Gdansk - one flight cut will now be 2 weekly like the winter
Gdansk now back to 3 weekly for next summer.

Didn't expect the BHO to do that well.

Kavs8- ref to the link to the article on the success of Manx2 on new Cork Services to BHD etc

I personally will judge the success of this route based on the CAA stats and of course as you mention the load factors, however, after a few consecutive months of success. Why do I say this? The company that I work for were probably one of the biggest users of BHD ORK & ORK BHD with Aer Arann and since Manx2 have used the service alot less.

The reasons being that firstly on a Metroliner for the distance it is too cramped and anyone who is remotely uncomfortable flying doesnt like the confined space and this heightens their fears. Secondly, we did day trip to ORK on the metroliner out on 0750 and back up on on 1740 or should I say were meant to be on 1740 except that the flight was cancelled.

The aircraft arrived 1hr 15 mins late and when onboard (evening) pilot who was doing the pre departure announcement advised that they had technical problems with plane. (The same plane EC-GPS).

After sitting for almost 25mins watching the pilots trying to get the engines going (by this stage we all were most adament that we wanted to get off) we were told that we must go to the terminal and wait until it is sorted. When we got to the terminal we were advised that the flight was cancelled until the next morning. The next morning the LET410 did not arrive until10am which was due to leave at 0920. We missed our meeting in Belfast that was scheduled for 0930 that was a follow on from the previous days meetings in Cork. We had no change of clothes as we didnt expect to stay over night etc etc.

The running joke was in the office among the guys who flew the service before was that the 'spitfire' broke down and we missed our meeting.

We drive now. Sad for Manx2. But I think they are a good little company otherwise and do fill a niche, but they need to look at the aircraft being used. Let410 in my view alot more suitable than Metroliner, due to sense of space inside, although I feel that they need to aspire to having something like SF3 or Atr42 or even a Shorts 360 (one of my old favourites).

On a separate note, we boarded that morning at 0730 to fly to Cork and the same pilots arrived back in Cork that night at 7pm so if the aircraft had taken off it would have arrived BHD around 820 so the pilots would have been on duty since at least 7am, for those in the know is this acceptable (maybe they had most of the day off?) or perhaps they are working under Spain's rules on flying hours which I am unsure of.

Press releases

I'm always sceptical about upbeat press releases stating that a route is doing fantastic. Some years ago we had regular stories about
how well Jet Magic were doing. Then we read that the Cork New York Charters were

doing exceedingly well. Then suddenly the flights were pulled.

Ryan2000,

It was expected to but i think this is now highley unlikely as GLA-SNN is now operated by an ORK a/c but it could well return as JER will be operating and is yet to be popped into the EI system. I hate they way airlines operate these days like why make a fool out of kevin on 96fm when they new (99% likely) it wouldnt return!!

Well, as for Cardiff, there is a story about that Manx showed an interest in trying ORK-CWL once RE/EI pulled off the route but that they were somehow refused. That is the story, anyway. Baffling, if true.

Hmm!

I think we will know more about if Manx2 will take up the ORK route in Decemeber when the 4 year VLY contract is up for grabs. If they take it there will be a greater chance of them operating CWL-ORK.

CWL-VLY-CWL-ORK-CWL-VLY-CWL-VLY-CWL-ORK would be ideal.

Aer Lingus have cut flights to Alicante and Nice for next summer.

Both will only operate 2 weekly. Both were 3 weekly.

EI changes

So the extensive changes to Cork's time table was all about avoiding using a Dublin based plane on SNN CDG. Time will tell if going head to head with Ryanair on Shannon Paris justifies reducing frequency on the high yielding Cork Nice and Cork Alicante routes.

I look at it like this; "loan" the aircraft and crew to SNN three days a week helps keep four aircraft and crew at ORK. Keeps the guys and gals on the hill in jobs and this can only be a good thing. I know DUB/SNN crews fairly regularly operate out of ORK, so this may be a way of rotating SNN crews more efficiently onto ORK routes.

Who knows maybe one day we could "borrow" an A330 from SNN

EI A330 scheduled for Cork ha ha

That'll be the day Brian.

Incidentally the turning circle at Cork was widened some years ago. Does Aerlingus still have the ban on 330's using Cork ? Not a problem for Monarch, Air Luxor, My travel among others. A very senior Aerlingus captain now retired told me he couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. Sounds like a minor adjustment is needed if any. Could the Cork Airport Authority look into this as you never know when it might be needed? Maybe a Munster Rugby charter. It'd be a lot cheaper than positioning an aircraft from the UK or the Continent.

It was said tongue in cheek, tbh. Although it would be great to see, I don't think now is the time. We would be lucky to see a 757 service to Majorca these days, let alone NY or Boston!

That said I dont think the 757 has been seen that often in Cork? Much more 737/A320 with a few A321 thrown in, IIRC.

Ryan2000: and mytravel, air Luxor (both defunct) and Monarch all operate regular A330 flights?

Would not be a problem for the odd time, however regular operation would have a depreciative effect. Also only taxyway A is suitable for an A330, meaning a backtrack is required for 35. Yes the note still appears on the flightplans saying A330 banned. Perhaps I'll ask someday soon what the motivation is...

Corks famous turning circle and the A330.

Thanks five juilliet. Aerlingus did operate on s small number of flights from Cork in the early 90's before the ban was imposed. It's obviously just a small problem that needs to be put right. Might be in Cork'ms interest as there's probably more of them likely to end up
on the Charter scene in the years ahead. Presumably Aerlingus are not the only airline that have will make an issue out of Cork's turnng circle. To be fair it's shape is more like a hammer head than a turning circle as a result of another penny pinching excercise by Aer Rianta in the late 1980's.
