Sounds like a miserable existance - especially if you get the A320 fleet (perhaps not as bad on the 777 or A330/340). Nobody wants to be that tired/stress out all of the time. What is the annual attrition rate (%) at QR? How long is the training bond for?

skya320 30th Apr 2010 08:22

Training bond usually 3 or 4 years depend on when you join the company. Policy keept changing (Change everytime there is a shift in management)

loc22550 1st May 2010 08:39

bond: new joiners F/O non rated:something like..3 years /50.000U$
S/O :..5 years/50.000U$...
For your upgrade the Bond is..back on track(after being cancelled for a while..):2 years/30.000U$.

HR

Hi guys, Anyone kind enough to give me the HR address there in Doha. I have searched the forum and the website and can't find it anywhere. (Emailed application 6 weeks ago and just want to be sure they received it)

Cheers

widebody300er 6th May 2010 15:58

Also, I think new VISA regulations came into play on 1st May

They did not come into play...they are on hold...

Housing

Hi, joining on mid of May, I"ll be looking for a place to stay, what are the options? is it better take QR accommodation or outside?
cheers,

Baron buzz 7th May 2010 10:47

MAHABATEN,

If your joining as an FO then you will not get the choice - it will be company accommodation.

sandpit66 8th May 2010 10:46

Hiya M!

What fleet are you joining in May, whats your experience?

190.20 9th May 2010 20:08

Hello!

Just one quick question......is it worth it? as F/O is it worth the experience, money, TR and the whole thing?

190@20 :ok:

violet08 10th May 2010 09:53

I'll field this one

In answer to "190.2"
QA is truly an "experience". Pay for an FO is good, work rules/schedules can be challenging. Forget about commuting or even taking a mini-holiday on your days off. If you have a flying job, with some level of security; I would not recommend leaving. But, should you find yourself pounding the pavements, in desperate need of work, (i.e. can't pay the bills, feed the kids, etc.), QA is a fine place to work.

loc22550 10th May 2010 11:58

190.20.
It ALL depends of you actual situation and what do you want:
-Family &kids(2..3...+) here in Doha: forget about saving money as F/O
(and keep finger crossed hoping your family will "survive" here)
-No Kids or Single: fine you will save some money.
I focus on saving money(because "money is good" doesn't mean anything for me, you have to look at the Big picture!).. indeed if you plan to stay here for a long time Don't forget one think:there is NO pension plan here,so be "careful".

-Experience: good.(you will fly to good and sh.t destinations).
-As mentioned already: the airline is secured but the job Isn't(depending on the "mood of the day" of the little big man..:bored:).

widebody300er 11th May 2010 00:10

What part of it do you not understand? If you know anything at all about this industry you wouldn't be asking this question... common sense:ugh:

190.20 11th May 2010 16:31

Thanks for your help!

Acoording to my situation I would apply to QA for reasons like:
1. money
2. world class airline
3. flying some big guns

I'm young and single, just want some piece of that cake! So I was just wondering if it was worth leaving my current job flying embraer 190 (which is not bad)

190@20 :ok:

1. money
2. world class airline
3. flying some big guns
1 = OK the money is not to bad, but then again it depends on where your coming from. At least it's consistently on time.

2 = World Class Airline from a passenger stand point, Yes I do agree.. other than that.. I have been much better treated in lesser class airlines.

3 = flying big guns ?? other than western educated people most will not know what the h3ll your on about.. you want to fly fighter jets ??
I learned one thing for sure.. bigger is not better (with regards to airliners). It would be so nice to have a narrow body job in a good country with decent pay.. but then again, there is probably a million other people in that queue already. This widebody, Ultra Long Haul flying is not allot of fun.

in QR it seems to be that if you do any stupid/unconsciuos/human mistake you may end up being kicked out
Not to far from the truth (in some cases)... The B777 fleet has not really seen that light of day yet.. but it's coming.. dont be fooled, just look around at the other fleets and consider it lucky that it has not yet consumed this fleet .... ye

Does anybody have information if Qatar is hiring DEC at the moment? Have all the requirements, send several mails plus application via post but no response at all.So just wonder if this is normal,it just takes time due to the possible high number of applications or they have no interest and it is a silent NO.:bored:

Utah 12th May 2010 15:38

Gyday guys

I'm a Second Officer with Qantas, applied to Qatar on Jan 10 2010 both via email & post. Havnt heard anything from them since. Have all the magic numbers, over 6000 total time, 1000 on A330 blah balh blah, still heard nothing. Any idea if there is a way to even find out if they got the applications as all attempts to contact them result in no response one way or another.

I hear a rumour a few airlines in Euro collapsed recently & they've been getting guys from there but would at least be nice to know they have recieved the application. Any ideas?

Oh & before anyone asks I dont intend on leaving Qantas & am not crazy, just looking for an opportunity to experience some great flying all over the world with all different crews from different cultures while the window is still open to do so.

Cheers for any help guys much appreciated.

Can someone post a duty plan for 320.----please.:ok:

Iver 14th May 2010 16:45

Hey Utah,

Looking for a walkabout opportunity? There are plenty of people on this ME forum who would love to swap with you. Plenty of Aussies who constantly complain about the "horrible" conditions in the ME and the tyrannical managements. I suggest you find (very easy to find) these individuals and ask them why they are so very negative on QR, EK and EY and then reconsider. Take some time and review the many posts about life in the ME before you make a jump.

You should consider yourself lucky to be flying for a major airline like QF. You can live in a democracy, fly nice equipment and live among beautiful people. Just think about how difficult it might be to return once you realise the ME is not the place for you. I doubt QF would welcome you back...
