But the post was about the countries OWNING an airline. Scotland does not own Loganair. Ireland via the government does own 25% of Aer Lingus. The Country of Wales does NOT OWN Air Wales. England does NOt own BA since it was privatised in the 1980's so the often used term "flag carrier" is wrong. Guernsey does of course own Aurigney.
If you actually mean the main carrier in a country then Easyjet for Northern Ireland, maybe Ryanair for the UK and Ireland and Easyjet also for Wales.

Air Wales
After they split from baby they started an srevice from BHD
It went well exsept that it was rarely on time and pax numbers were low
But at least they gave out free pens
I belive the aircraft they used was lost recently in south america.

easyJet are defiantly not the main carrier for Wales. Need to start a route out of Wales before they can take that title... However they most likely fly a lot of Welsh people from Bristol.

Anyone got a copy of the Daily Mirror and can confirm an article linking BA with position at SIB as was stated on this site a month ago. I havent got a copy and cant find anything on their website.

Just read the article stating that BA has been offered the job at SIB and is currently negotiating the package. Old news. This will however be a difficult one even for the eternal optimists at BHD to put a positive spin on.

The only airline that I can remember which has operated here with a local name on the livery was Air Belfast (AB airlines), I think the same company had Air Bristol as well.

Aaron you come across as a 13 year old kid.
There is NO need for an airline to be the "national" carrier of a six county country(not making a political point just stating the size).
We have enough difficulty supporting the carriers presently operating.

Having just read the accounts filed for BCA for 2009 I think Ryanair may have left because the airport couldn't afford to keep them any longer. Passengers increased by 2%, one of the few airports to see an increase while pre tax profits fell by 68%, to £430K. This years could be even more interesting.

Do these figures take into account exceptional expenses, the amount of money BHD may have spent over the past year re-configurating the terminal??

i just thought it would be good if an airline started from here.

Aer Lingus and Ryanair are Irish. BFS and BHD are in the UK and many UK airlines have bases or operate from BFS/BHD -Easyjet and Flybe are the largest but Jet2 and bmi also have bases and Tomson and Thomas Cooke plus Loganair operate into BHD/BFS (and I think Aer Lingus got a UK operating certificate when it moved to BFS). I have not mentioned Manx2 as the status of the island is a bit hazy)

Anyone got update on how talks are progressing for a new operator to come into BHD for the STN route that Ryanair are leaving at the end of the month?
It's looking increasingly likely that the closer we get to 31st Oct without an announcement the more likely that there isn't going to be someone taking over the route.
If easyjet can't be persuaded to take it over and commit more aircraft to BHD, I wonder how longer their Luton route will last before moving back up to BFS?

The Luton-Belfast City route is doing rather well I hear with a third rotation being introduced at the beginning of the winter timetable. Cannot seeing it going back to Aldergrove in the near future.
