Summer 2011 EZY flights also loaded from BHD. X3 on weekdays, X1 Saturday and X2 Sunday.

For July and August weekday rotations drop to X2, and then return to X3 at the start of September again.

this is purely a rumour, just like Ryanair management moving to BFS, no such decisions have been made yet, but who knows. The rumour about Ryanair staying at BHD is believed to be partly to stop anyone else moving in on the routes, and also to see if the runway ever does get extended.. but like i said, who knows

RYR would want subsidised for moving up the road. Given that if they did, Easyjet would probably move a significant part of their operation to BHD the net gain for BFS would be negative. There are still people up there in management who will not entertain the idea of the letting RYR in. Quite right too. The place is in a big enough mess with O'Leary getting involved.

Lifting of the passenger cap discussed today...

BBC News - Belfast City airport passenger cap discussed

The Environment Committee will hear from residents' groups and airport officials. No more than two million seats can be sold from the airport in a year. In June, the environment minister launched a consultation on the effect of removing the limit on passenger numbers.

With Ryanair withdrawing services at end of Oct, BHD reaching it's passenger cap will be less of an issue as they are probably going to lose 500,000 + passengers a year.

Flybe taking on Liverpool, East Midlands & Bristol they will be do so operating much smaller aircraft (Q400) compared to RYR (738) so BHD they will be doing well to pick up 300,000 of the 800,000 RYR pax.

The remainer will probably be taken up by EZY and BMI baby at BFS.

Poots urged to delay airport move

Poots urged to delay airport move - Northern Ireland, Local & National - Belfasttelegraph.co.uk

A decision on scrapping a cap on passenger numbers at Belfast City Airport should wait until a public inquiry on its controversial runway extension is completed, a Stormont committee has urged the Environment Minister.
In the summer, Mr Poots said he was inclined to ditch the cap - which equates to four million seats for sale

The minister could still decide to grant the increase in seats for sale, otherwise this is another serious blow for BHD. Adding this to the issues to be considered at the PI will make the PI an even more difficult process, if indeed the correct information to allow a PI to go ahead is ever provided. Questionable if FR do go at the end of this month if any of these changes are required, except to facilitate a sale! No doubt however, the media rep, millie vanilli, who seems to have trained under Mohammed Al Sahaf, will report that refusing to hold a PI, FR going, and Stormont deferring the seats for sale decison are the best things that ever happened and the future is looking very bright indeed, double bodies, national carriers, blah blah. Anyone seen the 'For Sale' sign.

The minister could still decide to grant the increase in seats for sale,
On what grounds?
1. the environment committee came to a 'common sense' opinion, why wouldn't they place it in with the PI.
2. If EZY don't expand and if FR do leave next weekend, then there is no need for the cap to be lifted.
3. The planners have to answer:-

'one of the most senior officials in the DOE’s Planning Service this morning admitted to the Northern Ireland Assembly’s Environment Committee that the agency was not enforcing two key conditions of the planning agreement between the airport and the DOE, an agreement which is meant to protect local residents from undue aircraft noise pollution. Tom Clarke, Director of Strategic Planning at the agency, conceded that the Planning Service:
  • Was taking no action despite knowing that the airport has breached a limit of 2,000,000 on the number of seats for offered for sale which effectively restricts the number of larger, noisier aircraft which can be operated from the airport [ he admitted this limit was breached in the twelve months to end of July 2010]
  • Was taking no action on the fact that hundreds of flights have landed at and departed from the airport after the ‘curfew’ time of 9.30pm in the last 19 months alone [637 flights from January 2009 to July 2010 inclusive, according to Planning Service figs supplied to BCAW] – despite the fact late flights are only supposed to happen in “exceptional circumstances”
  • Did not know what precise impact the Environment Minister’s proposed removal of the seats for sale limit might have on the mix and types of aircraft operating at the airport '

Is it likely that FR may eat a small slice of Mr Kipplings excedingly good humble pie and stay?? That would be a first for the Mullingar Farmer!!!

Really? Is he going to stay after all that??

Gate 22 - need to get back up onto my soapbox.

'Common Sense' - from any of our politicians - you must be joking!

Hmmm - 'seats for sale' limit - only one at any airport in the world which was dreamt up by planners to limit expansion in an unsuitable old terminal with unsuitable road junctions. A terminal abandoned 10 years ago and demolished 2 years ago.

When the limit was requested to be removed several years ago during the EiP process the goalposts were moved to require the install of a secondary radar and noise and track monitoring equipment. Now that thats installed the goalposts have moved again.

The limit has nothing to do with the runway extension and predates it by at least 11 years - the fact that the limit has been breached without an extension only proves this.

Planning Service arent enforcing anything because 'they' have been the ones deliberating for years on this issue. As for the late flights, less than 1% of flights after 9:30 isnt bad and zero after the 'curfew' of 11:59 is pretty good too.

Cannot understand in the current economic climate how any politicians can actively restrict commercial growth and private sector investment.

Like or loath Michael O'Leary (I'm firmly on the fence) jobs will be lost for local people when Ryanir pull out.

I heard that the Queen arrived in BHD yesterday, did she avail of FR's STN flights? or did she arrive in on her own private flight? Basically what did she fly in on? and as she is departing today did it park overnight?
