It was parked in the corner facing the same way as the truck!... Moved about 10m and 120 deg.
Had a stack of fuel in it which probably helped keep it down.

Couldn't believe it had moved around so much - I was sure I hadn't had that much of a shocker with parking in the morning :}

25th Mar 2008, 13:16
Possibly a sentimental topic?

I have a question about the aircraft in the topic.
A Queensland Aerospace Piper Tomahawk...
(It's been deregistered by CASA... registration delegated to new Aircraft)

Firstly: What is it's future? The dump? Or is it possibly good for spare parts?
Thats how it was when I first joined RAC, now it's since been moved onto the apron, and its wingtips have been smashed off.

I haven't seen such a derelict aircraft, and I really think it should have been sold off to someone who wanted it (for a cheap price), than to be left to corrode away in the sea air.

anyone here have any memories of it before it became a rust magnet?

There: my own pic

25th Mar 2008, 20:23
Pyrotek I would be extremely careful posting copyright pictures belonging to someone else without their permission ... could end up in hot water over that!

25th Mar 2008, 23:27
ok guys is there an easy & basic way to upload a photo to a thread? I do remember seeing 'how to' posted somewhere but it seemed quite long winded to do.

I know there's the little icon for inserting an image but is it possible to upload from ones own computers stored images or does it have to be via a URL?

any idea's plz?

25th Mar 2008, 23:38
How about posting some of your better Wanaka photos??? I'll start the ball rolling with a bit of unashamed bragging here...look who I got to fly with...

26th Mar 2008, 00:48
I suppose when you live in Hamilton NZ that would seem exciting:rolleyes:

PS I am kidding......I would go for a fly with him too if he asked nicely:}

26th Mar 2008, 03:14
Well if that wasn't exciting enough...I've been going to WOW for 20 years now and had never seen one of these!!!
YouTube video to follow!!:ok:

26th Mar 2008, 03:37
You are kidding me.......It can't be......

You sure you are not photoshopping a soccer game to the Wannaka strip?

26th Mar 2008, 06:24
what?! wanaka has a strip and I wasn't informed of it when i went there?! geezus.

Flyitboy: go to http://imageshack.us (http://imageshack.us/) and upload your image there.
when it is uploaded copy the bottom URL in the text box (ignore the rest)
and paste it into the alert box that comes up (when you press the insert image button)

tnxs 'pyro' much appreciated

Why is everybody so clever?:ok:

26th Mar 2008, 08:10
flyitboy: many many, MANY years on the intarwebs

any word on VH-FTN? anyone?

26th Mar 2008, 08:17
'pyro' yr 17 yrs old for crying out loud(lucky bugga), how long could you have been on the web? You ought to be out chasing girls down the street rather than sitting as home staring at pretty ones on the net!:E If yr heading towards a pro pilot career then I can advise you to stick with the net, not too many have lost their brief over the net but plenty have been cleaned out by girls:p

I guess the kids of today have more 'toy's than we ever did ! 'alf ya luck!:ok:

26th Mar 2008, 08:44
Night Mode - thanks for your photos mate, the ones from cruise & dawn and night simply stunning!

Please post more if you have them :ok:

Capt Wally
26th Mar 2008, 11:12
Pyro I see yr advice to 'flyitboy' for photo upload. I've tried that a few times & it never works for me. Had any luck so far 'flyitboy'?
The URL seem way too long for it to be accpeted fwhen I try.

Would be nice to upload a piccy

26th Mar 2008, 11:43
Is it just me, or does CW and flyitboy seem like the same person?

26th Mar 2008, 12:11
flyitboy: you'd be surprised, i've had internet since i was about 6 years old, that's 11 years....

Also, I don't need to chase girls? I've already got a perfectly good one (off the net, but far enough away that i don't get made bankrupt :p)

CW/Flyitboy: Allow me to make a tutorial eh?
I'll post it up somewhere in the near future and then i'll PM you both.

DreamJob: Same kind of typing style, I wouldn't think they would be the same person, to be honest, otherwise they'd type different, to hide themselves.

Now, on to the tutorial. :D

Done! Click This Space! (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?p=4003942)

Capt Wally
26th Mar 2008, 20:38
geeez 'dreamjob' ever thought that 'flyitboy' might simply be mimicking me 'cause to him I may seem to have a different point of view to some threads at times? I agree he does seem to write like me in some ways I've noticed that at times but nobody cares I'm sure! I'm aware that some have numerous aliases on PPRUNE but not me, there can only ever be one Capt Wally:)

Tnxs Pyro for yr assistance but plz don't lump me in with Flyitboy, next thing ya know i'll be branded another 'Bo' lover !:E

Ahhhh, just checking out the Paterson's Curse in the paddock to the left of the runway, Jaba ! ("Overly observant smart ar*e!", the Mad Dr mumbles to hisself)

Dr :8

PS: Jimbour it is!

27th Mar 2008, 06:40
I was thinking that, If i wasn't landing and wasn't taking photos, then who did both!?, then i realised it was landing number 2.. i videoed it, however :P

27th Mar 2008, 07:20

i videoed it...

Well... post it on youtube and post the link here!

27th Mar 2008, 07:51
Capt Wally, can you explain why this post has "CW:)" at the end of "flyitboy's" post? (if you're not him!) :}

Anyway, that's it from me, no more witchhunts! :E

27th Mar 2008, 09:36
well 'dreamjob' I don't have to explain but seeing as you are on some sort of witch hunt here I'll tell you & others that can't mind their own business that 'Flyitboy' & I have had a few differences via PM's on some thread matters so he's signed off a few times using my ID just to P**s me off. I don't care really whether you or any others for that matter believe me or not. He comes & goes & and has p***ed off a few in here as 'aircraft' used to. End of story!

F( there, does that make us even now?):bored:

geeez Dr:8 how did ya squeeeeze into a Mooney?

Mooney, Bo, Mooney, Bo, Mooney, Bo oh such decisions!:ok:

27th Mar 2008, 10:23
Capt, we squeezed 4 people into the mooney! it was rather fun

27th Mar 2008, 10:27
Wally, Jaba and the Chuckler broke the Bonza - so I had to slum it in the Bro's Mooney.

Had to have physio for a week to be able to stand up straight again! Getting in is not too bad, but I gotta kinda roll outta the thing!

Dr :8

27th Mar 2008, 10:31
stop complaining Dr. 'slum it in bro's mooney', It was an alright plane! Certainly better than nothing!

27th Mar 2008, 11:10

Capt, we squeezed 4 people into the mooney! it was rather fun

I almost posted a pic of who you were squeezed in with, and she is about twice your age;)

Not a bad sort though.....I even trusted her to ride my GSXR!

27th Mar 2008, 11:19
BAHAHAH... You can if you want.... I don't really mind.. hahh

It will prove I do more than spend every waking minute on PPRuNe... And actually do see girls!

27th Mar 2008, 12:42
Hey Pyro mate

Whoops, ah well... She is quite the cool person anyway :D

Chimbu chuckles
27th Mar 2008, 13:33
Jaba and the Chuckler broke the Bonza

Lets face it...the alternator karked it...who would dare suggest it had not earned a rest..prolly pumped more amps out than any 10 other IO520 alternators...prolly worked harder than the prototype did during certification 'testing to destruction':E

Or maybe, as the good Doc transferred pretty well the entire nav suit (2 GPS' and a tablet-although I suspect there were more:} ) over to his brothers Mooney, the alternator felt it had been put out to pasture and died of a broken heart?;)

It just occurred to me- The Bonanza gets called a Boner so does that make the Mooney a Mooner or a Moaner?

27th Mar 2008, 13:50
hahah chimbu...
I suspect the alternator was working too hard trying to power all of Dr.'s peripheral equipment :p

Capt Wally
27th Mar 2008, 19:35
hey Dr:8 what denomination Mooney is that?

I figure if the lovely is twice Pyro's age (by calculation) then she's still very young !:bored:

Something look out of place in that pix, not sure whether it's the church or the plane, 'she' can stay but sumfin's gotta go !!:ok:

27th Mar 2008, 20:38
Haha looks like Pyro is getting one hell of an induction in to aviation! Onya pyro :ok:

Enjoy while you can mate, because you won't be seeing much of that out in Kununnarra or Palmerston, where your first job will be :}

I'll upload some pics of 3 more unusual planes that I have encountered in the last few months on the weekend... should be a good distraction from sharp objects while I'm doing my IREX practice exams :p

27th Mar 2008, 21:55
Something look out of place in that pix,

Aeroplane, attractive young lady, church? Seems like a typical aviation scene to me Wal!

hey Dr:8 what denomination Mooney is that?

Its a Mooney 205, Wal - 1987 model (I think!). How do turn a Mooney 201 into a 205? Ya rip the step off a 201 and throw it away - goes 205 mph instead of 201 mph!!!

Well spotted Nivo!!! That would be a PinC responsibility methinks... one has to wonder is that how the FT became a DK???

Capt Wally
28th Mar 2008, 05:20
you see 'nivo' the Dr:8 was trying to see if his bro's Mooney was faster than his own Bo so he wound the Mooney up & sent the needle right around the dial:E As for the red thing hanging from what appears to be the Pitot tube? well that's actually a deflated red ballon from the night befores church party, it's just lying there on the ground, then again it could have been a coloured proprolactic (not too sure on the spelling & I ain't gunna check either!), used of course, but then again it's a Catholic church right?:E:E Oh those Mooney boys, would you let yr daughter go to a church social with them?:E

p.s.........yes well spotted Nivo:)

28th Mar 2008, 06:18
Ha Ha Ha.... none of these goings on were mentioned on the day!!

I'd say embarrassment prevented any discussion of the matter.

Shouldn't laugh though, I've done it once myself... although very very early in my aviation life:=

Chuck.. tell me about this talking cigarette lighter. Surely you talk in jest.
Does it like.... tell you that its plugged in, or does it continually annnounce the supplied voltage ... or does it say that you should give up smoking?

28th Mar 2008, 07:14

It talks alright.....weird when you first hear it:uhoh:

Part of the G496, even calls out your alt on approach.....500 feet the girly says! Tells you when power is lost etc too so if you unplug it by mistake or from vibration.

Damn loud that Garmin Chick, even with a noisy Bo and your DC's on you can still hear her.

I can see CW thinking just like any woman!!!!:D:E

'tis truly amazing how many washers, nuts, bits of lock wire, cotter pins and, previously blocked, drain holes you find in the bottom of a fuselage when you clean 38 odd years worth of grime out of them.

Since I have personally run into a screw falling from an aircraft above, I'd believe it.

VH-MEP, Jun 11 1986, Over Ardrossan.

Result...hole in windshield and buggered prop blade.

Aircraft that dropped the screw was a Tobago from AFTS.

Some forums embed the youtube onto the thread, the code is eg. kTWOk6slU_Y It embeds the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTWOk6slU_Y so you see it just like an embedded photo so you can play the video from here without being redirected to youtube. It looks like this;

Lol, I reckon that old bucket of bolts would have dropped a few screws herself from time to time! Strange thing was though, when a Chieftain fell in a heap somewhere (or crashed as once was the case) or the Aerocommander went U/S, old MEP would be sent to the rescue. And it went the other way as well.
One day I'd flown ACZ to Adelaide on the regular service, tidied up the aircraft and went into the terminal to gather passengers for the flight back to the gutter. Upon returning to the aircraft with the outbound passengers I found it gutted!
Half it's radios were missing.
Seems MEP's radios were out for maintenance and someone didn't want to lose a days training, so they just stole them from ACZ while my back was turned.

I did five mail runs in MEP after ACZ had that little bingle at Clifton Hills in the hands of a current QANTAS pilot (not female).

Guess what, after 5 channel runs I found it is possible to land a Seneca gracefully.

Hmm, that must have been before my time. The old saying goes that you never land a Seneca1 you only arrive in it, but I have occasionally watched some good S1 landings. By the same token I have also seen some absolute shockers!
BTW was anyone watching SBS last night? They were obviously strapped for things to put on in one of the doco programs, & dredged up footage of the mail run that was done back in the days of ASA/Air North. Mango was at the helm that trip. Loved the narrator's pronunciation of Dulkaninna - nearly peed myself!

Yep, I'll go along with that! Saw her take to the skies a few weeks ago, wish I could have recorded the sound. Only other thing that can get me excited besides the sound of a pair of GTSIO's! ;)

Can remeber FIE when it was operated by Flinders Island Airlines out of MB. They had the Herald contract to Mildura and other northern Victorian locations. There was also a second one FID. Did several runs up to Corowa and across to Swan Hill, then back to MB, landing using the flare path! A real pilots aircraft.

2nd Apr 2008, 11:49
FIE was *special..* I think it was the only D18S in country... 3 blades and fabric control surfaces..

Personally I thought it looked better in red.

By the tie down area and the BP in the back it looks like YMOR perhaps.

I have no idea who owned it, so a wild guess is in order, and the only one I can think of is FLOPT. Thats a wild guess!

Okay, back to posting photos eh?
Lets go into history a bit (well, for me)

YBBN-KLAX during cruise (as they say about the AVOD system: "On Q"):

Approach into YBBN from Narita (RJAA or RJTT? I keep forgetting that one, i used to know it before i found out tokyo had a 2nd airport)
This was in 2005 or 2006, possibly 2007, memory escapes me

Would this be classified as aviation? My bird (old photo, probably the night before the YBBN-KLAX flight): He Is his own pilot! (he's adorable, seriously!)

5th Apr 2008, 20:38
Pryo, QUICK! Hide those pictures of your bird dude! Otherwise the pencil pushers in Canberra might realise that birds do indeed fly and mandate that all birds shall get an ASIC and a Medical! :}

5th Apr 2008, 21:04
Where shouldn't be hard.

But interesting to know if people can pick the type for #1 & #2 (especially from the younger punters) and what mod had been done to the aircraft in #3, and type if you want.

A few pics from my wanderings yesterday!

1) One for Jaba - I know the call-sign (VH-WTF) amuses him (I guess he is just a big kid at heart!)

2) This one is for Chuckles! Aerostar 600 Machen III - looks like an interesting beast!

3) ..... and what the f*ck is this?

It landed at YMOR yesterday when I was refuelling. Sounded like a chaff-cutter - looks like a Pitts that someone took a chainsaw to and chopped off the lower wing.

Did some interesting gyrations on roll-out - I thought for a moment that I would get a really good pic to post in here.

I had a dream year in 2005, representing Australia @<hidden> the Junior World Gliding Championships, UK! The first two pictures were taken of me flying an LS8 'D4' while crossing the finish line, and the 3rd picture is my mate crossing the line in an LS1-f (the glider that I presently own part share of in Australia).

Great fun, can't wait to get back into a glider as the career is getting in the way at the moment!

No idea what the third one is.

Aerostars certainly look like sex personified don't they? When everything is working they are great, if serious, fun to fly too but keeping everything working is VERY money intensive. Is that an unpressurised 600 or a 602P with the Machen mods? The two I flew started life as 602Ps and then were turned into 680/700Ps via the Machen modifications. The difference between 680 and 700P is the props.

6th Apr 2008, 03:52

For those that haven't seen one yet, the new E-Jet dropped into Albury while I was there today at the airshow.

6th Apr 2008, 11:14
"Oh sh*t the wing has fallen off!
I'm outta here! Seeya mate!

FTDK, yeah something like that! Often the parachute is only warn for comfort/padding in the cockpit. When you learn to glide in Aus, you generally go up without parachutes - madness hey! I own my own parachute these days, so on all gliding flights it comes with me :)

Here's a picture of my old mans glider, about to launch @<hidden> Kingaroy. It's a Schempp-Hirth Ventus 2cxM. The engine is a 52hp Solo engine, and at MTOW of 565kg it'll easily climb out at over 500fpm (early day self-launchers always struggled to get this). Once at around 2000AGL, the prop is lined up vertically and retracted back into the fuselarge. This transforms the glider into a more traditional 'pure sailplane'..

Dad's flown 988km in this bird, and fastest speed around a task of 144km/hr!

6th Apr 2008, 13:58
What a great plane! Awesome to see it perform.

When the hat badges equal the AUW of the glider you are cleared to go.

7th Apr 2008, 02:35

Knulp, that is true everywhere I have been gliding! Badge collecting seems to be a sub culture of all gliding enthusiasts.:ok:

7th Apr 2008, 06:35
Aint that the truth re: badges.. However, we've got a more appropriate name for those guys in the gliding world..

You might be talking about ZK-FNX, currently on skydiving ops in the North Island somewhere, I believe that was down the ice before arriving in NZ. I think the original log books are still down there, in the ship which went down.......down there.

Dunno Jaba. Like I said they were just emailed to me.

I hope it is a photoshop jobby though. If it was real it couldn't have ended well.

That would explain why there are all those lines where the explosion is but not on the rest of the fuselage. Very well done though.

9th Apr 2008, 00:14
Thanks for the mention of CJT.
Yeah mate of mine D.Brffa owned that 185 ...and yes it was to go to the south pole back in the eighties to pick up the guys who were retracing the explorer SCOTTS footsteps. When the ship carrying it arrived down in the ice the ships hull was crushed and CJT was hauled off the ship in the nick of time.
Soutern Quest or something the ship was called.
Briffa and I were both based at RAAF amberely ground staff in those days.
Many a DZ jump trip was flown in that machine. Briff kept it running like a swiss watch and being a LAME helped.
Not too many pilots were allowed to fly her as she was a real horn machine with a "HAIRY CHESTED IMAGE" as one young lady used to say
Glad to hear she is still flying.

For the sake of allegedly-good TV, they showed simulated cockpit views. Problem was, any pilot looking at those views would know that he was already dead: They were from about 1500 ft, when the aircraft was supposed to be at 10000 ft.

Was that the year it was rebirthed? :}

I've had 216 knots in cruise in a A36 (but dont have a photo to prove it ((but I do have the GPS log somewhere probably))

Oh crap Jaba, I forgot about that day! Getting old ya know.

Well today was the 2nd highest GS in cruise that I have seen in a SE light aircraft!

Today was scarier!

Bevan, the 210 has 0007.1 hrs on the tacho!

PS: 216 kts huh? Don't think it counts without the pic!

Pyro, ya 2 is a bit skinny - and ya 7 is crooked! Ya'll have to do better than that!

Dr :8

PS: The FTDK doesn't have a Garmin 530!

15th Apr 2008, 11:59
nah, your GPS was just a faulty one when it came out the factory, the LCD was incorrectly calibrated, yes!

(actually I thought my 2 was a bit fat)

Wait a minute, 210's went out of production in 1986, and they were R models by then.
They never returned to production when the 172/182/206 did.
Someone's telling porkies here. :=
