They really need some air defense to take these delivery aircraft down from the Odesa area, once you shoot several down the threat will go away as Russia probably cannot afford to loose their strategic bomber force.

Here we go again. Russians bombing the cr@p out of Ukraine and we (the west) don't allow them to respond in kind. It's high time the west untie the Ukrainians' hands and give them the means to respond EFFECTIVELY on Russian soil. Don't bore me with the possible consequences, they won't be any worse than where we're heading now!

During the night there was outrage that the Russians were firing their stuff right over Moldava/Transnistria, but today it's as if we have collective amnesia!?!? Was it a short dream?
They'll surely borrow Moldova's skies again if no-one really objects.

Personally, I don't believe that. What I do believe is that we the west, and in particular Europe, are totally gutless and too worried about any effect on our comfortable little lives!!!

The only one that has kept prolonging the carnage is Putin.

Naturally there will be a cynical few who will think that way, but that really is beneath dignity.
The one BIG hope in "the west" (actually north, south, east and west of Russia, i.e the whole world) is that Putin will just order the troops home to resume their legitimate duties of defending the motherland. That is all it would take.
Either that or 1,000 uncertain alternatives to nowhere healthy.

Are there any available ground-air missiles in the West which have very long range ? The S 300 is available in Ukraine but has only about 90 miles reach: presumably not nearly enough as they are not being used for that purpose.
Ecce Homo! Loquitur...
Otherwise there seems to be a lot of tankers flying race tracks in support of nothing.
But I'm not sure they are any use against Russian aircraft delivering stand-off missiles - which I think was the question asked.

The Russian stand-off missiles targeting Ukraine have ranges from 300 - 6000km.
Aster is a high-value target, point and area defence weapon.
As Xhorst points out in post #15278, the Russian launch platforms are well out of harms way when their missiles are released. Which leaves the Ukraine defences only able to take down the incoming missiles in-flight.
To push back the stand-off launch distances (and hence limit the use of their offensive missiles to kh-101 and kh-47 class) then CAP with AMRAAM and BVRAAM is required. Also air launched anti-ship sorties to keep the subs and missile frigates further back. Taking out aircraft from within the Belarus and Russian borders will be an escalation. Without air superiority and supremacy, this also leaves the CAP aircraft vulnerable to SAM and long-range R-77 air-to-air attack.
The UAF presently has limited stocks of the R-27 missile and probably none of the more modern medium range variants.
Hence the mooted requirement to integrate AIM-120 onto MiG 29 and also discussed supply of the Swedish Gripen with the MBDA Meteor BVRAAM capability. Long way off if ever.
