On the contrary, this is scene setting for the Russian people, explaining why mobilisation is not going to happen, and is evidence that Putin will NOT be announcing general mobilisation, and also won't be declaring war. Both of these would be severely problematic for him, the former because it would be hugely unpopular and the latter because it would put control of military operations out of his hands. He's also probably aware that mass mobilisation would create too big an instrument with significant power that could easily turn against him.

Loitering is a bad idea.
if you watch it they appear to be offloading supplies.

A bunny hop you don't want to be doing, especially in a T-80U tank.

I am surprised Russia does not let the military and wounded evacuate from Mariupol to Ukraine, because until they are no longer there they cannot claim to control the city, which is important to them for the 9th May, however from a Ukrainian point of view I suppose them remaining until the 10th is an advantage.

Of course they can. They are already claiming that Ukraine is full of Nazis who are genociding the Russian speakers. This would be a pretty minor addition. They claim anything they want, and evidently the Russian public lap it up. Who needs truth?

That explosion of the SPG was very dramatic, there will be a few dead and indeed deaf gunners as a result. There did not seem to be any ranging shots either, so highly accurate if artillery counter battery fire. If this is the result of the new NATO supplied artillery then a lot of Russian artillery men maybe joining there T72 comrades on the train / plane home in a body bag. Also as an observation there skills at concealment were also remarkably poor, as they had obviously run one of the SPG,s into the field in the foreground leaving heavy track marks indicating their presence. By comparison I read how German tank crews in Normandy carefully backed armour into position at night and then realigned any damaged vegetation due to worries about fighter-bombers before daylight. Old skills needing to re taught.

Cheers
Mr Mac
My Father (reserved occupation, shipbuilding) was a sergeant in the home guard during 39-45. In the early 50's he still had his basic training books about concealment from aerial reconnaissance, including all the above stuff. Isn't it what any squaddie learns while square bashing?

It appears the Crimea Bridge is on the Ukrainian target list.

"We do not have such weapons for this yet. More precisely, we do, but we need to move much closer to the coast of the Sea of Azov," said Viktor Andrusiv, an adviser to the Interior Minister."

Taking the bridge down to coincide with the 9th May parade would be a nice touch if they could do it.

Only problem for the Russians is that neither honest reporting from the field nor acceptance of the real facts by the upper echelon is likely, so any "lessons learned" have little promise of being helpful. (good news)

Fill a ship with some stuff that goes BANG.....and ram it into the structure...light the fuse and jump into your RIB and hightail out of the area.

Did not a similar thing happen in France using an old American Destroyer modified to look like a German Frigate by some RN and Commandos?

Germans didn't have ASV radar at the time and the British didn't have to get past a Major German Naval Surface Fleet base to get to the target. Wasn't a butt load of Enemy surface merchant ships lurking about either.

Delightful thoughts, one could only hope. But this man hasn't shown a lot of wisdom, only hateful resolve.
