My personal view is that Russia, the Soviet Union before it, has no place lecturing other nations on how to protect their minorities given their own track record of forced resettlement, assimilation and prohibition of traditions. Adding the Sami and Karelian peoples onto the list, among others, I'll consider my tuppence spent.

According to a defence source, the UK has offered to conduct "logistics operations" to support the delivery of the donations after the Ukrainian president called for more aid. Not sure what that will entail….

American Express has just blocked the accounts of all Russian card holders worldwide. Won’t affect most Russians but it will hit all the billionaires and their families who are black card holders who spend millions a week….

Mods - is there any way to get the various threads on the current war in Ukraine merged? They are mostly all saying the same stuff and it gets confusing as to which thread you have been contributing to.
Whichever way this goes do you think this is going to bring more pressure on the formation of a European armed forces? Quite amazed they haven’t had one already.
Wouldn’t have a huge overhead as units could just be rotated in and out from member countries. I guess the main stumbling block would be that these forces wouldn’t be under the control of their own governments but under the control of the EU. I suppose like a European Nato. Any attack on one member is an automatic attack on all.
