Tridents at BHD
In the early 1980's I can remember leaving Newtownabbey Court House close to Abbey Centre after covering a case there for the local newspaper. There was a roar, I looked across the Lough and saw a BA Trident going up like a rocket from BHD. I think firemen were on strike at BFS at the time. Tridents could certainly climb and the sensation of being pushed back in your seat at take off was very noticeable.

That was never my experience. I was always taught that they became airborne because of the curvature of the earth

The Irish A320 that operated was a Christmas in the early 90s possibly 1993 cause I seem to remember we were in the old control tower & it was operated by Transaer/Translift!!! It just took the ground staff 2 hrs to turn the thing around!!

BA B757 on the LHR Shuttle service operated into BHD due to a snap strike at BFS (firemen I think I recall) on a couple of occassions. Logan air operated a Busybee F27 on lease (maybe awaiting delivery of ATP) and Hotair (which was linked to British Air Ferries) subleased various Viscounts to Manx, mainly to operate BHD to Man. British Air Ferries also leased a Viscount to Virgin to operate Dublin - LTN with plans for further expansion that never came off. Occassionally maintenance requirements meant the Virgin painted BAF Viscount was replaced at Dub by another of the fleet and then the Virgin one ended up on a Manx flight or two.
Air UK operated F27's into BFS for years on the LBA route - I flew on 3 different ones. G DASI (which I also flew on from Edin to LBA with Air UK) may have operated near the end of the service.

Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland need ther own airline. every country in the U.K now owns an airline apart from us.... Suppose you would have to have someone pretty well off to start it.
Also heard that Wales new airline will start flights from BHD to CWL

Why does Northern Ireland need its own airline?
What airline does Scotland own?
What airline does Wales own?
What airline does England own?

Well every proper state/country has an official airline and I suppose that it would be good if northern Ireland had a carrier. However, pretty much any routes worth anything have been covered and I suppose that technically, you could consider Aer Lingus as an unofficial carrier of Northern Ireland. But providing there are connections to a bigger hub, which both Belfast airports have, there isn't the demand going for a viable operation to start.

I suppose back in the day with national flag carriers, British Airways represented the whole of the UK as the national carrier, however as they concentrate on being London centric this may be less applicable now. As always this could also be up for debate being Northern Ireland.
Many, many airlines have their base or head office in England, Scotland has Loganair off the top of my head, ROI has Aer Lingus, Ryanair to name just two; but Wales?? No sizable commercial carrier springs to mind??

Yep, ceased operation in 2006. I flew with them once from Dublin to Swansea airport (before they moved to Cardiff), the pilot took the cases off and handed them direct to the passangers waiting on the tarmac. Was a bit of joke really. They moved from Swansea because the CAA demanded an upgrade to the airfield lighting which was going to cost a fortune. IIRC Air Wales had some sort of partnership with BMI baby.
