rumour has it it is going offshore to the cheapest labour in the world

Heard that rumour too.... but.....last I heard slight change of plan. If the Alpha 2160 is built overseas the Type Cert is no longer valid. Therefore the parts will be made overseas but will be assembled at NZHN.

So I think Slackie might be on the money.

toolowtoofast
9th Aug 2009, 07:24
TBH I had heard the assembly suggestion too, but had somewhat discounted it as the assembly delays were (as far as I'm aware) one of the the biggest hold ups at Alpha, although I do know there were some supply issues too - doesn't help when you can choose 1 of about 12 spec levels, and they were all being finished on the line - spit out green planes with a basic package, 140 or 160hp - 3 models at the most - and have a side company doing the upgrade/painting/delivery etc.

One issue with assembly - there's not a whole lot of aircraft engineers/tradesmen looking for work at the moment.....

The last time Forkie was there....1999......

They flew in a huge flight of T34s......another Beechcraft variety...it was before his FTDK days..he was a C402 bloke then !.....

Next day the tower gave two Bearcats ' clear to take-off '... when there were two Corsairs on the runway in front of them!!!!!!!! Two collided....huge fire ...no fire tenders handy...[ they were the day before, blocking the view!]....pilot lucky to survive....

Didn't someone die last year?..........I think they average one every two or three years....

So your point is?

I reckon in 137 Bonanzas you would have 20% above average competent pilots, 20 % average , 20% below average ,but OK on a good day,etc.......and 20% who shouldn't be there.....that's 27 odd planes to worry about.....

'Nother reason why I don't go to the Birdsville races ....who wants to mix it with them? 'Specially if they're flying Bonanzas!!!!!!!!!

I'm surprised a 210 will go that quick with that many ripples under the wing!

Dr, perhaps I should clarify, I was talking Cirrus sr20 G3 gts turbo type speeds. A few takeaways from the retard vehicle. Excellent visibility, nice nose low comfortable attitude, easy to fly, big rudder, responsive controls, short takeoff, nice reliable lycoming, plenty of gadgetry, roomy in front seats, exceptionally roomy in the rear (moreso than a Cirrus), easy to get in and out o and masses of fuel. Things it needs include DVD entertainment, booster seats in the rear and a new storage location, preferably in my hangar.

Airline type photos are banned from here, otherwise jetbrett will delete the thread and we will all be stuffed. Same with helicopters.

C'mon wallsofchina post us some pics of your raa bug smasher with fabric wings so we can have a closer look.

Dribler....I now get it......the Cap, I see, well thats not my head in the cap.....but the owner of said head and cap frequents here quite a bit......very quiet chap though.....and he may want to keep it!

Griffo.....as explained above, its not my toy, and as for fuel consumption.....well I reckon she must be a two stroke! :} The fuel to oil ratio must be about the 25 - 50:1 :E.

I do not know the numbers but I am sure it will not take long for someone who knows to pop in.

You should have seen the oil down the right hand side after the run, at the start it sprayed about 4 sq.M of the fuse, and another 4 of the lower wing black! :ouch:

The most efficient fuel to noise converter I have seen!

There is one avbl on the web at Singapore, registered, for a very fair price...IMHO.

But I ain't sure that I could keep 'feeding it'....

Ovation, how fast is that approach? Just wondering if it's a strong wing, slow approach/aircraft or an unusual frame rate.

Jaba, good video with the detailed checks being demonstrated, would be good to see (and educational for people here) something similar for other common types, eg Chieftain or perhaps Caravan.

TKFS, Heavy rain in a Regional Pacific Braz? That strip has similarities to Nadzab but unless a LOT of houses have sprung up recently I don't think it is... The apron is also on the wrong side of the runway.

The Frog got the Queenair in 93 I think. It was very tidy on arrival and a nice ship. Ran for a couple of years on Charter out of Moresby but mainly on the paper run TNA had at the time. Went up to Hagen for Maintainaince to find one or both engines needed major work. She has never left and has slowly 'Lost' bits with the passing of time. The Islander at Tabubil has nothing to do with TNA by the way. Anyone know if the Frog still runs ex COD last known as TN? out of Chimbu? It was a nice Bongo if there can be such a thing.

When we first started flying the X in the states we had a lot of those queries. A lot of controllers asking us about the speed. Some of the smart asses would reply "We're doing Mack .92. What do you need? :)"

Don't get so many inquiries these days but its still fairly common to lose contact with ATC on a transcon. The plane is so fast we often fly out of a controllers airspace before hes noticed we're gone!

Here's a small world story ..

The first plane I flew was a Cessna 150 out of Bankstown. Its rego was VH-TEN.

That rego has since transferred to what is I believe the only Citation X flying in Australia.

No transfer, it just grew up. :}

Personally I don't find the Citation X a particularly good looking aircraft.
The top of the fin is awkward looking and that belly fairing is very ordinary, and that applies to all the other modern small jets that have them. Without those two negatives in my view it would look fantastic.

I agree with you about the top of the fin. That ugly belly fairing is actually a skid used to protect the center fuel tank in the event of a gear up landing.

Whaleoilbeefhooked, I thought that belly fairing was to smooth over the single piece wing under the belly of the beast...as for the other trinkets up on the tail,,,if it can maintain control that close to and below transonic flow, you gotta give it to the dudes at Cessna....who would have ever thought back in 1969 a slug Citation would have ever morphed into THE fastest bizjet available.

I would have thought it also helps keep the fuselage build simple - having the wing running through the fuse makes for complicated pressurisation strength building - more weight, less speed etc. Keep the tube round, it's strong (to at least FL48 obviously!) and it's light.

Dosn't seem to have affected the X too much, ugly, but fast!:bored: I am trying to explain cool to my son, the difference between his cool and my cool is, His cool is Gulfstream IV, nice looking and fast, but my cool is F4, Butt ugly and fast, but COOL.:ok:

Toolowtoofast,

The service ceiling of the X is FL510 although I've never flown it at that level.

Under most circumstances its happy to climb directly to FL450 and after burning fuel up to FL470. I've climb it to FL490 but it too a long time! At that altitude the plane feels like its balancing on a pin and the red and white lines are very close together. I don't even what to think what the period of useful conscious who be in the event of a depressurization.

At least one of the pilot's would be fine, because they would have their oxy mask on above FL410! Wouldn't they? :E

Gee Jaba,

Looks like a LUVLY place to be....Blue skies, Green grass to land on, and bewdiful aeroplanes......
Am Jealous.

In 'the ole days' we did well at WYALKATCHEM in Wheatbelt Country WA to have a good array of Chippies, Tigers, C-180, Pawnee, Callair, and the 'usual' assortment of 'modern' Cessna / Pipers etc.

One of the best pics of the time was taken by the Cessna rep, of all the other aircraft sales reps from JT - Piper, Beech, etc standing under the wing of a Cardinal to keep out of the sun....at least they were useful for that....

Cheers, NICE POST!:ok::ok:

Possibly also for keeping the area rule (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-shock_body) for making things nice and slippery when transonic.

Not possibly Andy, fact. If you want the full detail you'll need to spend some money at American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics - Electronic Library Search Results (http://www.aiaa.org/content.cfm?pageid=406&gTable=mtgpaper&gID=80804)

And seems the G650 will have to stretch its legs to keep up as well. From Aviation International News

First Winglet-equipped Citation X Delivered
Cessna Aircraft yesterday delivered the first Citation X retrofitted with elliptical winglets made by Wichita-based Winglet Technology. The winglets were installed at Cessna’s Wichita Citation Service Center under Winglet Technology’s FAA STC. According to Cessna, the patented elliptical winglets optimize lift distribution, which reduces drag and thereby decreases fuel consumption and increases speed and range. A Cessna spokeswoman declined to provide performance data for the winglet-equipped Citation X, saying this information will be released next month at the NBAA Convention in Orlando, Fla. However, a brochure from Winglet Technology indicates that fuel consumption is reduced by 4 to 5 percent, speed at altitude is increased by 15 knots and range is increased by 150 nm, to 3,220 nm. The winglet retrofit kit, which costs $415,000, includes flight and operations manual supplements and replaces the existing anti-collision and position light system with LED versions. Cessna said winglet installation, which includes structural modification of the Citation X wing, costs $178,000 and takes about four weeks. Plans are now under way to offer retrofit installation of the elliptical winglet STC on the Citation X at all nine Citation Service Centers in the U.S. and Europe.
