What to do till March 2005? Spend some of that time really considering if EK is a company you wish to work for. It seems to me that they're treating you guys in an abominable manner.

Gee, why couldn't they get their required numbers correct in the first place? It's not rocket science after all. Indicative perhaps of how they treat their personnel?

Plus, do you really want to live in a compound with everything you read having been censored? Wouldn't it be preferable to have a life outside of the environment in which you work? To have friends from a variety of backgrounds not just fellow crew?

I'm sorry if this post offends anyone but I'm amazed at just how many of you think the sun shines out of EK's a*s. Every company has its downside and I encourage all of you who believe EK is the only option for you to seriously take on board the good and the bad.

What to do indeed?

I'll just kick back, work and indulge in hobbies - the gym, rugby, paintball, travel, beer. I have a good job in HK (in fact all my friends say I'm nuts to give it up for flying, even when I say that's really what I want to do) so I can afford a few local trips and I have 3 weeks of holidays to use before I finish up.

We should at least know where we stand in a couple of months: that is, we'll have a start date or some kind of indication to tie us all over. All I can say is, I sure hope I'm in the first intake in March because I can't stand another summer of waiting around for my new life to start next year.

No confirmation Elena but that's the general belief. I myself have given up hope that anything will happen this year. Next year who knows?

yea elena, I'm waiting for these 3 months to pass and then see what they tell us.. I am sure they will be very explicit on whether we are going or if they're going to start hiring all over again.. I believe they won't put us holding any longer..

Cheers..

If English is your native language then it doesn't matter if your grades aren't great. Howevere they'll look at your background and work history when selecting for an interiew if your academic record is nothing to get excited about. Once you get past prelim selection and into the first (group) interviews the rest is up to you. So submit your reply and if you're invited to an interview yoiu can assume you have the right qualifications at least. the personality and character will come out in the selection process.

Iain,

If you read through recent posts you will see that EK are unlikely to respond to your e-mail application in the usual timeframe as the recruitment process appears to be on hold indefinately.

I work with several girls whose applications are on hold and they are climbing the walls waiting for some news!

My advice is to put it on the backburner and not hassle them for a response as this may not go down too well. The general concensus is that you will be waiting a WHILE...

is the hiring freeze also valid for non cabin/cockpit crews? I have an application pending since end Mayu, went through the psychometrics/interview and was told first the decision would be communicated early July, then early September, then... no news anymore. This was a position related to new terminal/concourse, thius a 'ground sticking' one. Tx

Heres the latest: sep 20 and I'm still waiting

"Further to our last communication regarding your application for the post of Cabin Crew. We wish to inform you that your application is still active and that we still have an interest in your candidature. We regret that there is a delay in moving ahead with your application at this stage due to the large number of applications we have on hand, but be reassured that we will be back in contact with you as soon as we are able. Our aircraft fleet is still set to more than double in the next 7 years, and this will require many 1000's of new Cabin Crew that we need to hire.

We will communicate with you in the next two months to give you more information about the status of your application and would appreciate if you could update us if any changes occur in your personal information and contact details.

We also encourage you to visit our website www.emiratesgroupcareers.com for information on Emirates Group and Dubai as a lifestyle destination.

We wish to thank you once again for both your patience in awaiting further information on your application, and for your continued interest in joining Emirates."

****I take this as a good indication that there will be no more courses till March. they'll probably keep us on the string like this with a 'please wait' letter every couple of months until then.

Guess we're in the same boat then. I did my final in May and I think that was around the 'cutoff' point for people like us. It was shortly after they told us we passed that they realised they couldn't fit us in. Everyone who had interviews in June/July has either been told 'no' or not given an answer yet.

Don't worry Elena. If you were disqualified, they'd have told you already. If they're keeping you waiting then sooner or later they'll tell you you're in. I just hope I go first, LOL!

I don't wish to sound negative, but as you haven't actually signed a contract with EK yet, don't count your chickens that you'll actually be going......

If I sound overly optimistic it's because I've already decided I'm going anyway. Come March I will have spent a year waiting on EK to rescue me from my mundane job and disappointing existence in Hong Kong.

Backup plan: save my money, line up another job overseas and be gone by the end of March anyway. If they disappoint me, I certainly won't be moping around this town dreaming of escape any longer - it's already proven to be a failed experiment.

If there's one good thing EK has done it's give me clarity and a goal. One way or another now there is light at the end of the tunnel. I'll wrap up my contract, collect my savings and bonus and move on to some of the adventures I plan to have while I'm still young. It's a breath of fresh air.
