Ok.

Well, look mate, it's cooling off here...it was 30 C, so I'm going outside to drink a few Crown Lagers and contemplate life. When I've done that maybe Mel will have posted.

Catch ya later!

How about this:

We've got our beers and wine outside the conservatory - it's several degrees colder outside than the fridge!

Almost two hours since your last post.

Tinnies or bottles? - how many so far?

Noyade

Four bottles.

Lot of mozzies outside and there's a locust problem...

I only have 20% blood flow to my lower left leg.

I've lost the plot! You at home on a PC Martin? Or on that Berry thing?

We have a Telstra T-Hub that has internet access which you can use around and outside the house....but I find it too small and difficult to navigate. I don't know how you manage it on a phone.

Not any more mate!

I Just got home and have got to prepare something to eat, but thinking about your challenge while so doing. I see you rebutted Martin's suggestions of French in German as you have just done on WC, I await your response to sycamore with interest!

There's a lot of dihedral there for a high winger and an apparently high position for the pilot. One seat or two and no passengers? It has the look of the twenties about it, anywhere near?

Edited to say I've just seen your WC response, rather as I suspected as you did greet Martin first thing in the same manner, so it's just "German Mode" (too much talking to das auto)!

So is this one not German too, is it North American ?

Lightning Mate
23rd Dec 2010, 19:20
It's a Yank mate. :)

Good Morning LM,

Not right now thanks; the player (??) might get Yawn Coupling and Roll over in bed (especially the Dutch ones (where has Ton got to??)).

How's the pin,; did the PK+ZZzz work OK?

Edited to say new Page

Lightning Mate
24th Dec 2010, 07:21
If lateral stability > directional stability = Dutch roll

If directional stability > lateral stability = spiral instability (spiral dive)

As altitude increases, lateral stability decreases at a lower rate than directional.

Therefore propensity to Dutch roll increases with altitude and spiral instability decreases.

Well, you almost asked........

Sorry - crossed posts :\

No, no, it's a Jaguar on none. My Martin Baker tie reckons so.......

SincoTC
24th Dec 2010, 16:39
Well done Ken,

I'm glad my absence didn't unduly hamper your search, it is indeed the Dobkevicius D.III a Fighter, its designer Jurgis Dobkevicius had built two similar aircraft, but died in the D.III when he hit trees while landing two years after its first flight in 1924. The aircraft showed excellent performance and 185 were built for the Latvian Air Force.

Happy Christmas Day to all Silhouette Challengers and "Lurkers" from The Stig
:ok::ok::ok:

Skytrain's current Challenge; initial thoughts of seaplane were tempered by the two-blade, wide chord prop and the large aileron deflection, prompting thoughts of something small and twitchy and could that be an aerial on the fin? So a sub-scale model of a project or maybe a UAV.

Searched on that hunch and came up with Warrior (Aero-Marine) Gull 36 UAV

Sorry guys, but I have to love you and leave you; it's an early start of visiting friends and relations and I won't be back 'til late tonight, therefore, please declare Open House if skytrain confirms. Y'all have a great day!!

Good evening Graeme,

I hope you had a Good Christmas!

We're screwed!

Probably; but never underestimate the ability of our boys to grab defeat from the jaws of victory!! Although, they would have to be pretty bad to do that now.

Yes, it was my clue, 'coz there was nobody about!

Another snippet it's from Western Europe and still exists

Edited to say Bugger; looks like I missed him; there must be a lot of Bond movies on the box tonight :) !

Snippet answers your PM LM

Hoping your trip concludes in a safe and reasonably timely manner.

RegDep
27th Dec 2010, 17:53
Hallo Sinco. OK. Not that devious. Then less. Let's see.

Travel was OK considering the weather. Only some two hours delay on a scheduled six hour trip, which would be considered a success these days, I should say. And the German Bundesbahn will pay back 50% of the fare because of the delay. Travelers' Rights, you see!

A lot of widgets on the nose of the challenge, by the way.

Or are they gadgets? Too old to tell the difference, I am.

SincoTC
27th Dec 2010, 18:01
Welcome home (I presume) Reg,

That journey doesn't sound too bad, considering the weather, and the refund from the Bundesbahn eases the pain I imagine :)

A pretty standard three-cylinder radial is responsible for the widgets!

Edited to say:

Well Reg, your light still on, but I don't know if you're still about!

I'm just having a few beers and watching an Agatha Christie detective movie on the TV, so I'll be here for quite a while yet if you want to try casting a little bait before I doze off!!

I would say, knowing as I do about what's on the net on this little 'plane, that finding its country of origin is almost essential. So don't forget it's from Western Europe.

RegDep
28th Dec 2010, 07:25

Guten Tag Reg,

No apologies required mate!

Was this a clue, too?

It was in a way; referring to our fellow player from Wales (skytrain10) who "discovered" a certain very usefull Belgian website!

Possibly my last clue (beer and fictional detective) stirred memories, as I know you also found the site chasing one of skytrains challenges.

Well done! It is indeed the Kreit Lambrinck KL 2 (OO-ANP) :D

Thanks Sinco.

In fact, I was somehow transfixed to the Principalities and thought the only principality where an aircraft would have been built and an aviation museum would exist were Luxembourg (not Monaco, Andorra, Liechtenstein, nor San Marino). As there were none in LX, I wondered what would be another inconspicuous (:E) country and looked at Swiss and Belgian Aviation museum lists. Beer, facial hirsutism (I think thats what Agatha Christie called it), cloak or magnifying glass I had overlooked.

I don't think LM has anything for me now, so Open House, while I will send something to him.

Thanks Reg; that's why I said it was a clue only "in a way", it was really a coded message to LM.

Had you been around I would have phrased it differently, as skytrain's profile only mentions Pembrokeshire and although he has discussed the weather in Wales recently, the term Principality is rather obscure for a non-UK national, but you were away at the time and I thought that the challenge would be solved before your return, especially as skytrain had put in an appearance earlier!

Sorry for any confusion, but at least you did get there ultimately!!

Be aware that Graeme has "threatened" to return today :) too; so we may get a response to your Open House!

Evening Graeme,

Japanese or Russian?

Seriously?!

'fraid so mate; got a painful tendon condition, PKs' don't work so build up natural endorphines while awake, they give two good hours ZZZzz, then they're exhausted and it's awake for half hr to build 'em up again, sleep ten and so on 'til time to get up. Been like it for 25 years, got used to it now!

Suits me though, listen to plenty of radio and think all those years most people spend unconcious that I get to make use of! :E

Guten Tag Reg, a timely poke of the Wizard :ok:

I'm intrigued as to what is hanging between the left engine and the fuselage, cuz it ain't a tank - they're outboard.

Is it possibly a manned/unmanned missile?

Not sure mate...the photo is on the net. No tricks. No missiles. I'll go back to Wiki and try to find out...

In that case something is very strange about it.Actually I agree, didn't notice it before. There is photo of it on the Wiki site in a museum and the same thing is visible. It looks nacelle/undercarriage door, but not seen on the starboard side....

Mitsubishi?

Not Mitsubishi mate.

That's because it's a single door, not the more usual double.

Good night Graeme!

For the morning:

At least you identified the lizard silhouette!

In Saigon we had gekkos always on the wall, chirping like small birds (I was not on anything then :O)

That undercart door still looks odd to me compared to the starboard side?
Well, if you look one from port side the starboard side looks the same way :ooh:.
