A few weeks ago the airport operator stated that it had started to remove all the cars from the roof of MSCP2 to help stabilise the building. I think they have missed a few. Idea abandoned?

8,540 complaints from same 20 people.
They must have the Airport number in their favourites for a more than daily chat.

Most people don’t bother, as it is a complete waste of time and effort. Bad neighbour comes to mind who broke night noise limits for three consecutive years and kept it quiet while having a man arrested they considered had made too many noise complaints.

Has the crane gone, NOTAM is still active until 30th November?

That's ridiculous. The vast majority don't care and just the same usual Mail-reading snowflake-types who become obsessed with it and turn every conversation into the same tiresome thing. We all know the sort - total bores.

Yep, no cranes spotted for maybe a couple of weeks. Some burnt out cars have been repositioned on the roof while some undamaged cars have been left untouched. Others were moved off the roof weeks ago. The pictures I took with the cranes was on October 23rd.

No idea what the guys were doing with the two hoists despite watching them for several minutes.

The ones who don’t care are the ones who are not affected. Lots of complaints now from around the new stack in Huntingdonshire. Maybe they are being ridiculous but then maybe they were once not distributed by aircraft noise.

The airport in their generosity will pay for up to 3 windows to be double glazed for the worst affected areas around the ends of the runway. Got more than three windows then it is tough. Not sure how they would double glaze a back garden but then who cares?

They must have really good ears, 99% of the planes never reach them.

I remember watching the USAF zooming about from RAF Alconbury. People have very short memories.
....and if they do go into a hold, it is not below FL080.

It is not lost on me that many people who complain are more than happy to fly over someone else's home at 2 in the morning, just so long as they are not disturbed in their own home.

Banning night flights would be a good start, which happens at many airports. If fares go up then who cares?

Probably same people who order Christmas presents on Amazon on 22nd December and expect it next day!

Which major Airports in UK ban night flights? LHR charges a big premium and there are restrictions but that affects millions.
Luton has just a handful of arrivals and is small compared with Stansted or Gatwick.

So Christmas presents should be allowed to disturbed someone’s sleep patterns? Order early then with a bit of forward planning is the answer. As for banning night flights, Luton should be a leader and be a socially responsible airport that considers its neighbours. Many airports around the world have night bans including in the U.K.

That is not the way things work anymore, public want 24hr ordering and next day delivery.
They want a cheap flight to the sun and are quite happy to arrive back at 02:00 if it will be cheaper.
Is it being responsible already encouraging newer aircraft.
We are an island so rely more heavily on air travel for connectivity so comparing with the likes of some Germany cities ( not Cologne & Leipzeg ) or Switzerland is not the same.
I am struggling to find UK night ban, are the thinking of LHR? There is no formal ban on night flights at Heathrow but since the 1960s, the Government has placed restrictions on them. Night-time (23:30 - 06:00) operations at Heathrow are heavily restricted by the Government, which sets a limit of 5,800 night-time take-offs and landings a year.

So Manx states quite rightly that most people don’t care about aircraft noise so long as it doesn’t affect them and pabely quite rightly states that people demand next day deliveries and cheap flights, as a night ban would affect them. I don’t disagree with either of those statements but that doesn’t mean a night ban shouldn’t be introduced.

As already established by Luton Airport, the DHL A300 is noisier than the newer A321Neo, which is noisier than the A320 it is replacing so let’s start by banning the A300. Then ban the A321Neo then ban the A320 operating overnight. I am not convinced by the argument that cheaper fares and an overnight parcel from Germany is a reason for leaving things as they are. If someone has to pay a higher fare to get to their destination then so be it. They also won’t like the taxes they pay but they put up with it. If there are less flights then that reduces pollution and emissions and is good for the planet.

What we have established here is that everyone is only interested in number one, it’s human nature and it won’t change.

Interesting you highlighted a DHL A300 - That arrives at 04:30 and departs at 08:45 yet the two DHL 757s arrive and depart between 00:01 and 04:30.
Is the 757 significantly quieter that people don't notice those ones?
Are they hearing FedEx, UPS & West Atlantic traffic departing STN and assuming it's Luton traffic?

Think this is the crux of the matter.
Personally I would like to see a breakdown of the complaints by time of day, Airline( if Luton based), where the complainant lives etc etc.
I live currently in Northampton and even a couple of Ryanair 737-8s going into BHX at times can be noisy( out of the norm) probably due to atmospherics . Easy to check on one of the sites.
Maybe the Airport could publish this info, leaving out the personal data, would make for a interesting read.

Exactly, doesn't need much effort to collocate against the ltn.topsonic site. Perhaps some of these complaints are nothing to do with Luton.

I live S.W. of LTN (about 28km / 17m) and hear:
LHR: traffic departing and arriving (time of day) and Bovingdon hold.
LTN: Mostly arriving, especially late night
STN: Occaisionally
BHX: Occaisionally

Sometimes (atmospherics dependent) high overhead to Europe with an early let down.

I used to live closer to LTN and, before that, Shepherds Bush and the approach to LHR.

Never made a complaint in my life as I have used LHR for 57 years and LTN for 39. Both airports existed before I moved into their area.
