I know this is very low level stuff for this place, but does LTN have the worst airport Wi-Fi in the world? It’s not just been a recent thing… it’s never actually been any good. You literally can’t connect to anything.

(maybe it’s me)

Wifi at LTN is variable. Sometimes works really well... other times it's impossible to get an IP address assigned. It seems better if you are at least 50 metres away from crowds of other people who are surfing - I'm guessing the network has a limit to how many phones can go on the wifi in a given area

Flew out through Luton Tuesday and I concur. wiFi was terrible and as for mobile data? One of our devices worked fine the other no signal despite being on the same network...
..and dont get me started on Bag Drop, one off the worse BD experience EVER ..also I know Security screening have a very serious job to do, but please at least look happy....

Makes me wonder if this is an effort by Union to grab as much as it can before forecast inflation drops so their biggest yardstick disappears
So what is wrong with that?

It is relevant though "A relatively dormant company (first incorporated in January 2023) suddenly appointed directors and a company secretary as well as changing its address to offices near Luton Airport. Nothing too unusual, but this company is called Monarch Airlines Limited."

easyJet to Cairo Sphinx

Hot on the heels of Wizz Air, easyJet have launched LTN to Cairo Sphinx SPX. Flights start day after Wizz Air, 31st October. 3 times/wk service, again matching Wizz...

LTN-Cairo

Its like buses, they all come along at once.

So my prediction is, Wizz will mysteriously move the route to Gatwick in the next few weeks before it launches to avoid the direct competition with easyJet.

easyJet will probably do pretty well on the route, and once they become established in about 6-12 months they will move the route to Gatwick with higher frequencies and also cash in with higher yields from the South London airport.

I wonder when Ryanair will be joining the party with 3x daily frequency?!

It might be the case the Egyptian government is offering some very good incentives to serve Cairo from unserved airports that currently don't have a connection to the cities airport?

London - Tel Aviv has about 10 flights per day, with each of Easyjet and Wizzair being almost double daily - ie 4 flights each way each day on LCCs. Egypt and the Pyramids are one of the oldest tourist destinations in the world... even the Romans would make the (longer, slower and much more dangerous) journey to see the Pyramids. Once London and south east England realises they can go see the Pyramids over a long weekend without paying a fortune... demand will rise significantly. I really wouldn't worry about 6 LCC flights per week being oversupply of capacity

TUI used to do very well from Luton to SSH & HRG. No reason why both airlines can't exist from Luton. If Luton had available slots then Egyptair / Air Cairo could even join the party. They have used Luton for Cargo before.
There are a few more Egyptian airports which could take a 2-3 week service as well. ALY, ASW, LXR & RMF.

I had the joy of flying out from Luton a week or so ago and once through security was guided through Duty Free, I was amazed that the first ' stall ' one comes to is a wall of packs off 200 cigarettes... Thinking this was a one off we flew back from Barcelona..and the first stall was a even BIGGER wall off said cancer inducing products....
I know that the Government make a wedge of money from Smoking and they pay a hefty wedge paying for treatment for suffers...
The point is that in your local supermarket the smokes are behind closed doors to not attract youngsters, but not at Airports?!

I haven't notice that, will have to check next time I go through. I thought all the tobacco products were in a special "back room" type area.

On a separate topic, there was a new 'building control' application added last week to the council's website titled "Extension of existing first floor slab and associated infrastructure works at pier B". Anyone know what this is about?

Cigarettes in UK airports are to be behind screened off areas, showing no branding. As a regular through LTN, i dont recall noticing a "wall" of cigarettes. Why you saw them visible as you passed through, i can only imagine that they were moving the area around and was a temporary move.

If people want to purchase cigarettes they will, they are hardly an impulse buy. Afterall no ones forcing anyone to purchase them. If anything, the government makes more money from the potential illness they may cause over tax they make from them... but thats another story altogether. Big pharmas paradise...

We're there no plans submitted for this?

I also note Wizzair are restarting SJJ at end of September, was this always a Winter only shedule?

The extension to Pier B I know about is at it's mouth, the yellow part in the middle here.

As LTNman says, Do you have a link back to the planning Portal?
