Hi Ken.

Another motor-glider....:)

Listed, but not illustrated, in Aerofiles, so maybe you can try the Sinco Code Trick? He's just had a coffee and won't be back for a while. :)

Hi Graeme...first one I come to that meets the criteria is the Corcoran 65-1?

Lightning Mate
9th Feb 2012, 12:03
Just past midnight in NSW.

Has he gone ?

Now what.......................

Lightning Mate
9th Feb 2012, 12:28
Ken,

I'm sure you have it, but with no photographs available, (at least I can't find any), there is no conclusive evidence.

Are we going to play the usual "jury" card?

SincoTC
9th Feb 2012, 12:45
A'rtnoon Gents,

Just having a lunch time look; I agree with Ken's answer and confirm that adding "Pusher" to the 1pCB code only returns the Corcoran 65-1 in an Aerofiles search. Like you, I can't easily find a picture on the Web and expect it's from Graeme's Bumper book of Bipes".

I'm sure he would expect us to carry on! Go for it Ken :ok:

Lightning Mate

Concurred.

I think I've solved his engine challenge as well.

skytrain10
9th Feb 2012, 13:39
Thanks David and Trevor
I certainly can't see anything else in Aerofiles that matches the criteria. I have heard of the Coracoran so I'm guessing it must figure in a magazine or book I have somewhere. Anyway I will carry on with the next challenge:

Morning Graeme....thanks re the Coracoran. I recognise the photo but can't think where I've seen it.

No more Argentinian challenges for a while! This one is European, 1930's.

Caudron C.480 Frégate then?

...or C.510 Pélican.

Not the C480...that had slightly swept wings.

Same year of manufacture as the C.510 and very similar looking save for the tail, which on most C510's was significantly higher than on the challenge aircraft, and the engine exhaust, which on the 510 goes further back.

Caudron C.410. It is indeed the Caudron C.410 Karl. Well done:ok:,

David, you came so close so if I may, in light of Karl's OH call, I award control to LM.

Buttrick, sorry but is your post a proposed challenge in view of Karl's call for OH or are you questioning whether it is a Caudron C.410?

skytrain10
10th Feb 2012, 15:09
Hi buttrick...currently LightningMate has control, which I offered in light of him coming very close to answering my last challenge (which was correctly identified by Karl). As regards to your post, are you saying that you don't know what it is? Or are you not certain that Aviafrance is correct? It actually looks very familiar and I'm thinking we've had it as a previous challenge. Let me check.

David, please go ahead with your next challenge.

Hi David...I've assumed this is a US designn, if for no other reason than there appears to be what is probably an N registered aircraft in the background...but initial Aerofiles searches have not proved very useful:(. Assume single or two seat open cockpit?

Lightning Mate
10th Feb 2012, 16:40
Single seat.

In my post *5786 I answered you with American.

The challenge is the original version. In Aerofiles is an image of it with four modifications.

skytrain10
10th Feb 2012, 17:00
See what you mean re modifications....the Replogle Gold Bug?

In my post *5786 I answered you with American. You did! However having struggled through Aerofiles I was beginning to think that it was South American, and therefore not in Aerofiles:)

Afternoon Ken,

A busy weekend for me, but grabbing some time for a quick look-in :)

Intrigued by the silhouette around the spinner, do we see a foreplane and a wing? if so, is it a tandem, Canard or three-lifting-surface jobber? Nothing so interesting Trevor...just a couple of antenna's on the starboard wing that just happen to show because of the angle of the photo. So a conventional arrangement.

G'day Graeme,

Yes I think it is, but I did spend a while this morning chasing non existant foreplanes/canards :)

However, I haven't found a photo from that angle, plus it's missing an aerial behind the cockpit, so it may not be correct!!

Evening/Morning Guys
Been busy this evening. but back now.
Not an IL-103 and no connection that I can see.

evansb
12th Feb 2012, 16:27
The photo is grainy, but the image has all the hallmarks of a Beaufort. ). The tail-wheel was retractable on some marks.. No other aircraft type even faintly resembles it. I had to paint out the RAF roundel and the letter "A" to the right of the roundel before posting. Curved alloy extensions were added later to the tailing edges to improve dive handling.
I'll see if I can relocate the source of the photo.

Look closer and you can see the outline of the leading edge of the vertical stab. To the right of your yellow outline.. It is faint but it is visible. Tail wheel? What tail wheel? The aircraft was deemed slow, so improvements were made to give it a few extra knots. The Australian made Beauforts had completely enclosed landing gear, and different antenna.
