everyone here is envious and happy at the same time. You have scored the dream job. I am sorry to say to those that thought it couldn't be done because of the color of your skin... please think again and apply.... PLEASE go to the website! You have nothing to lose by applying and hopefully we will see more Pinoy Pilots in CX. Just to give you an idea of the pay for an SO.... The accomodation allowance is about US$2500 a month and around $3500 basic. The accomodation allowance for FO is HK$50k around US$6400 + the basic and other benefits. Yes this is not a typo... they get what they are worth... How much do PAL SOs get??? US$1500 a month...
There is a rumour that they will hire over 300 pilots over the next year or so. So get to it.

Hi, Machten! Just a follow-up question - Does CX offer education subsidy for children? Nothing in their website showing this. EK, on the other hand, offers complete benefits, and this portion of the package is one of the biggest deciding points. Thanks!

Maraming salamat guys! Feeling ko, sinuwerte talaga ako. Parang nanalo sa sweepstakes. They told me to expect a start date around last quarter of next year. So, like I said, to those who are interested - APPLY NA! Somebody here said they will be hiring close to 300 pilots and that's what I've been told also.

Bansai-
I don't know which equipment I will be assigned to but I do know that it's either gonna be the 744 or A343/346 since I'm joining as a DESO (I'm not typed on either). So, to answer your question, I think a type rating is preferred but not required.

Expatula-
They do offer education allowance. I don't have the details with me but I will dig it out and PM it to you.

Congrats Machten. Just a question, where are you based at the moment? Kasi, you said "walang nagaaply na pinoy sa CX". Asawa ko 14 years na sa cx,(as f.a.) may dalawa pang piloto sa nililiparan ko ngayon, pare-parehong kapitan din..asawa taga cx din...pitong taon na kami nagaaply, puro "thank you for your correspondence" lang ang napala namin. yeah, everyone got the "please update your cv" email last week, but c'mon..let's stop pulling people's legs.

Not to rain on everyone's parade...but unless you are a US/Canadian/Australian/British/NZ citizen/resident...you might as well spend your time lining up sa lotto baka better pa chances nyo.

Galing ano?

Anyways, good luck to you and sana dumami kayo sa cx!

Well, Machten in all fairness is a Filipino by blood( im guessing), but im sure you can see that his location is in the States of A. This might help you solve the puzzle.

I hope CX will hire Philippine Passport holders.

The real story!!

The real story is:

If you don't apply... you will never know!! Ah.... ignorance is bliss.... ain't it? I'm so tired of saying this over and over again. YOU CAN DO IT.. often better than others.
Why are people so cynical of their own talents and abilities? Do people really look in the mirror every morning and say i'm not as good as a white man? I don't have the same opportunities as a white man! So I should just live in my own self pity and stay in the same sh.. hole of a situation which is my life. I work for PAL or CP and that is the best it will ever be for me!! Machten made it into CX coz he has a blue passport!!! Wha wha wha
Why accept seconds when taking the initiative to be first only requires you to believe that YOU CAN! That goes for everything in your life. Your family.. your kids and even working for LT.
If I thought during my first solo that I couldn't do it... I probably wouldn't have. So if I keep on thinking that CX won't hire me coz I'm a brown monkey they probably won't!

Who is better?

why do Filipino pilots always think that the other race are better than us? they are only better if we alloe them to be. we wouldn't know unless we try. why always look on the negative side? there is no harm in trying. the worst that can happen is a hurt ego.

keep on looking and try, dont let rumors discourage you.

What's with CX anyway?I think most of the Major Airlines gives the same package or almost the same or better than with CX....except with PAL and CEBPAC of course!!!
Im sure with one thing that differs and that is the BASING for their pilots, and this scheme works very well to our American, Canadian, European and Australian(passport holder) counterparts. This wouldnt work for a Philippine based pilot, bec their Main base will then be HKG.
Not knowing about this scheme or on how they do it, but for sure CX saves some money sending their BOYS and GIRLS home on their daysoff.
Your Entry is only either a First Officer on the Freighter fleet or a Second Officer on the 744 or 340s... not that good entrance for a 30issh or 40issh years old pilot having to wait for another 7 to 10 years to Command. Its fine with the 23 to 25 yr old pilots, young and willing to wait. And if this guys are only flying Cessna SE or KING AIR, definitely, CX is a giant step for A Mankind.
No offense with our Kabayan "Machten" He did well, i intend to address this message to our fellow pinoy pilots having the thought that CX is being discriminate. Lets just put it this way, most probably CX doesnt see any benefit in the Flt Ops having to maintain Pinoy pilots with Phil passport in HKG.( they dont need SOs on a HKG-MNL-HKG flt.... neither a Freighter FO on the 744 as i dont recall seeing a CX cargo plane in NAIA or Clark....have you? and if there is, doesn't it seem expensive for CX paying you with too much for doing nothing but a MNL-HKG-MNL.Just an example.)

We dont have to question our capacities as pilots, because we have long proven that we can survive in this Multi cultural/nationalities kind of environment. To name a few companies who hired Filipinos holding Phil passports; Air Macau, EVA,KAL,ASIANA,SQ, SQ CARGO,AIR HKG,MAS,VIETNAM AIR, AIR DECCAN, SRI LANKAN, AIR ARABIA,EMIRATES, ETIHAD, GULF AIR, QATAR, SAUDIA.. and if there is anything i missed, im sorry.(intentionally omitted ANA - US and Australian citizen yung 2 piloto doon)
The Point is, there is a lot of Option if you're still planning to work as an expat. So, now tell me....What's with CX?

is it just another land to discover and conquer???

Hi Expatula,

does it mean you're the first brown and the only brown in your present outfit? I know one airline with only one FILIPINO at present. You're ex-cebu?

Alright mga bossing, let me get this straight.

I am 100% pure Pinoy born and raised in the Phils. Pareng Cessna, I think I pm'd you that I hold both Filipino and US passports. I did my training in the states and currently employed with a regional airline dito din sa states. So pareng Thrust Clb, to answer your question, yes I'm based in the states. Now, whether or not that has any bearing on my application with CX, I do not know. I'm just trying to imply that some guys here earlier said that to forget CX if you have brown skin. Well, obviously that is a load of crap. I asked a guy from recruitment during my interview whether and if there are any Filipinos in CX. He said except for Air HK, no. I asked why and he basically said nobody really applies and when they do get one, they are so few and in between. So, there you go. To people like Thrust Clb who did apply and get no more than a sniff is truly disappointing. At the same time, I put the application in - got the call - went through the process - and got hired. Now, how they select the few who gets the nod is something the recruiters can only answer. But to say that their hiring practices is racially biased is wrong.

So, did CX really hire a Pinoy? Kayo na bahala...

Hi machten,
thanks for the paglilinaw, i don't wanna say on the forum that you've PM me about your dual passport because others will certainly think about its significance in terms of hiring requirements, but since you said it, its now more formal. I did mention that you did well haven't I? and that for me is commendation for your excellence. And i can't say enough.

But lets accept the fact that this dual citizenship of yours might hold some points as well.

They gave me a different reason why they don't hire Phillipine based pilots when I went for my interview in HKG. They told me that it's hard to do a background check for Phillipine based pilots.
