The typical salary is probably somewhere around £35k with the big integrated schools paying into the 40's. The lowest salary I've personally heard on offer this year is £26k.

Correct, it doesn't need to be back to the same aerodrome. Your flight from Stapleford to Prestwick via Gamston will do it, the return leg doesn't come into it.

There is no legal requirement to have passed Air Law before first solo. It's a PPL Urban Myth. However most clubs do seem to impose this rule which is probably quite sensible.
