When I look at that downed Russian helicopter I look at the near intact port engine and think ooooohh spares for the previously downed one that suffered damage to the port engine, thus possibly allowing….cough, cough..…. the US to put it back into the air for evaluation

Their whole adverts start off with not getting paid at work, being made redundant etc, so not the brightest to continue working for them when they do not pay you.

Maybe, but the AP has this story with today's (or maybe yesterday's) date on it https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world...re/ar-AA15yCwB
So I'm not sure whether or not this is a new incident ... but fingers crossed
MOSCOW (AP) — A fire broke out onboard Russia’s sole aircraft carrier on Thursday, Russian state media reported.
The Admiral Kuznetsov, a flagship of the Russian Navy, suffered a “minor” fire while undergoing repair work at a shipyard in the Arctic port of Murmansk, according to reports by the Russian state Tass and RIA Novosti news agencies. Both cited Aleksey Rakhmanov, head of the state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) which is overseeing a major refit of the carrier, as saying that the blaze was quickly extinguished and caused no casualties.
Delays and accidents have marred the Admiral Kuznetsov’s ongoing overhaul, which began in 2017 and was initially set to conclude last year. At least one person was killed and 12 others were injured after a fire broke out in December 2019. The previous year, a crane crashed onto its deck after a floating dock holding it began to sink, causing unspecified damage.
Rakhmanov told Russian media in June that he expected the Admiral Kuznetsov to return to service in early 2024, almost three years behind schedule.

No 'maybe' about it.
The story may be current, but illustrating it with a certified 3 year old photo is not exactly promoting acccuracy nor instilling any confidence in the report attached to it, especially in this particuar context where it is particularly hard to distinguish propaganda and fakery from reality...

German intelligence officer arrested on suspicion of spying for Putin
A member of Germany’s foreign intelligence service has been arrested on “strong” suspicion of passing secrets of state to Russia.
If the officer, a German citizen identified only as Carsten L, is found to have been spying for Moscow he would be the first double agent to have been exposed in the agency for eight years.
He is being investigated for suspected treason, which can be punished with sentences of anything from one year to life in prison. The case has been described as potentially being one of the most serious of its kind in the modern history of the German intelligence apparatus.
The suspect was arrested in Berlin yesterday and taken into investigative custody while police searched his apartment, the Federal Intelligence Service’s (BND) offices in Berlin and Pullach, near Munich, and the home of one other person.
He stands accused of handing intelligence to the Russians earlier this year, although there were suggestions in the German press that he might have been turned against his native country earlier than that. Olaf Scholz, the chancellor, was informed about the suspicions a few weeks ago, Der Spiegel reported.
The investigation is being led by the attorney general, Germany’s most senior prosecutor, who typically handles sensitive cases affecting national security.
Bruno Kahl, the head of the BND, said he could not disclose any specific details about the alleged double agent because Russia might use them “with the intention of harming Germany”.
“With Russia as an opponent we are dealing with an actor whose ruthlessness and readiness to use violence are things we have to contend with,” Kahl said…..

It feels like fast rewind for 40 years.
More like winding back over 80 years, I fear. The level of propaganda, population control and attempted justification of genocide by Putin has more in common with the Nazi regime, I fear. Stalin was certainly and evil bastard, but most of his evil was focussed on fellow Russians, and he made little attempt to justify his aims in the way that Putin is trying to do.

Putting this here as it may be of interest to some. This is the third in a series of interviews with a British volunteer in the Ukrainian foreign brigades. I've found the whole series a fascinating, good-natured, down to earth and eye-opening first-hand account of the war. In this part he talks about the experience of being constantly shelled. Clearly he has a mix of courage, humour and a stoic acceptance of fate that seems necessary to function under such conditions. I was particularly interested to hear him recommend cigarettes as a way to offset the stress - you can worry about dieing from cancer once the wars over. I remember my grandfather telling me this about his experience of WW2, and he was indeed lucky enough to survive from D-Day through to the end of the war and go on to have a happy, healthy family and a peaceful life, before dieing in fairly advanced years from smoking-related illness. Puts it all in perspective.
