Well said dublinaviator..there's nothing stopping Aer Arann leasing a new a/c to put on these routes.
Maybe Cityjet could be enticed to Cork. They operate the Fokker 50 and Dornier 328 turboprobs in addition to their Avro jets.

Route closures and diplomacy.
Ever notice that when an airline close a route they often use shortage of aircraft as a diplomatic excuse. eg CSA and Malev needed the ORK plane for extra sectors to Moscow as if closing the ORk route was the only option, There is nothing stopping RE from using an ATR 72 on ORK DUB if they wanted to. In fact the pressure from Ryanair has eased considerably in recent times so why close the route?

An ATR 72 could not be used as they haven't got any to use on the route.
1 ATR 72 based in Waterford Airport
1 ATR 72 based in Isle of Man Airport
1 ATR 72 based in Galway Airport but it could be 2 I'm not sure.
The rest operating for EI regional.

Point taken Jamie but it's the airline that allocates aircraft to bases and routes. They then come across all apologetic as if a route closure is due to circumstances beyond their control. It's seems to be standard practice in the industry. Of course others such as Ryanair tend to blame airport charges and tourist taxes when ever a route isn't working.

Aer Arann remains committed to Cork Airport and just three weeks ago announced additional Aer Lingus Regional flights, operated by Aer Arann, from Cork to Manchester and Birmingham. This development will mean that the airline will base a second 72-seat ATR-72 aircraft in Cork from the start of the winter schedule at the end of October.
The above was taken fro the Arann website.
It appears as if they were just sending the oldest of their fleet back to the Leasor, to be replaced with a new 72. No conspiracy there me thinks

From what i hear there are no more 72's on the cards until summer 2011. The second 72 for Cork is being pulled from Dublin.

Yes one ATR 72 is being pulled from EI Dublin Base. The a/c is being pulled as flights to Doncaster-Sheffield & Durham Tees Valley will end on Oct 30 and the DUB - Cardiff route will be reduced to 2 daily (currently 3 daily). for winter.

Aer Lingus Regional
Aer Lingus Regional (Aer Arann) have reportedly not renewed their contract with Servisair. Apparantly Aer Lingus will handle them at Cork going forward. Previously Aer Lingus handled the front of house functions such as check in etc. while Servisair handled the back of house functions such as baggage handling and the ramp.
Big blow for Servisair Cork given that Aer Arann will also no longer be operating any services under the mainline brand from the end of the month.

Servisair and Cork
They'll still have Ryanair and what's left of the overseas airlines. Maybe they should handle adhoc cargo flights.
It's strange that we've had almost none at Cork since Aerlingus stopped handling other airlines some years ago. I wonder why? Are they being directed elsewhere?

Changes to the winter schedule
There have been changes to the winter schedule; I received an email about a change to a reservation on BCN-ORK, it is now back to the evening time of the last few years, although still Tu-Th-Sa. I haven't looked for changes to other destinations.

Unhappy landings.

Madam – I am an American staying in Ireland for three months this summer. We have flown from Cork to London, Paris and Lisbon. At the other three airports we exited through air bridges. Each had advertisements on the outside and inside of the air bridges to help pay for their cost. In Cork, no matter rain, gloom, or sun, you must walk down the stairs carrying your wheelie bag, cross the tarmac, then carry your bag back up two flights of stairs. Doesn’t anyone care about the elderly? Is this a third-world country?
A new terminal was built, but the airlines using it dictate policy. Ireland needs to do smart things to get the tourist dollar back. One act would be the Cork Airport Authority operating the Cork terminal using the air bridges like a first-world country. – Yours, etc,

What's with the Alitalia flight from/to Rome currently showing on the Arricals and Departures board?
I assume it's some form of charter? What for?
Maybe someone could try to persuade them to keep returning for the Winter when there will be no service on the route!

On the winter Ryanair schedules, there is again a good connection from Charleroi Brussels South to Cork via Dublin in the morning, and back in the evening. (It was not possible this summer, when there was only one daily flight CRL-DUB).

Wrt the American's letter to the IT, he is 100% correct. €220m and it's a scandal that people have to climb stairs in this day and age. At the very least there should be escalators.

Does any airlines in ORK use airbridges.
RYR, W6 EI Regional, EI all don't. Do charter airlines use them?? I was very suprised to hear EI didn't. People expect RYR and W6 as they are low cost carriers and Aer Lingus regional as the a/x are to small.
