mother hen

Thanks for providing such helpful information.
I have heard EK is a great employer and I am sure they will well look after us when we reach there. Seems like your daughter is having a good time.
Staying in the hotel doesn't sound that bad. So your daughter would be in the hotel for the whole of her training period it seems.

Hi popins, yes she thinks that she will be there during the training. Obviously its all new to her at mo. She's said the crew that she's met all seem really friendly and the chinese girls are very helpful and never stop smiling! A captain she used to work with at her previous airline flew to dubai yesterday also to work for emirates! The uniform is really lovely, lots of things and she particularly likes the "cute" brown leather hand bag, as she puts it! You get loadsof stuff, a bit different from her last airline! She said the crew on the plane she flew out on were great and kept bringing them(there were 2 other girls with her) extra wine cakes and champagne with strawberries. The crew seemed to work really hard she said. When I get more info from her on the training, I will let you know if you want? Many thanks, mother hen.

Hey Mother Hen!! Sounds fantastic. I can't wait to join. Today they called and pre-poned my friends departure by a week. I wish they call me also...I will be more than happy to go a week before my schedule departure date.

I also like the concept that they give you uniforms in advance. Atleast you don't have to worry what to wear for training everyday. But what happens if you shed weight from the time you reach there and you start flying??

When do they send the contract any idea anyone? Does it come by fedex? I guess that is the next thing i am waiting for now. As much as it sounds exciting but this wait is just tooooo long for me.

Hi popins, my daughter was due to fly out 1st september but emailed emirates and asked if she could go a week later and they said no proplem! She received her contract by email and 4 days before she flew out they emailed her her entry visa and ticket. Not sure bout uniform, my daughter has to have her trousers altered as they are too big around the top! when I get more info from her will let you know, have been phoning her, costing us a fortune! mother hen.

Bucharest october 7

hello, everyone.new on this forum and was wondering if anyone else is thinking of showing up to the Bucharest interview on the 9th.

Also, need to ask experienced crew something: just got laid off by a different airline. Was sick, needed surgery and rest and they chose to let me go even though i am more than fit now.

Should I even bother to show up for Emirates interview? The Airline that let me off (while I was on leave, without notifying me btw) is also arabic. What do u guys think?

Tattoos

Also, would tattoos on both my shoulders be a bad thing?I mean there's no way passengers or anybody else would be able to see them while in uniform.
If I absolutely have to,I guess I would consider having them removed...along with a piece of my soul.
What would I say to the interviewers if they were to ask if I have any distinctive marks on my body?

for mother hen

Mother Hen,

You should be nominated as Mum of the Year for EK CC Wannabe
Thank you for sharing the info ...

So that you will be able to give us more info from the inside, here is a cheap line you can use to call to your daughter in UAE:

Landline: 08713439292, cost 9p/min
Mobile: 08719993939, cost 10p/min

I swear you that I am not a spoke person (it isnt an advert either!) for any of these companies but thought it would be beneficial for every family in the UK whose relative is a Cabin Crew.

So Mother Hen, whereever your daughter will be flying to, you can check the cheap line number thru this website: http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert...cker/index.php and call her to her hotel room.

But for the time being, please, keep us posted with your daughter's training. We surely look forward to your next postings!

Cheers,
Sammy --one of your sons in this forum

Hey Black Sheep, I have a tattoo on my lower back and they didnt seem to have any problem with it. I thought it was interesting how they phrased the question in my final interview...they made it sound like they were asking in case I died and they needed an identifying mark to identify my body. lol. Anyways, I was selected and got through that stage and am now waiting to see if I passed my medicals...so obviously tattoos arent that big of a deal, unless I guess you could see them while in uniform. Hope that helps! I was worried about the same thing.

Hello Elly

Hello Sweety

Bet you have had so much fun on your holidays..^^

I am still working currently till i fly out next Friday. I have received my employment letter about a week ago. On the accomodation they said that they will put you on the aviation college afterwhich a permanent residence will be arranged. So far i reckon they probably ran out rooms so most are putting up at a hotel.

We are also allowed 50kg of baggage. Keep in touch when you arrive in Dubai..See you very soon...

Cheers

I have contacted EK about the accomadation- info and stuff....But I will get more infromation once I get the contract- 4 days before my departure. Why is that? ...Anyway...

I want to ask about the internet in the accomadation? How do we get connected ? How much it cost per month?

Ok, best regards:
Elly[/quote]

verry unhappy!!!

Hi all.
I'm verry unhappy with the forum at the moment. I"m new in here, and I expected people to be friendly and helpful. but I dont seem to be geting the help that I need as no one has bothered to respond to any of my posts.

I've a few troubling doubts/ questions which i want to be cleared... and it wud be really nice if atleast one of u cud help me...

* does your height really matter? what if you can reach only around 210 on tip toes? do they still consider you?

* Do u need to know swimming?

* During your dentals chek up..., does it matter if you have cavities ( obviously it sudn't be visible when u smile... but what if ur molars r affected slightly?) neone who has faced the same prob?

* I dont understand y is it that they ask u if u have any visible birthmarks or tattoes that can be seen when in uniform? i understand dat tatto is not allowed... but birthmarks? wat can u do abt birthmarks....u cant help it , afterall u were born wit it. can someone explain dis to me?

well, i think dats all for now... i dnt wanna ask too many questions and be a bother.

thnks a million...

bye all

GOD BLESS

Geetha

Let me answer your questions one by one:

1) Yes you need to reach 212cms on your tiptoes. During my interview before the first round started (introduction/group round) there was this girl who did her height check. I don't know how she was picked but she was the only who did it at that time. The rest of us did it after the intoduction round. She failed to reach 212cms. I would say she just barely missed it but she was disqualified and did not take part in the introduction n the group discussion.

2)You don't need to know swimming. My recruiter said even if we didn't know swimming we should just say we know. They provide life vest during ditching exercise and so it is not a problem

3) You need to get fillings done if you have cavities. All the dental requirements need to be done at your own expense in your home country. I believe its very expensive in Dubai and so they want you to finish off all this before you come there.

4) Birthmarks if visible in the uniform are not allowed. Yes, i know its not your fault but you are going to be serving passengers. I had this girl with me who made it till the last round and she was brilliant. However, she had a birthmark on her arm and when she showed it to them she was dis-qualified. Again I would say it all depends on the mark...if its small or barely noticeable then it doesnt really matter. In this case, the mark was big and dark brown in color. It looked more like a burnt mark.

Hope this helps a little.

pramugara, thanks for the info I will def try the phone no. Anything that will save me money will be a bonus! Sometimes I have spoken to her at least twice a day! She bought a Dubai sim card just after she got there so will save her money. Just thought I'd mention about baggage allowance, it says 50kg but my daughter ended up with 64kg!! they let her take it though, they never said anything. That was from bhx, not sure about other airports. Not much to report at mo, last night she was sorting out her uniform for grooming class today. It makes me wish I was there! Good luck to all you who will be flying out soon, my daughter will still be doing her training and you might see her there, if so you will have to say hello! Will let you know more when I hear from her, keep forgetting they are 4hours ahead(well 3 at mo)of me in the uk. Mother hen.

Wink Sameangeline/ Geetha

Hi, dear !

I'm very happy for you! And wish you just great moments in Dubai! Hopefully the hotel will be fine...Motherhen said that her daughter is pleased, so I really hope we will be ok too. I'm sending you a PM now.

Hi, Geetha!

I'm really sorry that you got such a bad impression. Most of the people here are friendly, helpful, even mothers (Mother Hen) are helping out here!
I have came across to so many friends , and whatever advise you need, or info, you can always get it! Just ask, we all be happy to help you!
Now:
* About the height- I'm really not sure, but since it is checked on the first interview, I guess it is important for the company.
* Yes, swimming is important!
* If you have cavities, it is no problem, since you put them in order/ adjust them.
* Birthmarks are ok, dont worry. ABout tattos- if they are visible, with uniform- then is a problem.

OK, Wish you good luck!!! And all the best.
ANd dont forget- We will be helping you here!

Elly
