Just a note about languages...

Languages - ??? maybe, i dont have any other languages. but definatelly it would help.
It will definitely be an advantage when it comes to being in Dubai, living with people from other countries.... but time and again it's been emphasised at open days that you do NOT have to have a second language (besides English if you're not a native English speaker) and it will NOT work against you if you only speak English...

All training is conducted in English and if not an English speaker by birth you are not allowed to use your native language/chat with others in any language other than English while on duty (this of course does not apply with pax who only speak that language!!)

I have seen parts of the intro manual etc and it's quite plainly stated in the rules...

Hope this clears things up!!!

HELLO..I'm new...

Hi All,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the info on this forum!! You all are the greatest and strongest support system, and it was nice to read on everyone's experience with Emirates! I will let you in on my journey with them so far....

So I attended an open day here in Kelowna, BC, CANADA last weekend I was a bit surprised that they came to a small city, usually its just the large ones. When I got there, it was me and about 20 others, did a height test, watched a video, then I got pulled out to do a 2min interview. After that they gave me a letter stating I was successful and going on to the next stage of the recruitment and selection process. So here I am anticipating, getting so anxious, and prepared for this saturday to arrive!!

Thanks to all of you in the forum, I have gained so much insight and information, that I am feeling a bit more prepared and confident, if I make it throught the day, there is final interviews the next day apparently.... I want this so bad, and I hope to meet you all in Dubai!!

Thanks Again

MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS

hi,
firstly, let me tell you that i think this forum is great!
I had my final interview with Emirates, passed it (I guess)
as last week they called me from Dubai and asked me when I can join and for which date they should book the ticket for me...they also emailed me a list with the medical examinations i need to go through...
i am still not sure...if they tell you to do the medicals, that means that theoretically you got in (if medical check-ups are fine). is that right???
or can they still reject you???i know that the senior managemenet has to still give approval...what do you think???can anyone tell me???

Congratulations! and yep, i guess theoretically it means you are in...management would have seen your file to then aprove you for the prelim medical.. i think the only way you cab't get in now is if you are "unnaceptable" with any of your test results (all stated on the medical forms). Bear in mind the main thing is not to have any infectious blood diseases, otherwise, youre pretty much in! Have fun with the medicals...they take some time to get done. Please feel free to ask me any questions, as I am just going through the process myself

you think if i once more make it to the final interview, that i should perhaps partake in a little drinky before going in? haha might help me loosen up!

I LOVE THIS FORUM!

Hi everyone,
I can not actually believe that I registered so i can participate in this forum, considering I am so technology illiterate!
but i just want to say this forum is amazing... and it makes me feel so happy that everyone's so nice that they want to help one another!
I applied online last week at the emirates website, and I am from Sydney but I still have not received an email for the open day. after reading all the messages I might actually pop in anyway...
BUT there is one thing. I am still in the middle of my studies at university! I am currently doing a combined degree which means that i could be in uni for another 2 years! although I am actually willing to just drop down to one degree if I got an offer to fly for the Emirates. But even then I think it will still be another year from graduation
Do you think I should still apply? perhaps will they be impressed that I am that keen? or do you think I should wait til next year when my graduation is on the cards.
Otherwise, if they like me enough will they 'defer' my offer til I finish my studies??
in addition, do you think having a degree will be a disadvantage/advantage?? I have spoken to someone who applied to the Emirates, but they said that they dont necessarily want rocket scientists! (not that i am one!!)

Cons of Flight Attendants

Ok, so we can all the see the benefits of being a Flight Attendant and primarily, working for the Emirates group.

But with every pro there is a con....

Can any Cabin Crew explain the downside of having this kinda job? I'm assuming the long hours, tiring job, living out of a suitcase but what else?

What about your social life perhaps??

schu9648 in my opionion, wait till your graduation is near

1) why go for it now if you have to tell them you can't take the job for ages?
2) you'll be a little older and wiser by that point, and that's always advantageous

thanx

thanks yvo84...
i think your right, besides even if i have the potential to get through the stages they will soon realise through going through my resumee that I will not be able to sign the contract immediately cos of my study obligations!
so ive decided that im only going to go if i get an invitation! besides im meant to be studying for my mid year exams anyway! all of this is interview things are extremely distracting!!

Hi guys,

I recently attended the melbourne open day and made it through to the final interviews. I have no doubt that it can largely be attributed to this forum and all the help and information everyone gives! If anyone would like some information on what the processes were or what kind of questions were asked, feel free to send me an email and i'll help where possible!

Good luck to all those with open days coming up!!

congratulations

to you, sapolski!
I remember reading your post about going to the Melbourne Open Day and it's really great to hear that you have made it to that stage! I am sure you will be hearing the good news soon. Bravo, well done
I do have some questions for you though, hehe

1. Was the day pretty much the same as the one desribed by fly_away?
2. When you were handing in your CV, what sort of questions were you asked?
3. Did you also have to wait for them to give you a call later during the day to attend group discussions the next day? Or did you get given a letter?
4. In the first group discussion, did you have to introduce your partners? Or did you introduce yourselves to the group?
5. What discussion topics did you get?
6. Lastly, do you know how many people turned up and how many actually made it to the final stage?

I am sorry, I have so many questions to ask. I am going to the Open Day being held in Auckland this Saturday and I just want to be sure of the things I can expect to happen on the day. I am going mainly for the experience since I've decided to try to be as open-minded as I can with regard to choosing my career, but I will try my best nonetheless, Emirates is a good company without doubt. There is always the next open day I can attend if I don't succeed this Saturday. I am really looking forward to it, hopefully I will have the chance to meet people and just have fun. Personally, this will be my second open day experience, in fact fourth if I count the preliminary interviews as well. Good luck to everyone attending EK open day this week! Seems like there are a few of us on the forum

Hi,

Yes the day was pretty much the same as what fly_away described, when i handed in my cv they actually didn't ask me anything i made conversation with them. I did hear them ask a few people though why they wanted to work for emirates. Once i handed in my cv i left and they called about 4 later on that afternoon. The next day one of the first excercises we did was introduce the next person next to you. They gave us a couple of things to find out about the person and then we had to stand and repeat what we had learnt. Can really remember the group discussions exactly but it the first discussion was along the lines of choosing ten people we wanted to invite to a dinner and choosing the theme for the dinner. Obviously they just walk around assessing how everyone interacts with other people. The second discussion was a scenario regarding a business. We had to choose a team building excercise for work colleagues to participate in, keeping in mind that some people have children and that two of the employees were known for their drinking. Then it was on to the psychometric testing. I think there was around 80 people at the open day, about 60 then next day for testing with around 20 at the end. Like the recruiters said, they have no quota's at the moment. They are not recruiting a certain amount. They are putting forward as many as they feel are suitable.

I hope this information helps. Like everyone has said in this forum, just make sure you smile, are friendly and chat to everyone and just be yourself. Make sure you participate in the group discussion but don't be too dominant. Good luck and i hope it all goes well for you!!
