Putin terminally ill, and beginning to think what legacy he might leave behind him, isn't necessarily good news ...

I think Erdogan is merely using his chance to extract concessions, quid-pro-quo or whatever you want to call it. He has a position of power and will use it to get what he wants. How can one blame him - other people seem to be causing **** about treaties at a time when you might expect some unity because presumably they see a chance for advantage now so why wouldn't he?

I do wonder if Russian cancer treatment, if that what it is, is up to the Western standards. It would be ironic if in isolating himself from the west he has accelerated his own demise. We can but hope.

BREAKING: Russia has suspended electricity exports to Finland.

Finland currently gets 10% of its electricity from Russia. Inter RAO, Russia's largest electricity company, will no longer supply power to Finland due to problems in receiving payments, the Finnish company Fingrid announced on Friday.

Inter RAO's Finnish subsidiary, RAO Nordic Oy, said the export will be suspended as of Saturday. . The Finnish operator stressed that the electric network is not under threat, saying: "In recent times, imported electricity from Russia has covered approximately 10% of Finland’s total consumption."

Reima Paivinen, senior vice president of Fingrid, said: “The lack of electricity import from Russia will be compensated by importing more electricity from Sweden and by generating more electricity in Finland."

Hmmm, I wonder what they might want?

Turkey has wanted to be a member of the EU for some time. Tricky, Turkey in the EU for Finland & Sweden in NATO... Not sure about that. There are various concerns about things like human rights, Cyprus, adjacency to Iran, Iraq, Syria.

Whatever they want, one might guess the Kurds will somehow end up as a silent non-voting, non-invited member of negotiations.
The best they can hope for is having a choice as to which Bus to be tossed under.

I agree, and what they do not seem to understand is that threatening countries with energy and cutting it off simply means those countries will never put themselves into that situation again, so when this sh*tstorm eventually blows over and sanctions ease, their chances of resuming those energy sales that prop up their economy will have gone.
Yes they can flog it to the likes of China and India, but no longer being able to play the price structure off against the likes of Europe to get the best price means those remaining markets may say will pay this or go elsewhere.

The reason given us that Finland has not paid the bill for the last lot of electricity. Of course, if Finland learns to do without the 10% from Russia, they are far less likely to go back as a customer in the future unless the deal is advantageous to them.

The Russian electricity export to Finland is roughly 800MW. The new Finnish Olkiluoto 3 nuclear plant opening this summer is 1600MW and there is wind power construction worth of 2800MW going on in a couple of years time span.

The Russians can keep their energy.

Ukraines defence minister Oleksii Reznikov is planning to bring a million men and women in arms.
They are really looking to make the 3:1 outnumbering to throw the invaders out of country. I love their commitment, we as west need to provide the hardware.

Ukraine’s goal is to “restore our sovereignty and territorial integrity within the internationally recognised borders”, he said.
Reznikov added that he was “focusing on the need to provide for one million people who will be facing the enemy”.

The Russian State Duma has proposed that after the Invasion of Ukraine, that Poland be Invaded and denazified next due to their clear Support for “Nazi Elements” in Ukraine and around the World while also providing Aid to Ukraine that results in the death of Russian Troops.

It may sound insane, but Russian combat helos are keeping their looted domestic appliances on board, because they’ve heard the Russian postal service are - in turn - looting everything they’re sending home by mail and courier services…

It appears the play book in Kherson is the same one the Germans used on the Jewish population during WW2.

There are now many Russians in Kherson who arrived for the 9th May parade. Many of them now work at the market and sell Russian products. My friend says that when they go out now they don’t see familiar faces. Russians are arriving to replace Ukrainians and live in their homes.
This sort of thing is going on all over Kherson. For example, a story of a Russian person moving into an apartment block, becoming admin of the block and sending messages to residents about how they want Ukrainians to burn.

Brimstone has entered the fight in the land attack role,#Ukraine: ❗️Even sooner than expected, UK-supplied Brimstone missiles are already being used by UA forces in the East.

Russian forces recovered remains of the motor section of a rather early Brimstone 1 (Made in September 2001)- which was modified to be fired from the ground. pic.twitter.com/O7I6pUCyFP

Words fail me. RF is on the back foot in Ukraine and the Duma thinks that it is a good idea to invade Poland.
