10500 TT, 8000 PIC,3200 PIC CRJ200/700/900 TRI/TRE 37 yrs old! Im curious where I fit into the pool of Pilots. I want to try Qatar, Emirates and Ethiad. I also have US and Irish citizenship. Very curious if I fit in because I have no Airbus or Boeing time!

sia sniffer 7th Apr 2010 01:51

The Ads say $9500/70 block hours. Whats a norman roster block hours, and may I dare ask if there is OT above 70 hours?
What is the actual basic salary, and presumably the overnight allowances are industry std?

What % is gratuity and is it payable after 3 5 or more years?

I hear F/Os dont get upgraded as there seems to be a que of rated guys willing to sign up?

As far as I know, if you have a western caucasian wife, she will be stared at all the whole time, visually r@ped every time she leaves the compound.

Kpt crunch care to comment?

loc22550 7th Apr 2010 03:45

Sia Sniffer:

1 U$=3.65 QR
-Basic CPT 26500 QR (3% increase the first five year...than ...NO increase!)

-For the rest it depends of your fleet:I can only speak fo the 320 :Flight time: ..65... hours/month (duty..120..130H sometime:uhoh:).
Flight allowance 120QR/Scheduled block time.(Not the Duty)-(A-320 fleet is a well underpaid fleet regarding the duty performed!)

Meal allowance on A-320 : again.. not very high expecially if you don't have flight to europe.(the case for most of us) ..500...1500 QR/month!).

-Yes a "Normaly" dressed wife will be visually harassed by all those "desperated" single male here(Mainly indian-pakistani-egyptian-Qatari...).The ratio Male/female in this country is about 4/1!!

-Gratuity: 3 weeks of you last Basic salary per year of service. It Becomes 4 weeks after 5 years of service.(thats probably why they want to keep the basic as low as possible.)
-No pension-No Bonus.

Jimbo124 7th Apr 2010 17:57

Thanks for the reply to that loc. I am going on the 777 soon and was told the hourly block pay was 90QR /hr, has this gone up. Also do you know roughly what is the take home pay on that fleet?

Is there any qatar airways clubs societies for socials?

Capt Krunch 7th Apr 2010 18:35

Jimbo124

F/O's flight pay is 90.QR and the Capt is 120.QR

Jimbo124 7th Apr 2010 19:06

Thanks for that Krunch, I now realise that I should read the whole message!!! Just for clarity do you know what the sort of take home pay on the 777 is for FO's I know you are LHS but thought you may know?

Are there any sports or social clubs active within the airline, I am joining in the next month.

Also, so you happen to know if all training is taking place in Doha as I have heard rumours that the FFS is being farmed out to various other sites.

Many thanks and probably meet you in a crew room soon!

lol.. I dont mean to laugh, but you must realize your not joining a flying club, this is NOT that kind of airline. You come here to work and not socialize is the motto.

happen to know if all training is taking place in Doha
they will try very hard for your training to be in Doha, due to the expansion on the B777 fleet, the 1 Sim in Doha is full to capacity with new hire and recurrent. if this is the case at the time then they will send you to either SIN, DXB, CAI or anywhere else they feel in order to get the training done.

lol... social QA social clubs.. lol. (it's called An Khalid Compound) that is a funny one..:)

Isnt Qatar what Dubai was 10-20 yrs ago?

If you buy a flat with your housing allowance, should get good appreciation, until the next bust..Try that in UK or Australia. Works in SQ, most guys who left there are cash rich and dont want to work too hard.

Management must be lauging with the influx of newbies, green and willing to live in a muslim state that activly supports media that gives favouable coverage to Al Qaeda & the rest.

What people will sink to to keep up in the sky in a shiney new western built jet.

Are they still hiring experienced captains in Qatar Airlines ?

Jimbo, i have a friend who only recently joined and he already has a small nice group of friends to relax with/socialise/sports etc.

Like anywhere, if you find yourself friendless whilst others are knocking about and making the best of things, there is only one person to blame!

Royalblue 14th Apr 2010 21:53

Any insiders know if they will actualy consider u for hire after u failed your first interview or its just a typical reapply? My year is coming up so I am planning to redo it. Are they still doing the test 13,14???

shneidertrophy 16th Apr 2010 19:21

SIA sniffer,

you seem to have the correct attitude to survive here.....for exactly 3 months!

Do your homework correctly mate, before you come here to stirr up the troops!
:ugh:

loc22550 19th Apr 2010 13:21

I have recently noted that Q.R. has (Re)introduced Captain Upgrade Bond ..again..(2 years-30.000U$)...after it was cancelled for a while...
Does it mean that a lot of guys took their upgrade and than left...?

Farrell 19th Apr 2010 14:27

And as if it wasn't difficult enough to get through the system..... you now have to apply for a visa before you visit Qatar.....sigh!

"British and American citizens will be among the nationals of 33 countries that will have to apply for a visa prior to arrival in Qatar, according to new rules being enacted by the emirate from May 1.

The regulations also mean that all passengers wishing to travel to Qatar for business purposes will need to have their visas arranged by a local sponsor, via the Ministry of Interior.

British nationals wishing to apply for a Qatari visa will need to provide their last three months’ bank statements, which must show the name and address of the applicant, and prove that there is at least $1,300 in the applicant’s account.
"

loc22550 19th Apr 2010 15:10

Wait wait farrell....they might cancel this new procedure....:}
Nothing is official yet..!!

Farrell 19th Apr 2010 16:09

Apparently they just cancelled it now having realised the impact it had this morning on their embassies.

Just another dumb sheikh churning out orders and no middle management to either analyze the request or, indeed, put a stop to it!

Qatar....... awesome!

kotakota 19th Apr 2010 16:20

Oi , Farrell , that remark about middle management sounds familiar !!
well done for putting a stop to the Qatar visa nonsense ................

BIGBAD 19th Apr 2010 19:12

From Qatari Embassy London

1st of May visa's regulations will remain unchanged until further notice.

An official source at the Consular Affairs Department of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained in response to an inquiry
from Qatar News Agency about what was reported in the local
media of the intention of the State of Qatar to implement the
reciprocity principle in the granting of national of a number of
countries a visa to enter the country at the borders outlets. He
said that the ministry received notes from number of these
countries asking for more time to apply the reciprocity principle
and the ministry now is studying the content of such notes. The
official asserted that the system will remain unchanged.

The official added "Qatar will continue implementing the
content of the bilateral agreements concluded with other
countries with regards to the reciprocal exemption of entry
visas"
Does this mean the change will remain unchanged or that the change will be changed back to the way it was before ???

No matter what anyone says to you about Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar etc they are still governed under the same law. Yes, Dubai you can pick up a beer in most places, but you'll still be banged up for kissing someone on the lips in public.

Financially, you will be far better off in Qatar as your digs will be paid for, including all bills (trust me, you'll die seeing what some people are paying to run their air conditioning, water etc out in this part of the world). Lets not go into too much detail. However, (maybe to be proven wrong in the next few months) rumour has it quite a substantial pay rise (10-20%) on the way. This should take the average FO pay well into 5k without any worry for bills etc.

Flying wise I believe Qatar wins hands down. Firstly, if you've been offered wide body experience, Id jump at the chance. The 330 really is the beach fleet here! Also, I see you're from the UK. I believe the 777 will start eating into most of the UK routes (as it is now) but you're open to a few nights back home. Your flight allowances will be pretty good also. The 320 fleet in Etihad only has a small handful of decent destinations.

I would say that Etihad, based in Abu D/ Dubai area will give you more freedom in terms of having a beer.
