Maybe! was the open day on sunday the 6th may or close to that? i cant remember. and were you there at the rialto on the monday?

Well i told my friend word for word of what i can remember everthing about the day and what were my responses to the questions and she said that "i'm in" however, shes a friend that is jsut trying to be positive and nice, and again oyu never know what they are looking for on that day. and with the info put on this site you can never be sure, i mean people have applied for it like 6 times or so and still havent got it, i admire them for that!
i recon in give it about 2 more weeks from you final interview to start checking those emails every day coz remember they were going up to sydney afer that week of 1 on 1's in melb so then they would have had another week in sydney then i think they back to dubai. so really they've probably only jsut kinda got back. but again who knows hun!

Hi guys,
I attended the Sydney Emirates interviews and made it through to the final one on one interviews. My interview was on Thursday and after that they were going back to Dubai. If they were the same people that were in Melb doing our interviews they probably would have only been back at work yesterday or today.
They would have only just started to look over the resumes etc and would have to collect more info from people eg photo's, references. They then have to get approval from different depts in Emirates before they can get the go ahead for the successful people to attend medicals....which I believe are also full on. It will prob be at least a week before we hear anything.
Still checking my email every day though just in case!

My original posting has nothing to do with intolerance towards non native English speakers. Whether we like it or not, people do need to have a good grasp of English, if only to understand the manuals which can be confusing, complicated and badly written at the best of times.
The increasing numbers who are failing in their SEP's will testify to that!
BYMONEK how clever are you!!! I knew you would notice my editing and that's exactly why I did it, to make you notice it!!! To be completely honest with you (since you know I like you a lot, despite your hard shell) I needed to add "DEFINITELY" as I keep seeing it spelt "DEFINATELY" - especially by your fellow pilot friends - in every other post and it's one of those spelling mistakes I really cannot bear!!!

Now, Rivaldo, if these people who spell definitely - "DEFINATELY" have been able to land jobs as pilots, I am sure you can become a cabin crew even if you spell walking - "WOLKING". Just go for it mate, you've got nothing to lose!

BYMONEK you're right when you say that you need to have a good knowledge of the English language to understand SEP manuals (and to pass the interview in the first place). However, if - as you say - many people fail SEP tests just because of their language capabilities, could that be a sign that the recruitment process should be improved?

I still love you though.

hey, was your interviewers named amalita or mirivac? if it was them i figured as much that they would only just be back in dubai so really its jsut a waiting game which is frustrating!
Ive been for a airline medical before and yes they are full on. from what my friend tells me who worked for them for the 3year contract its more full on than what i had to go through as ariline crew in australia.
Like lots of blood tests, preg tests drug tests etc. and all the normal things like hearing, sight, lung capasity, weight, height, coordination. the one i went to took about 2hours but its nothing that you can really prep yourself for.

Ive also been reading that people have said that you have to pay for the medicals? which i didnt think you did. who knows, worry about that when it comes to it!!

Yeah Amelita and Mir...(not sure how to spell it or say it)
I have also heard that the Emirates medical is pretty full on. I think it may even go over two days. I have gone through a Qantas medical and it wasn't too bad about 1 hour but they do take blood, make you stretch in different ways to test flexiblility, hearing, lung and sight and make you pee into a cup...drug testing etc.
I think you have to get a lot of different injections for Emirates. Qantas just tested to see if you had a measels vac in your blood and they give you a Hepatitis shot which you need two more of later in the year.
They may make us pay for the medical test. I guess it depends if they have an Emirates doctor in Sydney/Melb. Otherwise they may make us go to our local doctors with a sheet with all the info they need the doctor to test for. I guess then you would have to pay for the consultation fee.
I had to pay for the Qantas blood test as they send it to an outside company to test but that was only about $20. I guess if they are asking you to do a medical you are pretty much in so hey whats a $100 anyway.
I was reading on either this website or another that someone from another country went for there one on one interviews on the 15th of May and they got called yesterday to start training mid June. I guess it depends how many resumes they have to look over. I think there ended up being about 25 people left in our group in Sydney.
I can't wait to get that email or the phone call!!!!

Letsfly.... quick q regarding your qantas medical... you said you had to pay for the blood test... Iassume that means you only paid for that and didn't have to pay for the medical?? Just wondering when abouts this was, and was it for QF in Australia, overseas (eg London base), or for an agency in Aus?? Coz everyone who went through the recent QF/MAM recruitment had to pay.. seems a bit unfair if some have to pay and some don't!!

Great to see another one from Syd who made it to finals--I was there too--which one were you??

i had some paperwork that I had to give after my interview on the Wed, and they said to come back by Fri 3pm (the cut off time)...but when I got there at 11am, the concierge told me that they had already left for Dubai at 6am(!!!)--apparently a lot of applicants were coming to give photos/documents thinking they were still there...

I think its good news about that person going for training mid june---it gives me some hope that *maybe* they are somehow fastracking the applications..*fingers crosssed*

Skysista - I only paid for the blood test but this was about two years ago for MAM so I guess it's changed since then. I guess with them recruiting so many casuals they have changed it. Saving money where they can!!

Airbornesyd - I was the tall blonde in a grey suit. How about you?
I had my interview on Thursday arvo and Amelita told me that they had to rush back to Dubai either that night or the next morning. Not sure why. I also had to send a reference through to them in Dubai. It was a pretty crazy week rushing around organising everthing.

I think that happened to alot of people in melbourne too. they made them selves really unavailable.
i had all of 12 hours between the group interview and the one on one and i had to get all the documents ready in that time, i managed to do it but then they told me they wanted better photos and that my suit that i was in didnt show enough of my shape so so i had to do that and drop it off, however when i did at the hotel they were at the reception wouldnt let me leave it coz they could be sure that they would get the info. so i gave it to a friend who was having her one on one the next day. but i'm sure people in melbourne would have had that prob too.
wonder why they had too rush off? weird!

A girl i know jsut went over there in march she didnt have to pay for the medical but spent about $600 on vacinations etc. and it took about 8 weeks for them to contact her, but she through now and flying!
My virgin medical sounds the same as your qantas one.
And we also had in melbourne about 25 left too so sounds like they are looking for 25 in each city they visit. i heard they were taking 60 from each but that might be from each country. who knows!

Question open day activities

Hello everyone

This is my first time posting a msg here and I must say, this forum has so much valuable information for those interested in working for EK, so thank you and thank you. You guys are cool

I have a question for those of you who attended EK open day recently. Oh, I see that some people from Australia are waiting for their results, I hope you get the good news soon! My question is what sort of activities did you have to do at the open day? I've been hearing that instead of the usual group discussions, people were put into pairs and asked to introduce their partner to the group, elimination, and then "just for fun", they had to do a role play of a possible situation on a plane. Now this open day (or assessment day since preliminary selections were done) took place in a non-English speaking country (my home country ) and I am wondering if this is what happened in Australia or any other country where English is the native language. Have they changed the selection method there too? Maybe they have started to do this in countries where English is not the first language because people also have to do an English test and the new selection method will shorten the day? I doubt it but I ask this because I am currently in NZ and I will be attending an open day in Auckland next month! I have been to one assessment day in my country and it was pretty much the same as the ones described on this forum.

61 people were selected in my country and I think it took them about 2 weeks to find out. So I guess it is true that they are planning on recruiting around 60 people in each country.

Hey everyone :)

I'm new to this whole post thing;
i found it out last night; and had a read through for a few hours..
LOTS of info i really appreciate it!

I've applied on-line I think last month for an open-day in AKL,
and got an e-mail telling me about the openday on the 17th of June.

I haven't been to the open-day thing before,
as I hav just turned 21,
and just finishing my last week of Uni off..

Has anyone attended an open-day in AKL before?
Do a lot of people turn up? .. compared to other places?

I wonder how the open-days are run in an native-Eng speaking
country.. as I have heard about some open-days held in places
that speak other languages..

And I'd like to know anyone going to the
open-day next month in AKL-

CheErs!

Hey NZers, one of my best friends, and several of my former colleagues went for the EK assessment days approx 1.5 yrs ago. Three of them got through. One has just recently come home, one is till there and is coming home within the next couple of months and the other came home within two months.

EK was my very first F/A interview way back in 2001, and I am pleased to say I got right through, but at that time I was just doing it for experience, as my dream airline (at the time, have since moved onwards and upwards ) was interviewing a few weeks later.

I could go in to a lot of detail about what to expect, questions asked etc, but, if you go back and read all the previous pages (it may take a while, so sit down and make yourself a cuppa ) there are a few about the Aus/NZ assessment days and what to expect.

From my knowledge, they have not changed, but please correct me if I am wrong.

Good luck and all the very best of you who are going for interviews. I'll be thinking of you .

P.S. PM if you need answers to specific qs and I will see what I can do.

Congratulations to u Letsfly!
I hope everything goes fine and u make it to Dubai!
Its suprising to see that you already got that call
after two weeks of the open-day; cause I read in the
previous posts that it usually takes 4-6weeks to hear
from them after the final interview;
Maybe its changed or they are on the look for
more ccs-

How did the open-day go in Sydney?
Did many people turn up?
Im getting a bit nervous,, only two weeks left
until the AKL open-day
