Ive always been told that you should only be vaccinated for those once only... but you doctor ahould be able to tell you that.

I got got the phone call and had my results faxed to them in 5 days it took me two days to get all the stuff done, but i was lucky to get this done in that time because of appointments etc.
hope that helps.

Can any Cabin Crew explain the downside of having this kinda job? I'm assuming the long hours, tiring job, living out of a suitcase but what else?

What about your social life perhaps??
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Long hours yes, and for emarites ive heard its alot of night duty.
I'm cc for an airline in oz, and yes it is hard on you body especially in the first 6 months, your tired you body hurts, you sleep alot, then you get use to it!!!
you get to meet heaps of people, no you wont like them all and you have to bite your lip to not say something you dont want to.
yes you do miss out on things like xmas, birthdays, easter etc, but there is oppotunities to get them off. i worked my bday last year, but had xmas off, and easter off too.
i ve missed friends birthdays and with my friends calling me when they are out drunk and i'm in perth or somewhere like that. but you accept it, and remember things like ive seen the whole of australia by age 24.
i went to fiji for $150.00 return of which i took my friend and she got the travel benifits too.
i get 3 to 4 days off in a row sometimes,
ive learnt so much, i earn a good wage and have to chance to make more in a month if i want to.
so yeah, with good comes bad, you social life will be altered a little, and you have to want to do it. hope this helps.

thank you and thank you

sapolski, you are very kind and yes it helps a lot It is so nice of you to come back and give us such valuable information. I will make sure I do the same for everyone else on the forum after my open day. I don't know if I will have the courage to make conversation with the recruiters if they don't ask me anything.. I still have some time so I will try to work on that one. And smiling of course. Thanks again and also to others who provided with info in the previous pages. Good luck to everyone!

how long can i take to do the medicals? is 2 weeks fine for them?
btw, when are you flying to Dubai???
regards!

Hi there!! hahaha..i know..i dont know how I could have made my post on medicals more spritely! Im not sure about the once in your lifetime to get vaccinated, because I know with things like polio & tetanus, you need to get another one evry ten years since the last injection...best check all of that with the doctor since im not one
Took me a week to get everything back as the HIV blood test goes through a lot more laboratory time than your standard blood test. It would also depend on how booked up your doctor & dentist is I suppose. Emirates would understand if the tests would take some time as long as you kept them in the loop. I had some problems with my faxing of results. One email i got from them was confirming they received everything. Then later last night i was told that they hadn't received all of the reports...so its been a lot of rushing around faxing more than I ever have in my life Id be flying out either 29th June or 6th July

Hi,

I made it through to the final interviews and still need to post some photo's and references through to dubai. The recruiters were still in melbourne until this afternoon. I think they were interviewing today as well. My interview was on monday. I hope to have all my docs to them by the end of the week and they said it prob wont be long until i here something as they are notifying people quicker then the stated 4-6 weeks at the moment. so will see what happens, hopefully i get a call soon!!

congrats babe!! how exciting!!!
they called me in about 5days if thats anything to go by, so keep your phone near. if they ring you for a medical they will ring and say they are going ot book you on a flight but you are to get all your meds done before they approve you employment. its costed me about $400.00 already but thats coz i had to get some dental work done to. i was lucky to have gotten into my appointments so quickly so have you dentist and doctors appointments ready to get done.
also you have to get a audiogram report done which was a hassle for me so if your in melbourne let me know and i can give oyu a place where i got mine done and i know a few others have had that done at the same place, its near st.vincents hospital in melbourne.
anyways babe keep in touch!!!

Thanks babe.

I'm actually in Adelaide but ill start looking into where i can get an audiogram done. I don't think i'll be receiving any calls until i get my photo's and references sent to them which will hopefully be tomorrow. Have just been waiting for the photographer to finish the photo's.
Have they given you a date to fly out on yet?

Well if it makes you feel any better about your photos, i had to get mine done 3 times!!!! AND they told me my suit didnt show off my figure enough and i should go get another one!! how funny is that!!! and to this day i still dont knwo if the dam photos are good enough!!!

Yeah i'm out on the 6 july, however thats not confirmation that you have employment wiht them so i havent told my employer yet and in my EBA i have to give 4 weeks notice.

I jsut received a email 2 nights ago asking me to send my HIV and Haemoglobin reports again, and two other girls have to do the same. i have a feeling they are buying time.

I also wrote them an email asking how my appication process was going as my travel date is fast approaching and that i had to give 4 weeks to my employer. they worte back and said that it is still in the process and that they will definately take into consideration how many weeks you have to give your work. so i jsut persume, when they call to say ive got it,(if they do!!!) it will be 4 weeks from there.

What a hassle for you! That's the hardest part i guess. Not knowing when exactly your going for sure. makes it kinda hard to get your life in order before you go! I'm seriously hoping they don't ask me to do my photo's again, they are so expensive to get done and not to mention a hassle. Whats been the biggest pain so far is getting two photo's of myself in a "natural environment". Don't know about you,but i generally don't have photo's taken of me by myself. I cant find one!! It's funny cause you think the hardest part would be the open days and interviews and stuff but this second part is turning out to be harder i think!! Anyway hope they let you know soon for sure so you can get everything organised!

Fly_away, doesn't your EBA have a clause which lets you (by mutual agreement with employer) forfeit the commensurate salary in lieu of notice??? Just a thought...! I'm sure everything will be fine, they probably just misplaced your HIV results in the office.... hapens all the time.. seems MAM did the same thing with a lot of QF applicants recently...!

In the EBA it does state that if we have a mutual agreement, i'm not sure about the salary bit, i know that they are legaly bound to pay me out for my holidays which is 4 weeks that i have left and up until the pay week, sick days defiantely not, however i'm running short on those at the moment! oopps!!!
i'm pretty sure my manager will be fine with it, if i was going to the compatition (eg jetstar, qantas, not that there is anything wrong with them) but they'd be like "why" kinda! but since its emarites they kinda see it as a major stepping stone in your career, which is good. they are preety good with things like that.
i personally jsut dont want to do the wrong thing because ive learnt in this industry someone always knows someone and in the future you never know who you may come across or need for some reason.

Yeah abit anoying!! in the end i just got massive bits of white paper and dressed up and got my friend to take photos and went to a kodak plavce to get my passport size ones done. they havent said anything about getting them done again so i presume they are fine.
i rang photographers, glamour shots and all of those kinda places and no one could do them in the time i wanted.
So my advice to anyone needing photos for the interview get them done before you go. with you in a suit, hair back, makeup on, legs showing with knee length skirt, hands showing jsut at your side.

So very very true!! The world is a small place and the aviation world even more so!!! It's great that some people at least will still try to do the right thing, not everyone is 'all about me!!'

Good onya, hope you get the green light really soon!!!

Why is it so difficult to get invited to an assessment day? I've been trying for ages and even when they came to my home country, I didn't get one

have you applied properly online?? and put photos in your application??
maybe add more into your file, like cater more of your qualifications/previous jobs to cabin crew.
but you can go to the open day without an invite.

Auckland Open Day

I went to the AKL open-day today
Just the same as all the other open days I guess;
It was my first-time to go to an open-day,
I thought there would be heaps of people becoz I heard
that like 300 people turned up at Christchurch,
But at the Auckland open-days not that many turned up;
Around 100? Maybe more maybe less.. around about there I think.
And I think more than half were people from Asia~
The two ladies from Emirates were Kim and Emma (I think.
Kim gave us a brief introduction about the emirates airlines,
about how the open-days work, we watched a video,
had the question answer time, then handed our CVs in
one by one. When I was handing in my CV, they asked
where i got my photos done, and what I'm doing currently.

They said they will ring people who make it through before 6 pm
and I got a call from Emma around about 2 pm!

The next part is going to be tommorow,
so better go to bed early get ready for tomoro!

Is there anyone here who went to the openday in AKL today?
