My thoughts too. I reckon it would only offer them very marginal advantages, and then only for a short period of time. To be honest it may be better for them if the skies were essentially clear of their airborne assets (drones aside) to give their AD crews a nice clear field of fire (i.e if anything flies, it dies).

Given the battle is essentially going to be an artillery duel to the death, anything the west could provide in terms of counter battery fire would be uber helpful e.g. the SPIKE system we used in Afghanistan.

Strictly speaking .50 is generally used for anti-materiel rifles.
.338 Lapua is most commonly the calibre of choice for snipers nowadays.
Usertim
Hopefully they will use them in anti materiel role not anti-personnel , a few squad equipped with barretts can certainly take out a lot of truck engines in that convoy!
Russian officers, the crew of crew-served weapons...I reckon Ukrainian snipers equipped with .50s aren't going to bypass high-value personnel targets or not delay/disrupt troop movements if its tactically advantageous because someone forgot to provide them with .300s or .338s. If trying to preserve the meat isn't a concern, it's always better to have too much gun than not enough and extra range is like extra fuel in the tanks (for more range).

Bayraktar TB2 x lots for anti-AFV and anti-artillery, plus latest generation ManPads x even more to take out helicopters are surely what the defenders need most urgently.

AAA seems to be doing well against invading aircraft.

Would more MiG-29 be high priority though?

Not based on experience. I can imagine a young nervous Russian with tales from his mates from other parts of the world and being tired, hungry, having been under fire and being risk averse.

It was a question, that's all.

Yes, but as I've tried to point out, it may not actually be the fighters that UKR government is most interested in getting, and that may be their method of pulling NATO across the red line of intervention.

Can't load for some reason, but wanted to ask if you as an enthusiastic observer have any more truth about those 25 (?) helicopters supposedly destroyed on the ground at Kherson ? All gone quiet on that front.

No proof just yet.

"Konrad Muzyka - Rochan Consulting
@konrad_muzyka
Ukrainian General Staff informed today that a naval infantry unit conducted a night operation that destroyed some 30 helicopters at Kherson Airbase. Below is
@capellaspace
SAR imagery collected 1026Z / 1227L 6MAR22 showing at least 49 helicopters deployed at the airbase.

Although yet unconfirmed, given the deployment of additional helos, it's possible the night raid could've destroyed many of the helos parked on the eastern side of the airbase.
We will try to obtain another image to confirm the outcome of the attack."

these scenes are insane
Nato has no balls, just sit and watch these horrible civilian casualties, that Russian probably a young soldier in the tank is feeling smug about killing a couple of octogenarians
and we sit and are unable to do anything due to the nuclear menace......
absolutely no justification for lack of intervention. Which country is next in the list?

I looked quite hard and did not find anything , even on kherson city telegram channel. Certainly there was some kind of local biggish battle @ night . my friend in kerson said "yesterday night was loud, our troops successfully fought with them on outskirts of the city. but I was scared, slept less and + had to hunt some food morning "

Also I noted that the claimed chopper destroyed number from UKR government seemed to jump up quite a lot , but no nothing to confirm the original claims for definite.

If you copy and past it won't load, if you click on it it should

All I have seen re Kherson was footage of explosions at night, see

BTW they have started to add invasion stripes for identification, must be bad when both sides use the same helicopters

Well,yes there is and it is the nuclear menace. I would like more intervention to be possible, but think the risk is way too high. Do you seriously think Putin would back down ? No, it would give him the reason to say to the Russians " Look, this is what I was telling you " and he wouldn't care too much what happened. This also wouldn't benefit the Ukranians , as this much more intense battle would be taking part on their territory.

More sober reflection please;

I have looked at a few sites and found nothing. I can't believe that they wouldn't have been able to get some visuals for what would have been a stunning success, so I think that has to go down as a big lie. Why though would they suddenly come out with such a whopper, when they knew that the magnitude of the lie would probably give it away ?

Well that's a double edged sword if ever there was one

Just more targets for the Ukrainian's to whack. Probably indicative that the Russians have lost a lot more armour than they were expecting. I think the Russian's will run out of tanks long before the Ukrainian Army runs out of anti tank missiles, or men to fire them.

No artillery on that train as far as I can see, just AFVs and other odds and sods. More stuff to join the back of the traffic jams and place yet more strain on Russian logistics.

The usual caveats apply when viewing this stuff i.e. where & when was is actually filmed etc.

Talking of logistics, I reckon military logisticians the world over are smugly watching the footage of Russia's chaotic efforts and telling their colleagues "See, we told you it was important". No more taking the p*ss out of them.
