Martin,

There were five aeroplanes posted on 25 May 2010 and the Boyero isn't one of them.

Karlark,

Despite it's appearance this looks like a glider.

Karlark

Not a glider.... twin engined.

Two demonstrators were built, however the production order was canceled due to shortage of materials.

Lightning Mate
10th Nov 2011, 14:52
Was that material wood by any chance?

Karlark
10th Nov 2011, 15:23
You mean plywood? That must have been it. :)

Lightning Mate
10th Nov 2011, 15:37
Well, at some point during WW2 the stuff was becoming scarce in the USA, and Beech were working on a plywood bomber trainer.

However, I can find little else.

Karlark
10th Nov 2011, 16:06
Very close LM. Wartime USA but not Beech or a bomber trainer.

Well known manufacturer of small piston aircraft and business jets.

Evening Ken,

Hmm, I'm a little lost on this one as there's so little data, it is on a well known (to me :E) website, but I'm pretty certain that you know it and maybe have even used it, but in this case, the Data Section is full of question marks!!

The only positive thing I can say is that it was designed by an amateur Wieslaw Rogala after 1945

skytrain10
12th Nov 2011, 17:52
Funnily enough I was just doing a search on the Weissa motorglider when I saw your reply...sounds like it could be something designed by someone called Wieslaw:)?

Morning Graeme,

Sorry, all Ithat's known is that it's post '45.

Strictly speaking the answer is already out of the bag and it only really need finding on the web. For that you really need to help Giggle out by using our dear friend Heikki's method of searching in the site's native language as motor-glider won't find it :)

Edit: just swapping houses, back in fifteen min!

Noyade
12th Nov 2011, 20:51
just swapping houses, back in fifteen min! Wow! Takes much longer here with banks, solicitors, inspections, cooling-off period - can take months.

:)

searching in the site's native languageHow do ya do that? I've got a search box (for text) then next to it is a little magnifying glass (search) and next to that is a picture of a little house (maybe that's for house swapping?:)).

(PS- Love to know how ya upload and post those YouTube clips too).

Noyade
12th Nov 2011, 21:09
just swapping housesMental picture...man (elderly :)) on the run from the police. Armed with a shotgun and systematically breaking into houses and using the occupants computer...to play silhouette challenge, briefly, then moving onto the next house.

Terrible life mate, give it up Trevor! Turn yourself in. I'm sure they have computers in prison.

SincoTC
12th Nov 2011, 21:10
All swapped and back now, we just have slick conveyancers here mate :p

How do ya do that?

Instead of searching for something in English when the likely location of the source is a site like Airwar or Aviafrance, where they don't have an English version of their site, I just use Giggle Translate to find out what, for example motor-glider is in German or Polish (the most likely sites for that kind of aircraft) and then copy and paste that word into the normal search box. Don't forget to check the Image tab too as it's easier to spot than a mass of Web pages!

You can then go one stage further by using the search whatever text inurl:Site url e.g. Pusher inurl:aerofiles.com will return a list of Aerofile entries with the word pusher in them in

Noyade
12th Nov 2011, 21:25

What I thought would be a straightforward challenge appears not to be. Karl has proposed the SA60, which I thought was the Sierra Nevada Corp SA60, but I am wondering if SA60 is just a generic name for the size of the airship.

To make life easier, just the name of the munufacturer will suffice as the manufturer has made a number of virtually identical models. This one dates from the 1990's and would appear to have undergone modifications over the years.

It flies and can kill Ken? Morning Graeme and thanks for your kind comments:):), I think its safe to say my challenge can fly but is unlikely to kill, unless it inadvertently lands on you!

Remotely controlled UAV?All very good questions....

Size...small, I presume around 13ft in diameter (I'll try to confirm this!)
Purpose...test vehicle
Manned

Is it happy? Probably not, it was replaced by bigger and presumably better models. Looks like it should have been in 2001:)

Edit, ignore the size....my theory blown apart....more like 40 ft in diameter!

It's funny but I suppose because I've seen the G.160 at an airshow and at the time it got a lot of publicity I figured it would go quickly...but there is comparitively little information about it now, and even Grob's website makes no mention (that I can see) of it! Guess you don't advertise an aircraft that never made it.

There are photo's on the web with the LS1 wearing its spats, so I'm hopeful I've got it right:)

Evening SincoTC. Yes it is the 45-80 Sekani! :D:D:D:D

Another obscure one lost in history. It was the largest "bush" plane ever built. It was fit with both skis and floats. It nearly bankrupt Fairchild!

Here are a few pages of photos:

An interestig challenge; most of the photos on the web show it as a floatplane from the side; which looks nothing like your silhouette, fortunately I persisted because the description seemed to fit, then I happened across the Canadian Aviation site and found the image yuo had used (even that was captioned as a floatplane)!

Another early start for me, but I don't want this one tto linger as monitoring time will be limited, so here's an easy one for those on trailing or leading time zones ;) !

And we know why that is don't we, 'coz it is :ok:

The caption says it's a Loire et Olivier LeO.451

I came across this almost ready-made silhouette while looking for images of the post-war flying laboratory 451E variant, which are quite scarce on the web, and being a lazy sod I couldn't resist using it despite that give-away tail

Karkark has control :D:D (or is too near bed-time?} :)

Oh well, back to work now for me, sleep well :ok:

Hi Graeme,

Tupolev SB 2....?

That looks like a pretty good call and it gets my vote (or its Aka ANT-40)! My only concern is the T/E wing fillets seem a bit larger on the silhouette, but that may be just an illusion, or an artefact of the process.

Hopefully someone else will confirm too!

PM sent re winged thing :)

Morning all. The other option is the Archangel Ar-2, which would have been my "favourite"!

Well I don't believe it's the Tupolev SB 2.

The Ant-40 / Ar-2 looks much more like it.

Definitely the SB-RK AR2.
Not too sure how to post links, but this might help.

Good morning Gents :)!

That's better, the Archangel Ar-2 looks much more like it and answers my concern over the differences to the SB-2, alas I had no time to follow it up earlier this morning.

Thanks for the link SD, To me that matches Karlark's silhouette exactly

Good shot Ken :ok:

Morning David,

Karl did say to carry on if there was an correct answer " please move forward once confirmed by anyone" With a closer look (and I'm properly awake now and have changed my mind :)), I'd say that SD's link confirms Ken's first post #4243 this morning, would you second that and give control to skytrain?

Coffee break's over now, seeya later if work permits :ok:
