Most of the EK crew I have seen were very plain.

BTW, just got back from the recruitment day.

Same old stuff, except they're back to the phone call thin gwhich means waiting until tonight.............. and waiting.......... and waiting...........

We had Mervat??? and Amelita. My "interview" was very quick.

I just chatted briefly about her trip to Sydney, then she said "OK that's al I need" Didn't even get a chance to talk about my experience or anything.

Anyonelse there today? Please keep us posted if you get "THE CALL"

Well no call for me either. I am more certain than ever that it is because I am gay. I am not WILDLY camp, but it is still pretty obvious I guess.

qurizen:
With regards to reapplying, if you didn't get beyond today then you can reapply at anytime. They are holding another one next month.

I'm done with EK for a while. I have been to 6 Open Days now, and it seems obvious that I am not what they are looking for.

I'll try again in about a year or so. I'll work hard on my masculinity!

amelita's back? maybe i should of gone

IJWTF, while im trying not to confuse things, just exactly how camp are you? cause i remember from the last one there were at least 2 openly gay dudes that made it to the last round, they werent masculine by any means, friendly guys though. the only gay guy that stood out that didnt make it, was some guy who had from what i remember a yellow tie, but it seemed only half the length of a normal tie. was that you?

i thought his tie looked wierd, and i guess since they judge on first impressions, something like a half mast tie would stand out?

I also attempted to test the EK HR depts uselessness (which from what i hear from crew is very well noted) and ring them up and mention that i hadnt gotten my reply after 6 weeks. unfortunately for me, they were able to find my records quite easy, and even tell me when i got my rejection. all she said after that was "try again in a year and good luck" to hell wit that! im going next month!

i just have to remember next time if i make it to a final stage interview, to show some sort of personality, not freeze up and become a robot

Sorry to hear you didn't get a callback. How many people turned up at the Sydney open day?

I'm quite curious about how everyone describes talking to the recruitment officers as a sort of 'mini interview'. It didn't seem like that at all to me. I just gave Mirvat my resume and that was it, I got the phone call later on.

Anyway, question for everyone: Has EK ever weighed you during an assessment day? The reason I ask is, I'm medically underweight (but by no means unhealthy). Do they only have a thing about overweight people, or do they discriminate against underweight people too? I'd rather not gain weight, unless it's confirmed that EK don't hire anyone outside of the 'ideal weight' range.

inandantia,

like a few of the members, ive been to the odd one or two open days, and i cant remember any weight testing being done at all.
the only time it might become and issue is if you really look unhealthiyl skinny, or when you get your medicals done and they weigh you then.
if thats the case, the week before, just spend everyday at your local macca's :P

letmethink, during the 2on1 interview, i get so caught up worrying about my answers and my bodylanguage and even trying to analyse what the interviewers are doing after each one of my answers, i tend to forget about being me! i turn into some statue-esque (no nervous jitters...CHECK!) monotone machine, and dont make any jokes or show anything like that. i really hate those interviews, i'd like to calm down, but it never works

Interview disussion topics for me

Hello, there. Here are the topics for my recent interview. Hope it is gonna be helpful.
For the first discussion, we were given a situation that there would be a group of 10 disabled Americans with wheelchaires coming to London to spend their weekends. How could you arrage for those two days? Where would you go?
For the second discussion, there is a factory. The workers there are not so motivated and the sales are declining. What activities(2 days) will you hold to motivate your workers? Plus some questions as well: a. most of them have children; b. There are two drunk guys; c. There are more females than males, how will you arrange the rooms during your activities? d. What's your budget?
That's for my first interview. And mine final is tomorrow. Will bring more information after the interview tomorrow. Good luck, everyone!

Cannard: No tha wasn't me. I would never dream of wearing a yellow tie, let alone on that was only half way down my tummy.

I have three tailored Italian wool suits, and I always were a matching tie. My hair is short, and consirvatively styled, my shoes are always sparkling, and my breath never stinks! I put on a small amount of nice EDT, like Bulgari, but not overpowering in anyway. I have professional photos, my resume is clear and consice, yet eligantly designed.

I have always been genuine and friendly when I've spoken with the recruiters. I start with a small amount of chit chat then briefly talk about my experience and skills. I don't think I sound rehearsed, I just go with the flow, cause I never really plan exactly what I'm going to say, but I always communicate things quite effectively.

What is it about me! I'm average build, tall, dark hair, blue eyes, clear skin, tanned, slightly bigger ears than I'd like... Oh sh*t it must be the ears!!!!

It's times like this that I wish they provided a tiny bit of feedback. If there is something about me that they don't want that I can't or won't change then I'd love to know so I don't waiste their and my time. Not to mention the $$ I've speant on parking, shoe polish, ties, printing etc...

Hello!!

full on day today--made it though the group rounds and the psych. test (which a lot of us did!! ) I have my final interview on Wed, so here i am frantically trying to collect all of my papers (cerificates, passport deatils and the like). im mentally exhausted!! but overall the day was good; i was just being myself(though nervous as hell for the 2nd round activities!!) But what is freaking me out, even if we pass the final interview stage, we r not guranteed until we are signed off by Dubai management
ohhh the agony......

Planning to go to DXB for walk-in interview with EK

Anyone could help or give me an advice on my plan applying as male cabin crew for EK this coming october or november?

I am Asian male and was trained as cabin for a few months (A300 to be exact) and worked as passenger service agent/ground steward.

Now, i think Ramadan is on Sept-Oct 2006 and planning to go to DXB and having visit visa after that. Well, i have been informed most of the offices are closed during those days and it will be difficult to apply then.

I am not closing my doors with other opportunities in DXB but i really want an airline job if you would base it from my training and experience.

What do you think? Does EK entertain Asian male cabin crew applicants in DXB? Do they employ candidates having visit visa only?

I Just Want To Fly, i don't think your ears are the cause.. as cannard had mentioned previously, different interviewers have different style and like to recruit different type of people.. i do agree on this..
and i believe most airlines will not reveal as to why you are not selected.. i have heard that the reason is that some people might not be able to take criticism and may do something silly if they know it's something that they cannot change. eg. their character is just not suitable to be a FA.

airbornesyd, good luck for your final interview!

shoon, doesn't EK recruit in your country? if you have seen previous posts.. there are people who travel to another country for the interview, so it shouldn't be a problem for you. however you may want to try applying through their website first?

letmetink, yes EK has recruitment days in my country but i am considering more opportunities if i will be in UAE.

That i could try with other airlines there or even try for a ground staff job.

Red face

Hi there,

My suggestion to u would be just apply through the website first and see how it goes... i mean it would be better if u attended the interview in your home country. however its your choice if u want to go directly to the head office.

Emirates

Best advice is do not go to head office as you will just have to wait till they have a open day for an interview.

They do not have time and will not interview anyone who just rocks up. Also Dubai interviews are always packed.

My advice to you is to find out how many people tend to attend the open days in your area. Some city's have between 500-2000 people and others will only average around 100. If you want to fly to a interview check the countrys around you and read threads to find out where would be your best chance.

Once employed by Emirates they will take care of your Visa.

Good Luck
