Is public transport straight forward for getting from BHD to Bangor? A shop I need to visit there in Bangor some time in the next few months if my health holds up. It is a music shop in an industrial estate but I lost track of the name and details when I got sick a few weeks ago. Anyone have any ideas?
How are the Continental loads to Newark at the moment?
Thanks and a big hello from Cork!

On the return, there's a small shelter inside the airport gates by the footbridge. The courtesy phone inside is broken, so use your mobile to call the number on the shelter to call a bus. Think that number is 028 9093 5105.

Thanks for the updates, everyone. You have been very kind to this Cork man on the look out for a well priced saxophone. I was once on a jolly up to the Harbour one Sunday evening many years ago there & back on the South West Bandeirante. What a great flight that was using Hogg's flight bag as a jump seat in the gin clear cold frosty evening looking up at the BA 777 going west over head us on the way up and when we got back down again to Cork with a good load I may add we all went to the Rob Roy for a few jars! Happy memories of my one & only flight and visit to Belfast.
Must correct that soon.

does that not mean an average of about 270 odd per day, how much does the 757 hold? or is that forward and back?

Presumably not carrying much. Have seen them eat every last inch going off Prestwick and been tempted to dive for cover as there was little sign of rotation and the aircraft was starting to look worryingly big (!)

George Best Belfast City Airport
Interesting article on Belfast City Airport website saying that there is overwhelming support for runway extention from the business community. It says that most people would choose the City Airport over the International if they had the choice of destination (based on a survey).
It is amazing, I use both airports, mostly the international airport due to range of destinations but mostly because it is nearer for me. However, I really like the city airport.
What is interesting for me is that what I detect is that many people associate the city airport with small prop aircraft and the International with bigger planes going to sunny places and holidays!
But alas I get such a sense in the last weeks that Belfast City airport could be a huge thorn in the side of the International. John Doran's public statement says to me that he sees real danger for BFS if the City airports' runway is extended.
So with a growing Ryanair, a runway extention will this become a Boeing Airbus type scenario where BHD becomes as busy as BFS???
I know there are movement restrictions at BHD but if they get the planning, surely the level of movements could be upgraded too?

This is interesting, but - depending on your objectives, who and how many you ask - surveys and stats will always produce whatever answer you want!!
What I find most amazing about this BFS / BHD debate is city's insistence that their need to grow is critical to the future economy of the country.
The facts are things are poor economically, and it must be a real struggle for all airports, BHD included, to retain many of their existing services at the mo.
Yet new owners have just arrived (a private equity company) and spent a king's ransom to buy city airport with a big panic on to extend.....Surely they'll want to re-dress the place again and get out quick-smart by their very nature???
There's something that just doesn't stack up to me....

Basically if BHD gets a runway extension its curtains for any future growth at BFS. With 48,000 movements per year limit at 149 per flight =7.15million seats available. The runway will be of a length to carry any jet currently operating out of BFS on its current routing. Oh you will say that there is a seats for sale cap there, but that's easily shifted with the planners.

I think there will always be a need for BFS, regardless about the expansion plans at BHD. Personally I think that BHD provides a more modern, user friendly experience, but I'm all for the creation or one excellent airport for Belfast. Modern with a range of airlines to a range of destinations. While that might seem like a dream, then I think BHD should stick to what it does best. An excellent regional, more business orientated airport. If BHD gives too much to FR, will we end up with another Shannon basket case, with all other airlines basically leaving and allowing FR to run the show?? Lord I hope not??
On a seperate note, from a very quick scan, it would appear that Falcon/First Choice have cancelled their wintersun programme from Belfast, with the exception of ACE using the Thomas Cook flight. For Dec/Jan/Feb it will not give options to book for Tenerife or Gran Canaria. Is this due to the demise of FUA, and is it so???? That is a huge blow if true, Falcon have offered wintersun from BFS for donkeys!!!
