Hope he's truthful in that one. I don' t buy his "no clue" in his cosmetics-laden litany on "black silhouettes appear invisible pink background black image sea of pink absorption (Max?) Factor". Catwalk stuff, if you ask me. Only Elizabeth Arden is missing there.

Curtis Travel Air 16E, Women in the Wind (Warner Bros 1939) starring Eve Arden (Visible Difference Cosmetics) :8

EDIT: I had Yokosuka but I abandonded it, no idea why. Looked too short, maybe, but lots made

Thanks skytrain and LM,

I suppose now I'll get all the flack about being able to see the sodding image in the first place!!

I though Graeme was often about at around this time, just before hitting the hay?

Dunno if it's right yet, but if you goggle it, I think the SC is in the top row of images! Break over now so back to work and it's just started raining again, so no front steps finished today

Thanks Graeme,

Just enough clues ;)

I hope the factory is OK

It is mate, thank you, busy day and rain stopped play a couple of times, but good progress on the new works.

Just off home now and managed to get some images off to LM.

I declared an Open House in my post, dunno WTF RR's post is all about though!! My guess is that he came in and saw Reg's time for the end of the 500 minutes and thought that was the expiry of the guideline rule and therefore it was OH after that time and so rushed to put a challenge up before anyone else did, hence his comments about the timing :)

Now that Graeme has correctly confirmed my answer (sorry about the 500 mate :p), I will again say that it's an Open House as of now!

I guess that Martin's challenge is invalid at the moment 'coz Graeme hadn't confirmed as LM pointed out above, so maybe he could delete it and repost it (if nobody else beats him to it). Is that how you all see it?

Seeya tomrrow guys, sort it out and keep it rolling :ok:

skytrain10

Totally stuck on this one so far - admittedly haven't had the opportunity to spend much time. My first thought was Morane Saulnier (swept parasol wing) but lots of similar designs save for the tail which looks like it came from a Hawker Fury! :ugh:

RegDep
20th Nov 2010, 16:56
How about Gloster Goral

skytrain10
20th Nov 2010, 17:23
How about Gloster Goral
Well I hadn't thought about a biplane but guess it could be - but not a Goral (not that I can find a side view) but the undercarriage and wing struts are wrong.
gloster goral | bristol jupiter | 1927 | 0567 | Flight Archive (http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1927/1927%20-%200567.html)
But one thing - the tail is however very Glosterish so you could be on to something. Think I am going to look through some books over a glass of wine to seek inspiration!

skytrain10
20th Nov 2010, 17:38
I can't see any Gloster aircraft that match - just looked at Armstrong Whitworth - some very similar, but nothing matches.

RegDep
20th Nov 2010, 17:40
How about Gloster Gatsnapper II, then Gloster Gnatsnapper (http://www.airwar.ru/enc/fww1/gnatsnapper.html)

I mean Gaosnappers were made with different tailfins, but they were one-seaters and the challenge looks like two seater.

skytrain10
20th Nov 2010, 17:50
Ignoring the tail, aren't they all single seaters? Also the upper wing chord is too small.

Edit - sorry wasn't reading what you said properly - yes I'm assuming the challenge is a 2 seater.

skytrain10
20th Nov 2010, 17:59
Think I am going to look through some books over a glass of wine to seek inspiration!
That hasn't worked - time for a 2nd glass!

I don't think its American - I'm really only saying that because I don't want to go through Aerofiles!

RegDep
20th Nov 2010, 18:42
I know what you mean. NY-2 has different tail. But there are similar tails :suspect: there.

Edit; There are also other Hawkers from Hart to Audax to Hartebees to Demon to Hardy to Hind to Osprey. Some of them were licence manufactured and used radial engines, too (like the ones from ASJA in Sweden)

Is your challenge easier than we think or just hopeless? You won't find in places like Aviastar or Airwar if that's what you mean. But it is on other sites, including Flight.

However this aircraft was incorrectly suggested for a challenge earlier this year. So evidently someone else had come accross it.

Yes, correct:ok: The Nakajima G5N Shinzan (Mountain Recess), code named Liz.
As the aircraft was based on the Douglas DC-4E, early on, it was designated as the 4EB.

I note that this aircraft was posted as a challenge back in August. Sorry.

That easy?! Well, that's disappointing to learn, in a way. I remember Sinco saying he got my Spad based on the "60" number I gave?

Must be time to stop giving out production numbers then?! :E

(Reg, ask Ken how many of his challenge were built!)

No, not at all - nothing to thank for!

My advice to you is that you put "racer" into Aerofiles search engine. Will keep you busy for the shift - I can take over on my morning.

Not really kidding - you might find it - I did not go with that. Some combinations, though. In vain, too.

So, see you in the morning; I am rather sure that this challenge does qualify for Noyade anything-but-not-very-many-built challenge.

Its alright mate, you can ask me, I won't mind! The answer is I don't know (Aerofiles doesn't quote a number), but at least one.

Mate, Mrs Ken is trying to give you a coronary!
Now you should have read further down - don't think I could cope with that sort of breakfast anymore!

RegDep
22nd Nov 2010, 08:09
Babcock LC-13A racer LC-13, LC-13A aka Babcock-Vlchek X Airmaster, Taube, and Taubman Zephyr

:( Hi David..... Didn't notice that you were awake.....

An epitome of wasted work:

Was there yesterday but looked at the first picture only: Completely different looking a/c.

Had searched for 1pOmwM racer: the text says "was modified as OmwM racer": Missing number leaves this out. The "original" a/c has a canopy 2pCmwM.

Tried to search other race-related words (was convinced that it was a racer), e.g. "Midget racer". Nix.

Ken comes up with a clue (Aerofiles doesn't quote a number), but at least one.
Me, poor bastard think that it means by search terms '-POP:' proximity chapter = word 'POP': is not mentioned in the same chapter as 'racer'....
Now the chapter says "POP: uncertain but [NR998W] was modified as OmwM racer." Nix.

AND: The Taubman LC 13 1pOmwM did not have a picture....

So how did I find it. Feel free to ask.

(One answer is: too late.:8)

I doubt it... need to check.

In 1938 three of them participated in a round trip of the parent country, a total of 1087 kms

Not that I can see. It seems that only 7 of the 12 ordered were built and they flew in civilian guise pre-war, after the initial delivery to the National Guard.

Thanks mate!

It was a nice easy one. Thanks. Makes me wonder, maybe more people would play this thread if we added the odd easy one every now and again? (In fact maybe I shouldn't have answered it?!) The other thing is it would fill a lot of gaps in Mel's list which shouldn't exist.

Here's an easy one in return. The Statue is somewhere in London....
