Yes i think it should be ok. And if not, bad luck for them, they have to accept that. You or they can not change the rules of the caa of your country.

I read in the Terms and Endearments forum in the B777 jobs thread that it has something to do with the attitude of the airline.

"Don't go Qatar mate. They're losing 160+ pilots a year because of the airline's attitude."

I really don't get the airline's hiring policy. They would rather hire pilots with 2000 hours turbo prop time and give them an A320 rating, instead of hiring people who already have an A320 rating, 300+ hours on it but less than 1000 hours TT. I know several of the latter, who have been waiting more than 3 months for an invitation, while turbo prop guys have zoomed by and received an invitation in less than half that period.

It has also come up that their training facilities are heavily booked due to all the type ratings they have to give, so why not just hire rated guys. It would take considerably less time to get these pilots online and save money.

You will be asked for that letter, FYI the UK CAA doesn't provide the letter to the pilots but if it is requested by the company itself the UK CAA will provide the letter of verification because this is what they are asking for in the UK format it is included if any action has been recorded against you, so yes you need the letter, many spanish in Qatar so maybe you can try to ask them how they did.

28th December Interview
 

Did any of you do interviews on the 28 December 2011? Did anyone receive a reply of success or failure as of yet?
The four weeks that they mentioned that we would get an answer in is almost up and as of yet I have heard nothing.

1000 tt hours? I can not get a invite and I have 5000 tt. 4000 turbojet. Who cares if they have a type. You still have to complete the training anyway with a check ride. I have been waiting 80 days for invite. Have to reapply next week. Patience.

I'm waiting now for almost 1.5 month after submission. So far no reaction. This waiting is killing me. :\

To those currently with Qatar. What is the best fleet to request / hope for? I am aware that the 320 is most likely for new joiners (FO) with no type rating but with an interview in Qatar coming up in a few weeks then the question about what fleet I would like to join is bound to be asked. From what I gather the 320 fleet seems to be the workhorse of the airline, I am not afraid to work hard but with a wife and 2 young children is the benefit of being at "home" as regularly as possible offset by the current 320 roster? Clearly, I would be allocated to the fleet most required by the company but in an ideal world where is the place to be for career progression and more importantly, lifestyle with a young family? Any thoughts most welcome.

787s will be arriving in May/June. That would be a nice fleet to join as they ramp it up... :D:ok: Sometimes timing is everything. Perhaps you could get lucky and get a FO seat. That said, sounds like the A320/19 is the likely fleet for newbies.

Some advice for you


If asked which fleet you want, tell them any.


Would you be joining as a first officer or as a captain ?


If you're joining as a first officer, I am guessing the 320 would be the best fleet for you to see your family the most.


The 330 guys and 777 guys are away from Doha a lot which is ok if you don't have a family here or a very understanding wife.


All aircraft here are work horses. I have first officer friends on the 320 who hate it, I also have first officer friends on the 777 who hate it. You either like it or you don't. What I must point out is some love the 777 and also some love the 320, so it depends on the person and circumstances.

I never hear many 330 first officers complaining, but if and when they have been changed to frieghters and that could change ?


Regarding fleet for career progression, anybody's guess. If you join 320, when you have 5000 hours and 3 years in the company, you will proberbly get command.


The 320 is not a bad fleet to be on and depends what it is you want in life. Some people hate it and some people love it. The problem with pprune is you only here from those who hate it. The 320 rating is a better rating to have and is a golden ticket to getting another job should you or Qatar decide you're not going to be working here anymore.

As of today, we have just over 1700 pilots although I am guessing the last couple of 100 are in training


People leave or get sacked.


They either leave because the have been here for several years and want to have a change in life or location


They may want to return to their home country where jobs are picking up

They may have been sacked because they did not perform as they should have done during training


They may of been sacked because they have done something very stupid and put themselves or others at risk


I am not sure where this 160 pilots a year figure came from, but considering there is over 1500 pilots in Qatar, is 160 a year a big deal considering most will be leaving because they want to. What's the big deal in this. They may find jobs that suit them more and good luck to each and everyone of them.

Captain Krunch, can you remind us again on the figures for those who left in 2011 as I guess you have the facts


Some captains I have met and flown with have been in Qatar for 7 8 or 9 years and love it.


Some are longing to return to their home county, depends on individual circumstances


Some are just wanting to leave Doha


Some realise that its not too bad a place to be and get on with it
