!

Does the starboard wing-tip make it look like there's a ventral jet engine? Yep, its one of those modern wing-tips that curls up, although from photos on the web some aircraft have a more conventional wing-tip.

European design.

Edit to say...not sure what the technical name is for them, but they are not huge, more just the proximity and angle of the camera to the aircraft..

RegDep
29th Sep 2011, 14:29
There is a reason Mate:

It is Curtiss XP-71

Curtiss XP-71 was a 1940 proposal of a heavy escort fighter aircraft for USAAF. Two prototypes were ordered. The development were equipped with Wasp Mayor turbocharged radial engines and was featuring pusher configuration with 8 contra rotating propellers.

The final design of the XP-71 was bigger than the B-25 Mitchell medium bomber so this complex aircraft was considered to be need a lot of resources to built.

A mock up was built to gain data for the prototypes but later, the requirement of more advanced fighters such as jets led to the cancellation of the XP-71 project and the prototype was never built in 1942.

Dave, you lost me. The picture above is Noyade's own clue to his challenge #2942, and I maintain in my response that it is IMAM Ro.37.

Technically, we are now waiting for two independent confirmations on my response being correct (or Noyade coming back and calling it), or, of course, if someone disagrees with me s/he can propose alternative solutions, and the same process take place with that.

AFAIK Viima had/has radial engine, except one Viima IIB with Gipsy Major.

With all respect due, Brian, I think your challenge is Ilyushin Il-30, with swept wings and straight HS.

The Ilyushin Il-30 was a Soviet turbojet-powered tactical bomber designed as a higher-performance version of the Il-28 in the late 1940s. It was apparently canceled before the prototype made its first flight, although sources disagree on this.

Il-28 had straight leading edge and dihedral HS.
