Macron substantially toughening France’s position…

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/p...ssia-x95thvcvz

President Macron pledges all-out French effort to help Ukraine defeat Russia

President Macron warned France today that the war in Ukraine will turn “very hard” by autumn and pledged an all-out French effort to stop Russia winning.

After reviewing a Bastille Day military parade led by contingents from the former Soviet-bloc Nato states, Macron accused Moscow of using its energy supplies as a weapon and said all Russian gas supplies to France would soon be stopped.

Macron, who has been accused by eastern Europeans of seeking to appease President Putin, used his first television interview since his re-election in April to strike a tough tone in support of Kyiv and the “unbelievable courage of the Ukrainians”.

“We have to prepare ourselves for the war to last for some time. The summer and the beginning of autumn are no doubt going to be very hard,” he said, referring to Russia’s grinding offensive in the eastern Donbas region.

France would not falter in supplying weapons and supporting international sanctions, he said. “We want to stop this war without getting involved in the war ourselves. We have to do everything possible so that Russia cannot win and for Ukraine to defend its territory. We don’t want a world war, so we don’t want it to be extended [beyond Ukraine],” he added……

Macron warned France to brace for difficult times on the energy front. “Russia has already started to cut off gas supplies” by closing the Nord Stream 1 pipeline that delivers gas to the EU, he said. “That’s a very clear message: It will use gas as a weapon of war,” he said. “We will need to do without Russian gas completely.”

Only dependent on Russia for about 20 per cent of its gas, France is in a stronger position than Germany and other countries that import energy, he noted, but France must “enter a collective logic of restraint”, and reduce its consumption…..

The leverage is very thin: the principal countries providing help to Ukraine are either not likely to budge because of conviction, and/ or because of less vulnerability. The likes of Germany and Italy easing sanctions would certainly help Russia, but not to the extent of influencing the Ukraine. France, who wisely retained nuclear energy when most others flinched, might make soothing noises from the side-lines, but only to drown the sniggering at Germany's come-uppence. Merkel has a great deal to answer for.
Russian mindset is that the Great Powers of Russia, Germany/UK and France decide everything between themselves. The little countries are puppets in their spheres of influence and therefore irrelevant. The very concept of these non countries having a say, is unimaginable.
Yet again reality has tripped up Russias invasion plans as it did in 1919-1921 when the attempt to invade Germany and France ran into Poland .
There is s dozen countries who will not back down

I have the greatest respect for the Germans, they are a wonderful people. It should be remembered, however, that the world, at great sacrifice and suffering, helped to free them from their own home-grown tyrant. I would hope that the Germans (and other European nations) are now ready to repay the favour by helping the moral world to free the Russians from theirs. This will require a great deal of sacrifice all round, but it is the right thing to do.

July 15 (Reuters) - A British aid worker who was detained by Russian-backed separatists in Ukraine and accused of being a mercenary has died, an official in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) said on Friday.

We simply cannot allow Putrid to bully us into submission. If we do, the future will be even bleaker, much bleaker! The western population need to be resilient no matter what the hardships are. Governments will need to work on convincing their people that appeasement failed and will do so again.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Reznikov hinted at the possible delivery of ATACMS to Ukraine in an interview for Financial Times. That's a 190 mile range and could possibly bring the likes of Sevestapol into range, it would also be able to be positioned outside artillery range while it hits targets such as fuel and ammo dumps.

and still they take out more Russian stockpiles. It looks like they are going after the stuff Russia needs to support the frontlines.

Well here is a classic barking at the moon moment.

In addition to 10 new Krabbs from Poland it appears the Ukrainians now have one of these

As for the telling Ukraine they must negotiate, my reply to Germany would be , we will operate a scorched earth policy if we have to negotiate away our lands and the first thing to go would be the gas pipeline through our Country if that is the case.
That works for me

Someone also needs to supply some of those long range HMARS to sink the submarine that launched those missiles into the health centre yesterday. I can deal with most of those dreadful images we have been seeing, but the little girl lying dead under her pushchair, has affected me more than anything else. I think we have reached the point where push must come to shove and Putin must be dealt with once and for all, whatever the consequences.

Thoroughly sickening video of an amercian 'citizen' contravening geneva convention Article 13, that “prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity”. against Aidan Aislan who is under a death sentence that is also against the Geneva convention as he is not by any means a mercenary.

If there is one video that shows the impact the war is having on the common soldier it's this one.
Can only imagine what they are going through.

"I promise you in 2 years Minsk will become the capital of the United States of America"...
You just can't make this up.
I admit that I will add to my Christmas list (of things that I want) one of these

My loving wife has advised me that it may be outside of the budget this year, but I'll write Santa Claus a letter anyway and hope that he can fit it down the chimney.

US apparently to train Ukrainian pilots of F15’s and F16

https://news.yahoo.com/ukrainian-pil...142657515.html

https://news.yahoo.com/zelenskyys-of...160500270.html

Earlier journalist Ostap Yarysh tweeted that the U.S. House of Representatives had passed a $840 billion defense policy bill.

According to the journalist, part of this amount should go to training Ukrainian pilots.

Yermak also confirmed this information.

"The United States plans to train Ukrainian pilots on the F-15 and F-16 fighter jets," he said.

"This amendment to the U.S. Fiscal Year 2023 Defense Funding Bill was supported by the House of Representatives. A total of $100 million is planned to be allocated for this."

In turn, political scientist and publicist Andrei Piontkovsky believes that this is an indirect confirmation that Ukraine will get U.S. fighter jets as military aid to defend against Russia, however, it is still difficult to say when exactly this may happen.

Yes ... let's stay on the Mil/Avn aspects please.

So, it seems the RF is now burning SLBMs at UKR targets. How long can they keep that up? Is this really Military activity, or just more Terror attacks?
