Pareng Machten,
In my personal viewpoint, they did not look at you as a Filipino, as far as they are concern they hired an FAA bearing license and a US citizen Pilot.
But there is really no argument whether this is true or not, the thing is We are still proud of you for making into that place dahil pinoy ka.
All the Best!

I heard that Group 1 (for non PALers, group 1 is wide body Capt) get around P120,000 basic pay, and if you fly 60hrs you will get P130,000. Rates are net of tax. Im not group 1, so can anybody verify this? Are you crying or laughing?

Smiling
I guess with a basic pay of 40k + prod of 35k smiling is appropriate (US$1500) 30%tax.
Wadya think of CX SO pay? US$4130 basic + $400 accomodation + other benefits with 16% tax.
FO widebody basic pay is US$8240/month + $6400 accom allowance/month.
http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=249148
Tell me... is it 3X more expensive to live in HK considering they have half the tax rate and give you a generous housing allowance?

Let me explain, I know of 6 people here from Australia who applied with CX.
Two are holders of Australian passports, the other 4 although permanent residents are still holders of other passports ( Philippine, Jordanian, Korean and Tunisian ). All went to the same school, same training, 2 of them have more hours than the Aussie passport holders, the Jordanian is an F/O on the Fokker. Guess which ones got hired ?..... You guessed right, the Australian passport holders.
But having said that, it doesn't mean that they have preferences for white skin. Remember this, in any job, you might have all the qualifications in the world but IF YOU DON'T SUIT THEIR PROFILE they won't hire you.
The Aussie citizens will be based here and for operational purposes they will have less problems coming into the country and no chance that their citizenship will be revoked unlike a permanent resident that if he or she doesn't meet the required time in Australia, it can be cancelled.
So, they based this on operational matters ( such as citizenship)and not by race. If they think they have a use for you (by being a citizen of a particular country) then of course the gate is wider but it doesn't mean the gate is shut if you are not a citizen of a developed country.
So keep trying...... I just had an email from CX asking for an update.
Just remember one thing, if you do go take your family with you otherwise forget it.
Loneliness will be your greatest enemy in a foreign land. They are not the same as the good traits of Filipinos. In this land, it's either you sink or swim. "Bahala ka sa buhay mo - walang tutulong sa iyo"....... But i guess some if not most of us are already used to this treatment.
Goodluck mates
Cheers

got the productivity increase
sorry for the confusion on the posting of the productivity pay. ofcourse it had to come out. i'd imagine a lot of crew may start moving out of the company starting next year if they didn't get that increase. there was some talk lately that the company had announced the plan to lease/buy 777s with the first one to be delivered 2008.had they delayed the increase to next year that would have further cut the crew list they could put into the 777s.
last october i put in 90+ hours.for it i have total prod pay of 110k. flew with one capt and i dont remember how much he flew then but it might have been low. he got 160k.thats net of taxes.

I guess the consensus is - it helps to be licensed and hold a passport other than what is issued in the Phils to get a CX interview. Maybe the background check is another big thing because I do know for sure CX does a very thorough check on all candidates. So mga tol, what do you say we put a lid on this CX discussion and get back to what our brothes in PAL are up to.

Hey bansai!
No, I don't think it's a ploy. It's been leaked at airliners.net and flightglobal.com. Management has also confirmed it but has asked Boeing not to release the orders just yet in public.
2 777s from GE Leasing and 2 from Boeing plus 2 more options. To arrive in 2008 and 2009 respectively. May fly to Vancouver then San Diego or Seattle. Or to Mel-Sydney and some other regional routes that have a heavier load than the 330s can take like Japan and Korea.

It all boils down to management
Is it because they dont have JA, JH and the gang to run their airlines? PAL can definitely give a competitive package, they just chose not to. Remember, it cheaper to train pilots?

So, to them, it's cheaper to train (new) pilots than give them a decent pay rise ?........... they sure are fostering loyalty with this thinking ( not ! )
So why do they even care if pilots resign and go to other airlines ? --- don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question.
A friend of mine said they gave him a hard time when he turned in his resignation.
On one hand they go ballistics if they loose pilots but on the other hand they hold off on pay. Looks like a one-way traffic to me.

let me tell you what kalbo did to one of my friends who resigned.
when he was applying outside, he gave the kalbos fax number by mistake. thinking that it was his departments fax number. kalbo went balistic when the prospective new empoyer faxed him asking for a recommendation letter. he had my friend go to his office and told him "you resign first, then i MIGHT give you a letter". my friend gave a resignation letter then asked for his recommendation letter. then kalbo said "remember, i told you i MIGHT give you. so i wont give you a recommendation". good thing he still got accepted and is now working happily with his new airline
the common notion now is that you resign the proper way, you get harassed, you just leave without any proper adivisory, you get harrased, you submit you resignation by mail, you still get harassed. so, do you think it is worth it if you try to exert some efforts to do it the proper way? the end result is the same.
they want loyalty without questioning and without asking any kind of compensation. kalbo feels like working for him is an honorable thing to do.
what a way to treat people.

No missed-approach procedure for this one.

They have to realise that not everyone will stay. NO ONE WORKS IF NOT FOR THE MONEY. Being in your loved career is just a bonus.

i agree that he should have been very careful and discreet in doing things, but he was soooo pi$$ed off at the management that he wasnt thinking clearly. its more of an emotional thing for him. he wasnt happy long before he left.
they think that way because they are protecting their retirement. if they lose too much pilots, the aircrafts will be grounded, then it will be a problem. to solve this, they must give a better package. but in doing so, it will cost the company a lot of money, again they will look bad. they might retire being line pilots, not at their present posts that they are willing to trade the whole world for.
another point to look at, the retirement age is now extended to 65yrs old. that gives them additional 5 years on their posts, 5 more years of slavery for the pilots.

I cant believe it! 5 more years of JA & JH! My God! (atleast JDC is out). This 2 must have done a good job in the eyes of LT to have 5 more years in the job. Hey JH & JA dont be too sure on your boss. At age 64, he'll come up with someting to terminate your services thus forfeiting your beefy retirements. That's savings again for PAL, maybe something like P40million+ between the 2 of you. Your retirement down the drain just like what he did with the others in 98.
I've heard so many horror stories about resigning from PAL. Like the pilot who went to complain to DOLE, only to be told by his friend (working in DOLE) that its going to be of no use filing a complaint because LT has the main man already. So the advice of his friend from DOLE: go AWOL! This pilot just wasted a few months of his earnings going to the proper channels. He just gave PAL time to **** him up. And what a **** he got! No salary, no flights, no ID, no acceptance letter, no letter of recommendation, no nothing! So a word of advice to those resigning, dont go through the proper channel. Its the same result anyway. Just tell PAL: Talk to my lawyer!

Looks like whoever resigns from PAL is facing a dilemma and will have to fight an uphill battle if they want their entitlements.
Just make sure you already have the job before you resign.
