Emirates Telephone Interviews

Hi There, I am hoping somone may be able to give me a few pointers regarding Emirates telephone interviews.

I have applied for a cabin crew recruiter position at Emirates. They contacted me twice, once sending me all the details of the job, salary and benefits. They asked if I agree with everything to forward my resume, as if I am selected for the shortlist, I will contacted to set up a telephone interview.

I have been selected for the telephone interview and they will be calling me on Saturday. I will tentatively be invited to Dubai for all remaining interviews if I pass the telephone interview.

Has anyone ever had a telephone interview with Emirates and what questions should I be prepared for? I do have recruiting experience, and understand that the questions are most likely generic however, I do understand that Emirates is quite different from other airlines regarding their interview technique. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure most of us have only been to the CC interviews, so can't really give you any advice on the phone interview.

But I can give you one piece of advice.

If you do get the job, next time your in Sydney, keep your eyes open for a lovely guy, with extensive customer service experience with a warm and vibrant personality. He's been to 5 open days without any luck,
and the poor boy "just wants to fly"!

SkySista - aka the EK cabin crew recruitment teams boomerang. Get the message they aren't interested, no matter how many times you pitch up.

Oh by the way, your details of the Trident crash at Staines in 1972 and the communication between CC and the flight crew is way off. Tridents didn't have cockpit voice recorders fitted and sadly everyone perished in the incident, so where did you get the reference for the Captain telling the S/O to 'put it in'. Who would know? Recommend you do more research before pontificating on stuff you know little about.

Not-so-Jolly-Foreigner thanks for that insightful piece of advice - if you really are an ATPL holder, as your profile states, then surely more than anyone you are aware of processes involved in getting into airlines - especially as F/D crew - often it can take multiple applications before you are even noticed. This may not be for any reason other than lady luck... In all seriousness, perhaps you are able offer some genuine advice to those applicants who have as yet been unable to get into EK?

SkySista you keep it up babe, persistence is the key! And the day you graduate from your EK Cabin Crew ground school, I look forward to reading your response to above post

Jolly Foreigner - Very smart ... By your standards we should all then just quit trying...

I admire SkySita for her persistance....I don't know her, but a person who has so much determination to work for a company like she does... is really a valuable asset to any airline...believe me

Keep it up SkySista...you have my full support as well. Keep pursuing your dreams....THEY WILL COME TRUE, no matter what anyone says.

and P.s. - keep writing all those posts....They contribute a lot!

I think there are enough off topic posts to start a new one,
im leaning towards calling it "The OFFICIAL I hate SkySista" thread. whaddya think? :P

Skysista, your gorgeous, and i dont even know what you look like. i cant stress it enough, you seriously rock. keep doing your thing girl

as for anyone thinking (read: telling others) that if you dont get in the first time, you dont have a chance in hell, your an idiot. I know of one gentleman, who finally made it on his fifth attempt! thats right number 5. It turned out that even the recruiter had multiple failures, im not sure how many, but for some reason seven springs to mind. (she spoke with a lovely proper accent and her name started with a D....)

even if i give up on the idea of flying for a living, i'll probably still go to the EK open days. its an AWESOME place to meet pretty girls, and they are almost all really friendly! though sadly, the quality is much higher in perth than it is in here in sydney

jolly, i had a reply for you before i sat down, but its late and i cant be bothered. she might of read it in a book, not her fault, blame the book. with any luck you'll be sucked out of the cockpit and then the plane is able to make a miraculous safe landing with no one else hurt.

I gather you gain joy Jolly Foreigner by people getting their back up over your comments, so I feel that I shouldn't bother retorting to your nasty swipe. So instead my post is for SkySista: I'd just like to echo what the others are saying on this forum about how awesome you are. I always have a smile when I see a post of yours. You helped me greatly when I was changing airlines and I and many others are inspired by your dedication. Keep it up, JF can go

I hope flyblue removes nasty posts like that, it's not in keeping with us giving each other helpful and encouraging advice.

WA xo

Jolly Foreigner, (don't seem so jolly to me; an attempt at irony, perhaps???)

I'm sorry - this is a prime case of what I was talking about re: miscommunication! (Read it and learn, guys!! )

I have obviously ommited 'supposedly' from before 'the Captain said'.... voila, we have misunderstanding and disagreement!!!

and yes, as Cannard says, on thinking about it I do fuzzily recall that piece of info did come from a book... and probably an older one at that... so what.... it was a theory at the time, as they had been trying to figure out why on earth such a thing would be done at that stage in flight...

JF, as for my continuing to try for EK... what business is it of yours whether I keep trying or not? I'm not hurting anyone and I'm not going to let some person on an internet forum tell me I'm not good enough! Until the day a recruiter gives me a printed letter saying I do not meet EK criteria then I will damn well keep trying!!

Imagine if the guy that climbed Everest gave up on the first try... or people going into space... or Robert Ballard trying to find the Titanic.... none of this would have happened. Same goes for people like Craic1510 - she had 5 or more tries and eventually got in. If she had stopped after attempt #3 because someone like you told her to then she would not have got in!!!

I really wish this thread would not be a slanging match, people want to get some advice and help on applying for Emirates - let's keep it on topic and agree to disagree - I've managed to sway the opinion of more than one dissenter when they've taken the time to actually get the real story from me and not go by just what's written here.... they know who they are!!!

Sinala, Luksy, Cannard & WA - thank you for your supprt guys, you're all fab and I love reading here to see how you are all doing.

Cannard, yes the recruiter you are thinking of is the one I mentioned earlier, and I'm pretty sure it was 8 not 7!!! (Even more amazing then!!!) as for meeting chicks at open days.... hahahaha!!!! Only you.... only you....!!! (Just remember it'll only be good as long as other guys don't figure out the secret....lol....)

Welcome Aboard, thanks so much, I'm happy to know I managed to help even in some small way... hope things are going fab for you, and again thanks for all YOUR help!!!

Hope all here have a fab weekend, and as my nephew's favourite fish says: "Just keep swimming!!!"

What kind of medical related sicknesses, diseases, etc will disqualify you? I know that you can't have HIV.

Hi everybody!!!
I passed all the way trough the finals, and I am just wondering if it is rarely or not that they will answer me with a "no" after all... I mean, my open day lasted three days, and we were not may left.. they said they woulc contact me in 6 weeks (more or less) and now I am just really scared that they would say NO... Once you get to the finals and get to have that ever-lasting interview is very hard to think that they are going to reject you, you know... so my question is if it is common they do that. It would be fantastic if you could help me with this..
Good luck to all;
Jani

Jani - just want to say congratulations to you! That's awesome work!

I have just had three friends leave for Dubai to start their EK life. They obviously all got through and were told yes (almost two month later I believe!) ... I feel that if you have got this far ... you are most likely in. Providing all the info you have given checks out etc. I wish you all the luck in the world ... and once again congratulations on getting so far - that really is awesome!

SkySista ... I just wanted to say, please don't ever give up on your dreams! I am fairly new here, but I have read many of your posts and from what I can tell you are an intelligent beautiful person with a kind heart and a wealth of knowledge.

I also wanted to let you know that one of my best friends (as mentioned earlier) recently left for Dubai to begin his EK career. He tried five times (yes, 5) and upon his last attempt he was selected! Now, said friend is amazing! I personally could not see why he did not get past the group interviews the first four times. He's drop dead gorgeous, has a killer smile, amazing CV, fabulous photos, years of experience as CSM and FA and is possibly the sweetest person you could ever meet. He firmly believes that it just took him that long to get noticed, at least by the 4th and 5th time the recruiters recognise you and you have the advantage of not being "just another face".

So hun, reach for the stars! Can't wait to see you flying the friendly skies with EK!

help!! PLEASE!!!

Hello everybody1

Thank God I came across with this site!

There will be an open day in Buenos Aires, Argentina (Where i live) this saturday 11th.

I've read all the posts of this thread, i've been in front of the computer for 5 hours! im blind!

I really need your help, what kind of questions have u all done after seeing the video? Can anyone provide examples?
I've gathered information about the airline and from this site, but I would like to know (in case u were to an open day) what were the best questions that people asked.

Thanks a lot!

Jani, forstly, congrats on doing so well in your interviews. As you can see by all the posts here, that is quite an achievement! So be proud of that for starters.

Now in my opinion (note this is only my opinion) you have a good chance here; they would not have you go so far if they couldn't see your potential and good points. However, I will not lie/paint a rosy picture and say 'it will all be fine', just so you are not disappointed if in the TINY chance it does not go well... I have heard of some who progressed to finals only to be told no - however this was more due to having too many at the end and not enough places... or smal things they told to work on (just generally as we know they do not give specific feedback) and to try again - voila they get in next time around.

So please do not set yourself up to think there is a 100% chance... although having said that, I think your chances are very very good!! Hopefully this is not coming across nasty or anything, I just hope people are realistic, and see there is a slim tiny microscopic chance even at this stage... ok....? But, I am sure you will be fine, just be prepared for the worst, that way when the best happens your surprise will be even better!!! And thanks also for your kind wishes, I send mine to you also for the best of luck and the reply you are waiting for!!!

KiwiGal, thank you so much for your kind words. I really do enjoy reading here to see how everyone is going in progressing to their dreams - whether that be Ek or another airline. It's people like your friend who convinced me not to give up after the first go. There seems to be a growing list of people like him now who have had to try many times!! Just a thought: perhaps the recruiters may have thought 'he looks like a guy who finds it easy to get what he wants... maybe we should make him work for it"... a terrible generalisation I know, but perhaps the reasonging behind their earlier rejections?? EK recruitment work in mysterious ways!!!

BYMON.... who? Wha-? Huh? I think that is THE shortest post I have ever seen from you!!!

FAinbaires, ha I felt like that when i stumbled on this thread about EK... and it was MUCH shorter then!!!

Good luck with you applications, I'll try to come back here when I get a little more tiem and think about the questions that people asked...!

Thanks!

Thanks a lot SkySista!!!!!!!

I was actually desperate, it took me a while to come across with this site and then this thread! And the interview is on saturday.

And im actually really nervous cause this is the first time that i try out for an airline! Good for me that people can never tell when im nervous.

I wonder if ill get the same interviews that you all did. And I dont know if many people will show up, since it's Argentina!!!

see? I tend to ramble when im nervous or exciteD!

So, anyone please if you have any questions that I could make during the open day (after the video), let me know!!!

FAinbaires.
I have noticed that (in my mere two open days experience) questions after the video dont really do anything for or against you. there are so many poeple at the start and its basically setup so you can decide if you actually want to do what the job entails, like cleaning a toilet every 10 minutes, or whatever the required time is (if im wrong, so what, i dont care). I guess if you asked some super amazing question or some terrible one it might effect the outcome, but then again, it might not. the real fun starts at the group interview. Sydney is on the same day as yours, give or take a few hours with timezones. good luck!!!

Janibabyes,
I dont want to be there bearer of bad news, but its still a very real possibility that you can get your thanks but no thanks letter 6 weeks after the final interview! I got one (though given my interview performance, i deserved it :P ) and a friend of mine got one a week before me. ummm just try to take your mind off it? I mean its prolly only the most life altering event in your life. so just take up a hobby? learn how to knit in 6 weeks? dont be disapointed if you get a bad letter, at least the open day was kind of fun, and you should of made some lovely friends ( or something like that ) and you can always go back again (and again...and again...and again...)

looks like this one :P

i got it a year ago, so it looks a bit tattered. but the reason why i really kept it was the loving "this is a generated response please do not reply"at the bottom, I got an email that said the exact same thing!
makes it a lot more heartfelt, its like they really care :P

FAinbaires,

If you watch the video, a lot of information is given there. I guess if there's something you want to know that the video didn't answer, then ask. Just be aware, when you actually go to ask the question, some people (like me!) can suddenly get very nervous... it's a good idea to think about what/how you will say it before you open your mouth... just to come across a bit more confident, you know??

I vaguely recall my question being something about how Ramadan affects inflight service, re: alcohol being served... and how they deal with that.
(I did notice on subsequent open days/interviews, that this quesion always got asked after the recruiter said 'good question'.

At a later date, I asked a question about whether EK hire female pilots (not very relevant but something I always wanted to know!!!)

(Hmmm..... maybe that's what got me booted out that time!!! )

Cannard!!!!

good to see you're still around!!!

you can always go back again (and again...and again...and again...)
Did someone call me???
