becoming an instructor

Hello all

A quick question aplogies if it has already been covered.

Can someone get an instructor rating without a CPL or the CPL ground exams, ie could I instruct on just a PPL and an instructor rating? presumably if one can you are not allowed to paid is that correct?

I would love to make a career of being an instructor and am just trying to find out more about it.

Many Thanks in advance

To instruct on a PPL you would have atleast had to have passd the CPL ground exams. On adding the FI rating to your ppl you could then work but not be paid.

As you mention you would like to make a career out of instruction, I would recomend you sit the ATPL gound exams and complete a CPL, then you can be paid once you have the FI rating on your licence.

As far as I know, the only instructors who don't need a CPL are microlight instructors (good old CAA, thank you ).

The downside for many is that the hours don't count towards your 'real aeroplane' hours and are useless if you are hour-building towards an airline career (sorry, wrong thread).

Great fun though, and just about possible to earn a humble crust.
