Surely it became a legitimate target the moment Russia attacked Ukraine

Ukraine's article 51 right to self-defence imposes no explicit restrictions on where it can use force. Given the clear-cut nature of the aggression it faces, Ukraine has the legal authority to target Russian military forces anywhere that they pose a threat, including in Russia or in international waters.

The possibility of this flotilla deciding to surrender to Ukraine or scuttle their ships is not lost on me. The onboard commissars must be looking over their shoulders every minute.

Possibly, although to be fair they have been slowly increasing every day and sometimes certain elements have not suffered further loss.

But in less than 24 hours they have lost a swathe of Helicopters and at least 2 SU30's, so it's not out of the realms of believability.

Its revealing looking at a map of Ukraine and the extent of Russian advances in the south, which seem to be bounded to some extent by natural barriers (large rivers etc). Kherson is not that far from Mikolaiv, which remains in Ukrainian hands - I wouldn't be surprised if there's a push to retake it sometime soon. Also, Mariupol is only a few tens of kilometres from the Russian border - amazing its been able to hold out for this long.

Russian military reporting they've repelled a Ukrainian counter-attack on the Kakhovka HEP station to the east of Kherson, which was captured by them on the first day of the war.

I'd be interested to see the source\date, according to my friend in Kherson, Kakhovka HPS was in Ukraine hands on Saturday, although Kakhova city certainly saw a lot more fighting, heavy armour than Kherson did.

Possible photos of the previous reported 30 helicopters destroyed at Kherson.

And more from the latest attack plus a follow up attack

The result of night strikes at Kherson airport can be seen in the right photo, in comparison to what happened after the daytime shelling yesterday. Russian military decided to remove some of the equipment, but have lost more than 10 helicopters in two days.

Sure you understand that is West Bank footage sarcastically dressed as UKR to illicit reactions?

1) the Ukrainians would chose a dark spot with Molotov to kill, not a bright crossroad to film themselves.

2) Russian army would unleash fire on the youngsters, we had seen much worse than that recently.

Unsure what these impeccable sources might be - or why needed - but there have been numerous televised instances of exactly this happening over the last 10 days.

Regarding tanks stuck in the mud: What's the standard tactics for a defender?

They would be great to use against the attacker, but to do that you'd have to get them out of the mud which by definition can't be an easy task or they wouldn't be stuck.

If you just leave them, they might get rescued at some point so that's not a good strategy

Do you just take anything movable and/or interesting, unload the ammunition maybe then try to destroy them in place? And how would you do that? Rip out the wiring, pour petrol inside and ignite it? put sand in the fuel tank?

Definitely filmed on the apron at Kherson airport; the distinctive lettering "XEPCOH" (Kherson) visible on the terminal building at 1.30. These can be compared to pre-war photos of the terminal. Clearly a lot of ground vehicles destroyed in addition to the burning/ destroyed helicopters that were visible on the satellite images. Looks to be a very successful strike for the Ukrainian forces.

Also notable that the footage appears to be approximately concurrent with the 1st set of (Planet) images, with vehicles still burning and helicopters visible that are shown destroyed in the later Planet imagery (16/03). Suggests that there were further attacks after this footage was filmed.

I don't get it, they are helicopters, who in the right mind would stick them on an airfield and not disperse them to the surrounding fields.
If fuel and arming are issues, set up refuelling locations in fields and separate arming points, at least do not park them on a concrete apron in pretty lines where the blast damage would be increased.
Surrounding fields and earth might absorb some of any near misses and being dispersed lessen your losses.
Talk about over confident and amateur hour.
