That's him! :ok:

His chief pilot, Louis Noel, used it to set up a world load-carrying record, by flying with nine passengers for nearly 20 minutes.

Bonjour Richard,

Just a hurried lunch-time shot; is it a VL-Tuisku or Viima ?

Seeing as there was only one built, it seems more likely to be a VL-Paarma, but I can't find any images at the moment and it's back to work now, so Open House please in the unlikely event that I'm correct.

Lightning Mate
25th May 2010, 14:32
I can't see any wheels on this thing.

Did it have skis?

Bradenav
25th May 2010, 14:46
Sorry ,neither Tuisku nor Viima nor Paarma ,but it's right :it is on Skis.

Lightning Mate
25th May 2010, 15:07

How about a VL machine, a Tuisku?

Bradenav
25th May 2010, 15:43
It's going fast !

The swastika is NOT red ,but BLUE.
It's NOT Russian.
It's NOT a Valmet (or V.L).

Good Luck

Richard

Ridge Runner

Bonjour Richard,

Following your very good but subtle clues; I now believe that your Challenge shows the Sk 10 Trainer version of the Raab-Katzenstein RK-26 Tigerschwalbe, originally designed by Gerhard Fieseler and built for the Swedish airforce, one was later donated to Finland for the "Winter War" campaign.

Sk10 RK-26 Tiger-Schwalbe (http://www.avrosys.nu/aircraft/skol/410Sk10.htm)

Just found your image here!

F19 in the Winter War (http://www.saunalahti.fi/~fta/f19-1.htm)

It's an early start this morning and a busy day ahead, so please declare Open House if you agree with my findings.

Bradenav
26th May 2010, 07:15
:ok: Congratulations SincoTC :ok:

You say " very good but subtle clues "

Very kind words ,I didn't give much clues : Only "German designed ,in Finnish service "

American?

G'day Mate.

American it was.

Poor quality photo means a "rare" manufacturer, otherwise I was thinking Curtiss?

Lightning Mate
26th May 2010, 07:51
I've "silhouetted" the photo, but it wasn't very good in the first place.

I had never heard of the manufacturer, but it's not a Curtiss.

Noyade
26th May 2010, 07:51
Ok then....

Lightning Mate

To be precise, 1916.

Noyade
26th May 2010, 08:23
Well, I've got some serious googling to do as I have the first American bomber listed as the Martin GMB of 1918?

Lightning Mate

Noyade

Lightning Mate
26th May 2010, 08:42
From Rosebud.

Lightning Mate
26th May 2010, 09:10
I've just discovered it's also in Aerofiles.

I've been playing with image a bit, and that uniform looks like a very old version of the British Post Office.

So is it by any chance British?

Noyade
26th May 2010, 11:15
Yes, British and he does work for the Post Office.
This is a rehearsal at Hendon for the 1911 Coronation mail service that was to start a few days later.

Lightning Mate
26th May 2010, 11:24
That's a big clue, but Google and I are having an argument. :\

Lightning Mate

The planes used were two Bleriots and a Farman

Noyade

Artnoon LM,

It's lunchtime, but I've got half an eye cocked on NasaTV watching the Shuttle Atlantis make it's last deadstick landing and listening for the double boom as it arrives in the area, there's about eleven minutes to go!

I'll have a crack at your "Big Brother" post at tea break, doesn't it seem a long time ago now?

TC

Lightning Mate

You're right there, it did have a three-bladed prop, but I didn't notice the sleeker cowl :\ It does look like it's the Lockheed YP-24, but the Altair XP-900 seems to be an AKA for the P-24 !

Gotta go now, good hunting!
