The reason that I still use ceefax is that I am not a slave to every new electronic device that is invented. Unlike many, I control my life and i decide what I will use or use and when, not some marketing dept. Unlike many, I do not need a mobile anything stuck to my face and I do not need to have my phone on before I leave the plane. Recognise those, the ones who need to get their phone on urgently to check for missed calls only to find, usually the case, no-one was looking for them anyway. Hope they can cope with the rejection.

Ceefax suits me fine, tells me all I need to know. If I need to know more, then I can consult something else. You see, having control of my life is more important than being able to tell everyone about all the wonderful devices etc that I use.

Hope this clarifies

Which begs the questions; if you're such a self-reliant technophobe, why use an internet website to enquire about something that you could have found out simply by sending a letter ? Why prefer ceefax over the internet on your stated terms when it essentially uses the same technology albeit outdated ? Why would any of this make anyone a slavish technohead ? Someone on this site needs to start that airport-arrivals-board-addiction-syndrome thread ! I think this is a clear case of AABAS self-denial ; a common symptom according to experts ! Nevertheless I salute your stoic loyalty to ceefax.

Jet2 Next Summer

Is there anyone on here who is close to whats happening at Jet2?

How many aircraft are they planning to base next summer and will it include a 757?

There has been considerable changes to the route make up ie addition of Croatia , Menorca and Jersey routes and the dropping of others.

Blackpool is coming back?? I am wondering what is the ratio of business passengers to leisure travellers? Suppose its very small business pax?

Response to EI-BUD...

Most of the usual suspects will be back
Palma, Ibiza, Murcia, Pisa, Blackpool

AFAIK no plans for a based 757 in BFS

I think that Jet2 are being alot smarter than many of the other airlines who permanently talk themselves up....

They have a good fuel position, have solid back up in their air cargo and logistics businesses and are steadily slipping into vacated niche charter territory, now that XL and some of the Spanish airlines have gone, and Monarch are busy providing extra capacity for TCX and TUI.

Croatia will be a good move for them out of Belfast and there are numerous other less mainstream routes which they currently offer from Leeds and Manchester which could also do well from BFS...

Interesting, if rather disjointed, article in yestersday's Irish News. Despite the "downturn" the only airport (in NI) to contract October 2007 to October 2008 was BFS. It'll be interesting to see the CAA stats tomorrow (NOT available on CEEFAX ;-)) to find out where BFS is losing numbers.....(other than the well publicised routes).

A word of advice from the South, Watch those LHR slots.

I have to say that EI seemed to have lost out at BFS. They have messed up in my opinion. Their schedule for business travel was not good, they failed to take advantage of the longer business day with respect to London. Amsterdam and Paris are a disaster. If BFS is a test for expansion then EI will mess up where ever they go.

Aer Lingus were constrained by the slots they hold at LHR. While it would have been great to have the flight times you mentioned, Aer Lingus simply didn't have the slots at the times you mention. In order to get better slots they would have to move around Dublin and Cork times. However with both of these routes doing vastly superior to BFS-LHR in terms of both loads and yield theres no way they're going to jeprodise either the Cork or Dublin routes. For example in August ORK-LHR carried 52,064 (an average of 168 passengers per flight) while BFS-LHR carried 30,023 (an average of 121 passengers per flight). When you add in the fact that fares on ORK-LHR are much higher than BFS-LHR, one wonders what the long term future of BFS-LHR is?

Watch those LHR slots

The SNN LHR operation was hamstrung by the hugely expensive 2 shift ground handling there. A full compliment of staff for just two LHR flights one of which operated late at night.

The load factors on the route were far higher than BFS has achieved. If EI succeed in outsourcing ground handling everything will be up for discussion.

A bit old fashoned

I know that I'm going to be laughed at for this one, but given the trends on both internal routes, how about a BFS/MAN/LHR with say a 25 min stop at MAN - would cut slots required at LHR and maintan freq to lhr on both routes. It might need to be off peak but say every 60 mins, with an A300 size plane. Simple and cheap fare structure differentiate destination luggage by hold to keep the turn rounds quick. two lots of 150 pax from each node.

Stop laughing - It could work.

OT to the extreme, but I have to be interviewed by telephone for a new job shortly after arriving at BHD tomorrow afternoon on FR from Prestwick. Could any locals recommend a quiet corner in the public areas of the terminal where I can sit down and sell myself for a job without too much noise in the background? Many thanks...

Believe it or not one of the quietest places is the self service restaurant on the first floor which overlooks the runway. It's not often busy and you should be able to have a private conversation there. When you come out of arrivals take the escalator and you'll arrive at the entrance to the restaurant. There is a Costa Coffee in the middle of the ground floor but the acoustics of the building mean it can be quite noisy. The first floor restaurant is definitely quieter and you can spread out any documents you need on the table. Good luck. Hope it works out.

Tornado at BFS today?

Thought I seen a Tornado in the air near BFS today...departing over Randalstown, before heading out towards Larne...any confirmation?
