BBC NEWS | Northern Ireland | Airline dropping Barcelona route
Indeed it is true-with a hint of an overall increase in capacity. 50 extra jobs at BFS must be more routes on the way.

Jet 2
Newquay is twice weekly W/Su with the aircraft being used in a W pattern with BFS based aircraft. Dubrovnik is on Sat.
It would appear from a quick look that 2 BFS based aircraft required on W,F,S,S with one on all other days, thus if 2 based all week, plenty of options available for extra routes, which LS have confirmed will be announced soon. At the moment there would appear to be 5 LS aircraft arriving in between 14.20 and 15.10 on a Saturday afternoon.

George Best Belfast City Airport
Red arrows at Shorts this Saturday. What a regal Saturday for Belfast as the QE2 is due to dock at around 13.30 (I think) pity its to piss all day (apparently).

Belfast BFS to London today...
I flew EZY this morning BFS to LGW there was only 53 passengers on the flight, with 103 empty seats. I was returning on the 1715 LGW BFS flight which was full, but half of the passengers were delayed from the 1230 cancelled flight. The flight at 0630 and 9am tomorrow are similar.
Aer Lingus did not have an early morning LHR BFS today either, so that would suggest that last nights last BFS LHR flight never went???
Jet2's 757 left for Barcelona this morning and it was nearly empty.
I cant help but say that the feeling I had today is that it is going to be a long hard winter.
(and before I get the feedback that loads dont matter it's yield, dont bother, as I know!!! Just stating how things were today.)
On a lighter note the addition of Dubrovnik, Newquay and Jersey next year and the reintroduction of Blackpool, aswell as other routes will be a good boost to the map!

I was checking bfs - Prague this evening. It seems that Easy are coming off this route on 11 Jan 09. They came on to it against jet2 to drive them off and now they leave it as well. Now we will have no service to prague. I hope Bfs take note of this, they should not allow multiple airlines on routes that are not able to support a large amount of capacity.
Regarding the new routes from jet 2 today. At times I wonder about the decision making process. Why not try Turkey, 5/6 flights a week to both Dalaman and Bodrum large numbers of locals own property out there now? What about Sofia, also lots of owners and now a very popular ski destination? bet it would have supported at least 1 flight a week.

EI-BUD, jet2 757 left empty to Leeds this morning, BCN was a 737....Dubrovnik is supposed to be operated by a 733, not sure but I imagine its tight for a 2nd generation 737? Maybe the rumors about LS getting NG's is true Any one hear any more on LS operating falcon's winter flights?
Jet2 Sharm el sheikh or Larnaca would also be popular I imagine?

If jet2 were to operate flights next summer to Turkey, Cyprus or Sharm el Sheikh they would need to base a 757 at BFS. From my understanding the 757 will leave bfs at the end of Oct08 and will not be returning next year. The max range for the 733 from bfs would be about 3hrs from bfs.
If its true easyjet that have left the prg route, then a wounder would jet2 consider reintroducing the route again from bfs?? More new route still to be announce from bfs for next year, so watch this space!!

Am i right in thinking that EZY are leaving a number of routes this winter. I have been checking Berlin, Prague, Venice and Krakow and got no flights in February. Is this right or did I get the easy website on a bad day?

I had noticed the disappearing flights from BFS over the winter but presumed aircraft being grounded when demend was very very low. Noticed reduction in Krakow from 4 to 1 a week, but didn't realise it was the pulling of entire destinations (except for Venice and Berlin which are pulled for the winter at least). Hopefully the flights pulled will be over the few months with lowest demand and start up again come the spring.
Poland is a real shock, with 4 destinations last year, and now possibly none!!!

The intl services that have gone this year were covered in the Irish News today.
"International services to be axed this year from Northern Ireland are: Paris (flybe); Geneva and Budapest (Aer Lingus); Barcelona (jet2.com); Katowice, Warsaw (Wizzair); Gdansk, Venice, Berlin, Prague (all easyJet)."
If you add Zoom flights to Vancouver and Toronto, that makes 12 services gone since the start of the year.
Berlin and Venice go at the end of October and Prague at the end of Feb. Krakow is still bookable twice a week through to the end of the winter schedule in March.
Apparently, the numbers travelling from eastern Europe to work in NI have plummeted in recent months while anyone from NI who wanted to see Prague has been there and done that.

Falcon Winter 08/09
Falcon/First Choice winter programme from Belfast, whether from the credit crunch, or demise of FUA, appear to have been reduced considerably. Tenerife November flights combined on the TCX Friday flight, with Las Palmas and Arrecife pulled completely for November and December, restarting January with airline still to be comfirmed.

Prague/BFS, I thought that this route would have been very popular, and I think it is just a grounding of aircraft over a quiet period due to the 'credit crunch'. I checked NCL/Prague a route operated by EZY and found that the flights stopped early January, so its not just Belfast. Also the routes lost in that newspaper article, most of them are either temporary or because of duplication.

Belfast - Bodrum S09
I have been checking flights to Bodrum for S09. First Choice/Thomson had flights on sale, but now they aren't available, as far as I can see.Bodrum is no longer on the drop down menu from Belfast, Dalaman is. Thomas Cook are not showing any either. Goldtrail is only showing flights from 29 June 09(?). Can anybody tell me if there is going to be a serious drop in flights to Bodrum next summer or is it the case that all 3 operators have not yet finalised their programme for next summer? It would seem strange if all 3 were still deciding what to offer.
Any info would be appreciated as we have a property out there and the issue of direct flights is important to us and a lot of other people.
Thanks

True Blue.
Just went onto falconholidays.co.uk and they appear to still be selling packages to Aegean Coast with flights into Bodrum. Checked dates for 10 May 2008, so hopefully will also be season long. Flight is Sunday afternoon, with Thomsonfly (or Thomson Airlines??). Didn't check flight only but appears they're still operating flights to Bodrum.
Checked Thomas Cook and they too appear to have Bodrum flights on sale also, Monday evenings with TCX.
